Just a few pics of garden today.

Been busy this morning before the rain came. I removed the grass from around the remaining four apple trees, watered them really well with Miracle Grow and scattered the ash from the winter wood fires on top of the soil. Hopefully this will help to give them a boost before the winter pruning. As you know, they are stricken with Apple Scab, and I think one has Canker, so they are in need of some TLC.

Here are some pics of the garden today before the rain came. it’s topped again now, but I think we might get more showers later.

We had lunch at our local today, and must say it was excellent pub grub, so that’s another good find. Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! :)

Your garden is excellent and now well established Karen as if it had been there for yrs.

Thank you Kath. I feel that it has all been very successful so far. I suppose that's because I've been practising for a long time now! lol! I'm just ordering the red plants for the summerhouse borders. I'm going to surround the summerhouse with plantings in shades of dark red, maroon etc. and black foliage. and a few paler highlights. :) I love the planning stage!

Really is looking good Karen and in such a short time, hope you get to relax in your hammock, cold grey day here...

What part of the garden is your summerhouse Karen?

29 Jun, 2014

You must be thrilled with all that you've achieved in such a short time, Karen, it's all looking wonderful!

Hi Karen
Garden looking very pretty :o)

29 Jun, 2014

Thanks terra, Sheila and Lincslass, it's wet here too, and cool. Kath, the summerhouse is going where the swing seat is. back garden corner. It will be coming in August, so I thought I'd start growing the plants on now in preparation.

Wow Karen your garden is looking beautiful you have worked your magic on it,Ilove the hammock between the two trees an ideal spot to rest awhile;0)

Wow fabulous :))

29 Jun, 2014

That is looking so good, it really has altered in such a short space of time. I love it all and those apple trees look so much better with the grass taken away love them hope they keep going for you for years and year. :O)

Thanks Carole, Daylily and Mum. I think it's going to take some effort to get these trees healthy again, but I'll do my best!

29 Jun, 2014

It all looks great. Even with the turf removed from around the trees - it gives them a more defined look I think. I hope with a bit of tlc they'll improve for you somewhat. Only just noticed I repeated what you mum has said, sorry OO - don't mean to be a parrot :)
Your plans for the planting around the summer house sounds wonderful too. Enjoy the planning :)

Absolutely beautiful!

That standard rose is full of bloom, could you possibly take a close up picture of it Karen? Many thanks.... :)))

We have had a lot of heavy rain in the last few days, I am very happy as I have recently planted some new fruit trees and other plants. Everything are doubling in size.

29 Jun, 2014

Thanks Michaella. That is R. Odyssey....isn't it amazing? I did take a close up, but didn't include it. I'll put it on for you later.

Thanks Angie! I preferred the trees with the grass right up to their trunks, but I know that isn't a healthy way for the trees, and they definitely need some special attention. I watered them really well, and fed them, so that's a start. At least they will now get a bit of the rain when it falls. That turf was definitely choking them.

29 Jun, 2014

Well - I'm going to be a parrot! The trees look much happier already!

The garden looks absolutely wonderful, Karen - your hard work is well rewarded, and I bet you get a thrill every time you look at it.

How lovely to have those trees placed just right for the hammock. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it!

I've had plenty of time today Melchi....and constant showers! Typical eh? Tomorrow the weather will be better, and I will be rushing around the supermarket, hanging out laundry, cooking the dogs' dinners.... cleaning...etc...etc!

29 Jun, 2014

Inevitable!

We had 24 hours of rain (I had wished for a shower...), not very heavy but unremitting. But it filled the waterbutts (hooray!) and - amazingly - the sunshine returned today and we spent most of the afternoon outside, with a guest, and couldn't have wished for more. (Although - actually - now I think of it, I am very much hoping for good weather in a fortnight, for a big family get-together. Of course, it won't really matter, but spilling out into the garden would be so nice...)

It's all looking fantastic you must feel very satisfied with the results of all your hard work.
Don't the new gates look posh? :)

30 Jun, 2014

Karen has the man been to put the base in for the greenhouse yet? So looking forward to seeing it in situ. :O)

30 Jun, 2014

Thank you Karen! :)))

I would love a summer house, what shape is yours going to be? You Know what I'm going to say about the tree circles in the lawn....Immaculate! Lol x

30 Jun, 2014

Just looked at an earlier blog Karen and those tree circles make a dramatic difference to your lawn, love them ;O)

30 Jun, 2014

I agree Annie they look amazing now :O)

30 Jun, 2014

Looks as though you've been resident there for a long time Karen. Those apple trees should get a new lease of life now the grass taken back and feeding them too.

30 Jun, 2014

Melchi, I hope the sun shines on your family do!

Waddy, yes, I love my gates, they are the biz! :)) and thanks, yes, I am really pleased with the whole garden so far!

Annie, the summer house is a glass pod that Scott fell in love with at Chelsea...not a conventional summerhouse, more a cross between a conservatory and a seat off the London Eye!! I'm afraid it will be something of a local focal point/tourist attraction, so I'm already planning how to hide it with Sambucus Black lace!! WHEN you visit, we'll have lots of fun in there! :))

Thanks Dorjac too, encouraging comments about the apple trees.....we'll get that Cider Press is a couple of years if all goes to plan! :)) definitely won't be needing it this year!

30 Jun, 2014

It's looking beautiful Karen ....

30 Jun, 2014

It'll be like a mini Shard, Karen! Don't let the sambucus grow too high!

30 Jun, 2014

Thanks Stripes!

Melchi, not so much shard, more 'bubble'!

30 Jun, 2014

Lol! Well - "Shard" might have been just a bit alarming!

30 Jun, 2014

A bit sharp! ;)

1 Jul, 2014

Sounds exciting!

1 Jul, 2014

Oh, it is. Wait till you see it. I've already ordered the plants...well some of them. I'm going for a dark red with black foliage theme and lots of purple leaved heuchs at the front. Rosa 'Darcey Bussel' once I can get some in the autumn. We are waiting for the landscaper to come now and do the bases for that and the greenhouse, then I can order my greenhouse, which I am sooooo excited about. :)

1 Jul, 2014

I've pm'd you! :)
