The Golden Border is finished! :)

Well, my order of plants arrived today as promised and I’ve planted them all up. The complete planting list is in the first blog “Inspired by Crathes….” if you want to look at that for any reason, but it’s really only there for my own reference.
Today we’ve had a beautiful blue sky day and that was gorgeous, but made pictures quite tricky. However, it turned cold and cloudy about 7pm, so I was able to get some more photos then, without the challenge of shadows.
As many of you know, I use GoY as a way to keep in touch with Oliveoil and as we are both passionate about gardening, this is a great way for us to share our love of plants when so many miles separate us geographically.
Mum, I was tickled to find out that this Verbascum I planted today is called Gainsbourough. I love the colour and thought I’d have to have it as it is names after somewhere so significant for me!
As the herbaceous plants come in to flower I will take photos of them, but already the border is terrific. It makes me smile every time I look at it. :))
I hope somebody somewhere will be inspired to visit Crathes Castle Gardens, especially the Golden Garden, and maybe even to develop their own version! It will brighten even the dullest day…guaranteed! :))
p.s. please don’t worry about my lawn….seed has already germinated in those bare patches, and little by little I am beating the moss and the weeds! :)

Your idea to curve the border really sets it off.

Forgot to mention the Hakone grass is very golden and striking....have you included that, K?

Meadowland you are quite right about the grass we grow several versions of it and it is a wonderful way to light up a border...
Well done K at long last!! a big pat on the back, will look better and better as time goes by.

It looks great now and as Lincs mentioned how wonderful it's going to look next year and many after that.
I even love the wee stepping stones Karen - well done!

Thank you all so much! I do have Hakonechloa and it's lovely, but it's deciduous. I have planted six of Carex elata 'Aurea' which is golden and also evergreen. They are young and green, but they will colour up as they age (unless the nursery sent me the wrong grass!).

Wow it looks amazing, it makes the garden look bigger still. You have done well Karen, it looks an absolute picture. I am looking forward to it as it develops it will be so pretty next year as it grows and fills out. No wonder you keep smiling.
Cloudy here for most of the day and a cool breeze blowing about. My garden looks a picture at the moment too, lots of roses out and I cannot stop taking pictures as it seems to get more colourful each day. Thank goodness the water did not spoil it too much, the only things which are struggling are the pelargoniums which are now beginning to recover, but they were covered over with water. It is amazing how things recover. :O)

Looks brilliant Karen. I am a huge fan of gold and lime foliage and have used it to brighten up the north facing parts of my garden(It's a shame the bloomin Katydids like it too!) Have you got Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Golden Arrow'? It's very well behaved for a Persicaria.

you must have had a mega-delivery! and to plant all that lot in one day ... your back must be feeling it today! It looks brilliant, and will look spectacular when they start settling in and filling out.

Karen, you have worked wonders since you moved in to your new home. As the plants establish and spread it's all going to look fantastic.

I am so impressed with what you have accomplished in such short time Karen. I'd like to see this border in couple of years. It will look magnificent.

Thank you all very much indeed! Fran I only planted about 12 plants yesterday, not the whole border, just the finishing plants! :))

Karen it's looking stunning, really bright and cheerful. I'll bet it will look even better as it matures.

You can just imagine how brilliant it's going to look by this time next year as it's looking so good already.

Thank you both. It will be great in two or three years when everything fills out.

I Googled an image of the original at Crathes - impressive, isn't it? I'm not surprised you were inspired!

Very impressive Melchi...but you really have to stand in it to know what inspired me. It was incredibly uplifting emotionally.

I can well believe that, Karen.
