What a day!

Today has been so full of blessings, I can’t begin to tell you how lovely it has been.

Firstly the weather has been stunning, like a warm summers day.

This morning we were busy working outside, removing a tree, when a parcel arrived from Brian in Bristol, full of lovely young plants. So they have been planted..well, most of them have been, still 2 to decide on a location for.

As we sat enjoying a cuppa in the warm sunshine, a second parcel arrived from Vicky at Plantagogo with four lovely lime green Heucheras in it for my shady back decking. I’ve got them all potted up and in situ.

Then, while I was busy planting up Brian’s plants, a dear friend arrived with 2Kilos of Sloes for me that she picked in Cumbria yesterday!! (We don’t get many Sloes up here). Isn’t that just so brilliant? Now I need to get on with making my Sloe Gin, which I’ve never done before.

Then yet another parcel delivery, this time my new Kitchen Blind, which OH and Cal have put up for me. So we won’t be staring out at blackness in the Kitchen over the winter.

Then, when I was sorting out and moving a few things around outside, yet another parcel came, this time from Sarah Raven, full of spring bulbs! I am going to have one busy day planting all the bulbs I’ve collected lately. I’ve already planted a whole load of crocus and dwarf narcissi. But I picked up a bag of mixed daffs from Dobbies this week for renewing my clubcard and I already had a host of Tulips to plant…so there’s lots of work to do.

Anyway, I don’t like a blog without photos, so here’s a couple of shots of the garden without the very sad Rowan Tree. I’ve put a strong stump killing weedkiller on the remnants of it, and planted Annie’s Hebe at that end to give it some evergreen interest and height. Looks much better without the tree! :)))

Isn't it great when that happens Karen ! I bet it felt like your birthday ! I'm going to have to wait for everything to die back as I have no room for the bulbs yet. The garden is looking lovely.

Sorry I dont do photographs Karen. Cant put up with anymore technology. Enjoy water colour painting. Its
possible to construct a picture using items that cannot be found when taking photographs, or add in the sunshine
on a gloomy winter's day.

What a lovely day you had Karen, and plenty of nice things to do ,to make it an enjoyable day..or two ! :o)
We have been so lucky here too, with the weather..the odd shower or two but mainly warm sunshine the past two afternoons, and no gale force wind either.so I got lots done too..my kind of 'work' Lol.
Housework should only be allowed on bad days, although I did wash all the windows inside before I hit the great outdoors :o)..

Karen sounded like one of those red letter days where all is right with the world.
I love the second photo where you can just see the Pod in the distance (the new balanced beautifully with the old).
Just wish it would stop raining here I was wishing for it last friday when we put down the new lawn but it hasn`t stopped since ... quite torrential at times, so all my bulbs are still waiting to be planted.

It seems like our autumns are turning stormer doesn't it. It's a lovely morning here, so we're off to the beach with the dogs, then to the quarry for some grit to dig in to my clay. If I don't get something done about the drainage in the raised borders I won't be able to plant any bulbs in there...and I have a lot of bulbs to plant! Thanks for you comment about the pod. One of these days I will sit in it!

looking good and lots to look forward to in spring too. lots of parcels yesterday at our house but all things for OH garage domain :o(
I keep dropping hints about how I'd love some surprise parcels for me [nice ones not just cleaner for the upvc windows as the last one was:o(]

I've possibly missed an earlier post but what was wrong with the Rowan tree? I love having one in the garden and always think it has magical qualities.

(Good job my Other Half is the practical one!)

Hi Eirlys....I'm not entirely sure what was wrong with it. They are one of my favourite trees too. It was struggling....came in to leaf, and flowered a bit, then all the leaves started withering and the flowers came to naught. Then after some watering it picked up and produced new leaves and flowers...which also withered and came to naught. One thing Rowan trees don't seem to like is bad drainage, and this area of the garden is very poorly drained. I fear it was just too stressed to thrive. It was sending up loads of suckers out of desperation I think. I am planning on adding a Sorbus 'Joseph Rock' at some point, as I love the golden berries. Hopefully get some sort of a Rowan again soon! In my last garden I grew S. hupehensis 'Pagoda' which I loved, but it is quite a large var. I think I shall have a more compact var. next time.

Well, what a wonderful day that was Karen! Since our return from a week in Devon it has been wet and windy most of the time. I have cut down the Sunflowers, many Cosmos and staked up some tall plants. Leaves are falling off the Grapevine. Just wish we had a longer Summer! :o)

They pass by faster when they're good ones Shirley!

And when you're older , Karen .
It seems to me that this year has sped past ...... mid-October already !

15 Oct, 2014

So true Karen! Sunshine today, which makes a lovely change from the rain of late. :o)

17 Oct, 2014
