Calpod day!

Today is a day we won’t forget, because our Son (Callum) came home from the USA AND we had our new summerhouse/garden pod built! The landscapers were busy too, but more of that later…..

First thing this morning I set out for Edinburgh Airport to bring Callum home from his 5 weeks in the Rocky Mountains near Denver, Colorado. He is extremely tired and full of the cold, but the plane landed on time…hurray!

Here’s a few pics of the pod development, and installation and our first family meal together in over a month :))

Foundations laid…

Landscaping finished….

The Pod…

Testing it out….

And laying out the plants for some hard work this weekend…

It rained very heavily after dinner and Rachel and I had to do a dash for the house in the end. But what a day to remember! :))

Very nice,Futuristic looks as though it may have landed from Space. you should be well protected from wind and rain, is there a heater in there? Christmas dinner would go down a treat surrounded by snow, I can picture it now.lol

Hi Kath, fantastic, { I want one!!!!! } doubt if I could find room for it though, beats a canvas gazebo any day, Derek.

Cheer up gang - or is it that mums cooking isn't up to scratch. lol. It will be nice to sit out in the evenings and look out over those fields. Are those blinds at the top and do they pull down? Glad to see Call back home safe and sound with all his limbs attached. Not long now before Sammie is back too, she is ready for home now. Wanted to know if I had got the bacon in for butties. lol. Sarah & Kevin in Turkey for another week. Not quiet though here as we are dog sitting and I am off to garden at theirs before they get back home. Enjoy the pod :O)

Oh that's fantastic Karen ....love it

14 Aug, 2014

And you won't be seeing copycat versions in other gardens very often!

14 Aug, 2014

Thanks everyone. Yes Brian there is a heater, and I've promised Christmas Lunch out there already! I hope it does snow! :))

No Mum, not blinds, just protection from the sun's glare. They do look a bit glum in that photo don't they. Callum is feelings quite poorly and had slept all day. Rach just hates having her photo taken. To be fair, I didn't warn them. Scott spotted me up to tricks just in time!

Derek, they make little ones that actually swivel around!

I have been concerned that the pod might become a local tourist attraction, so today when we were at the top of the hill with the dogs, I voiced my relief that you can't see it at all from up there. Rachel's reply "Well, if I had aliens living in my garden I'd want it kept quiet as well" :))

Love the pod... :)))

15 Aug, 2014

That's brilliant, I love it. The inside reminds me a bit of all the lovely caravan holidays we had in France & Spain.......I think what I'm trying to say is wonderful views but very cosy! The dark planting will look lovely :o))

15 Aug, 2014

Aw, I'm so glad you like it friends. I am waiting to hear the first negative feed back from the locals....there's always someone isn't there. We've been told our gate walls are not nice, our greenhouse is too close to the roads.....not to our face of course. It comes back to us via other more supportive neighbours. But there's always someone with a nasty word to say about anything new. Jealousy I guess.

15 Aug, 2014

What a lovely pod. The flowers make it look even better. :o)

15 Aug, 2014

Thank you Alex! :)

15 Aug, 2014

Yes jealousy Karen + they are just not as inspired as you

15 Aug, 2014

Probably they would be straighter if the Pimms had not been opened before the mower was taken out Snoop lol :O)

15 Aug, 2014

lol.....as if! ;)

15 Aug, 2014

lol :O) hope Cal is feeling better today. Maybe he needs a big glass of Pimms that would make him feel tons better I am sure. :O) Nearly finished the teddy outfit, not sure about it now it is being stitched up. lol. ah well baby Pink will look ok in it I am sure. I hate the thread it is horrible to knit with and even more horrible to stitch up. Just got the ears to knit and fix on now. Pictures will follow if it looks ok not showing if it doesn't. lol :O)

Wow Karen that looks fab. I'm quite green with envy here (the views, the size of the garden and the pod lol).

Glad Calls back safe and sound, hope he's feeling better soon.

As to the moaners, well you can't please everyone, so stuff em eh. One of our neighbours used to moan about the garden (she once told OH to move because he obviously couldn't handle it - this was after injuries meant he couldn't work out there for a while). Since the new fence has gone in I've heard her moaning that we've nicked space (we haven't, its just a taller fence) lol.

