A Bit of 'upcycling'

Do you remember this comment and photo from the second of my Chelsea Blogs?

…..I liked this bit of upcycling! :) I have a pallet beside my garage…might do something with it!

Well, I DID do something with it. Rachel had seen something done with a BBQ area on Love Your Garden (I missed it) and she told me about it, and I remembered the Pallet sitting behind the garage, and that Chelsea blog and thought I’d get on and do something.

Now when the summerhouse is in, it will be opposite this BBQ corner and perfect for some nice relaxing evenings with family and friends.

If you look carefully you can see a tiny glass perfume bottle with stopper. The builders took it out of my garden today. They were making foundations for the summerhouse and found a glass pit and this still intact. It looks Victorian to me…but who knows. I think it’s a lovely bit of the history of the house.

There’s also FIL’s ‘Tin Man’ on the top…the one that MIL hated and hid away. Scott brought him home, couldn’t bear to leave him when the house was sold. So FIL is now in the BBQ as well…which is good because he loved family get togethers and he really loved his grub!

I planned to have lots of herbs, but it’s not easy to find them right now, the GC is selling everything off before the next season’s stuff arrives. I might get some later, but for now, it’s alpine stawbs and Violas.

The potting bench was self assembly and we decided to paint it up as well and use it as a serving bench. Mum’s picnic basket completes the effect.

All I need now is a big hardy Palm for that pot! I’ll go and get one tomorrow :)) Have a lovely evening on this perfect midsummers day everyone! :) Karen

UPDATE 2016

The Pallet was very vulnerable to winds and today OH has fastened some extra batons across the front so that the pots aren’t continually blown off as they were last year. Will get a picture asap.

That glass perfume bottle may be Roman. There is one
in Kettering Museum. It was found buried at the site of
a settlement north of Kettering. Hard to believe they knew enough to make such a delicate object.

ps I saw something similar but it was a living wall cannot remember how they made it up think it was boots and wellies fastened to a pallet and planted up with all sorts of things, flowers, herbs etc. I told sammie and sarah about it and hope one day they will do one for the children in school they could use their old wellies and plant them up something to remember their little days from. ps. Team Middlebrook is PINK. lol

Love the blue Karen. Looks like an advert for a high class garden store. Classy.

Never did go and get that Palm. Thanks Linda! It's quite a bit greener than in that pic. The colour is truer on the pic of the potting bench.

The sun has finally come out here this evening after a really dark day of crashing thunder and lightening. The rain has been torrential most of the day too. Even the pots are flooded tonight.

Karen go on Facebook and see what the cricketers got up to yesterday, it is so funny. We were washed out with rain so they had to find something to do. lol. Well the ones that are daft enough to do it had to find something to play. lol

Absolutely incredible! We got off lightly again. The weather here this summer has been perfect for a new garden.....warm days and wet days, but nice straight down summer rain....and not too much of it! Yesterday was a bit hot, but I continued working and had my hat on, so no ill effects.