I don't know why I had in mind a long oval shaped pod ... I suppose the word 'Pod' gave me that image! It's stunning Karen ... not many gardens could take it but it looks great in yours with the surrounding fields. Many happy times ahead in it. :o)

16 Aug, 2014

I love the Pod Karen ! Its different from the norm and I suspect thats why these people are being nasty ! Its just pure jealousy ! You've worked so hard and deserve this !

16 Aug, 2014

Aw, you are all very kind! :)) thank you so much!

16 Aug, 2014

Karen, this looks fabulous. What a great project. Remember it's your garden you can do what you want in it.
It's not as though you have built an extension or grown a tall leylandii hedge close to a neighbours property.... <]:~))

17 Aug, 2014

Thanks Alan. I don't like attracting attention, but it is lovely and we are enjoying it! Especially on really windy days like this.

17 Aug, 2014

Hope you and the family enjoy many celebrations to come within its spherical walls......fantastic Karen.

17 Aug, 2014

Thank you very much Meadowland!! :)) x

What on earth has the position of your greenhouse got to do with anybody but you I wonder? Anybody would think you'd got planning permission for a housing development.

18 Aug, 2014

I know Stera....people are sometimes tricksy! I try not to let it worry me! Most people around here seem really nice and I have no idea who the moaner is, so I just continue to take folk as they seem. :))

18 Aug, 2014

Wow Karen I will let you off now if I never see the return of Hobbit Hill, the Pod is fantastic and I would love one, obviously there would be no point here as I haven't got your fabulous views to look out at nor would it suit my garden but you certainly have the space and outlook, I think that will be smashing in all the seasons, birdwatching in comfort out of the wind, you'll not get any housework done, with that and your greenhouse you won't want to be indoors.
Wonder how long its going to be before someone reports a UFO appearing in your area, if its lit up at night I'd imagine it would look like a small one , lol..
Waiting with baited breath to see whats next on your list, just ignore the remarks you've been told about, they are definitely the words of a green-eyed monster, in fact I'm wracking my brain trying to think of something really outlandish you could do that would really get their goat, naughty to think like that I know but some folks deserve it, lol.....

19 Aug, 2014

Wow!! I would be in it all the time, just me and my Kindle the odd bottle of wine, some music and shut the door ....fantastic K love it, a brilliant idea.......now where could I put one lol

19 Aug, 2014

Thank you so much...I'm tempted to go and put the lights on in it......

19 Aug, 2014

And why not?

19 Aug, 2014

It's great, Karen! Vive la difference, I say! Honestly - some people... I can imagine someone choosing to walk past your garden just to "tut". It looks good - Christmas dinner will be quite an experience!

19 Aug, 2014

Thanks Melchi!

20 Aug, 2014

Its fab karen imagine if you got Duirmid Gavin in they'd have something to say then! :))

24 Aug, 2014

Heh Jane, I enjoyed his programmes, subtle bright orange/purple dividing walls, made out of 1" thick metal sheets .. lol

24 Aug, 2014

Yes, that would be something! Callum is coming home tonight, :))) it feels like he's been away ages, but it's only been a week this time. I am glad he's coming home, I've missed him. :)) all the family back together again for a while...until one or the other of them moves out.

24 Aug, 2014

Enjoy, Karen - it's great sharing time with grown-up kids!

24 Aug, 2014

What a wonderful way to enjoy the view any old time of the year, Karen. An amazing structure. The planting around it is very inspired. Hope that your little doggie makes a complete recovery.

Thanks Melchi and Dorjac!

A bit late again but i have been looking at your pod pics, i love that pod and it being jan next year now, i saw your dark planting around it, absolutely lovely. I will be following how that border develops.

27 Jan, 2015

Thank you Resi! The dark planting was inspired by my Chelsea visit last year. Like you, I can't wait to see it maturing! The Heucheras and the Phormiums are pretty much the only thing showing any colour at the moment, but I it will all start coming back to life soon.
