How very kind of Shirley, such lovely healthy plants too;0))

Thanks Ladies. Sadly they have had to endure a lot more cold than they would had I had a greenhouse, but they are picking up. It's a shock when you get transported from the south coast of England to the East coast of Scotland overnight!

Isn't it nice to have good friends? I'm sure Shirley will be pleased to see her 'gifts' have been put to good use. I hope they all grow and thrive.

Great gifts from Shirley. I've got some Allium roseum which she kindly sent me some time back. As yet, they just look like stalks of grass so will wait till they flower to show pictures. Your plants have certainly had some adjusting to do. Hope they do really well for you.

I love the generosity of GoYers too.

Oh Karen, thanks so much for sharing my gifts to you on GoY! You have sent me some lovely plants too, in fact one of them, the beautiful Aquilegia, is flowering already, so, you see, it definitely is good to share! The Lilac cutting is from the one gifted to me back in 2007 from a now departed dear friend, he may have left this Earth but his memory lives on in my garden. Glad to have found GoY ... :o))x

Shirley please please please can you tell me how to take a cutting of my lilac tree, I have always wondered how to do it. I have tried several times and nothing has grown from my sprigs. I have managed to grow roses from little bits of cuttings but for some reason never a lilac.

Well, my cuttings were simply uprooted suckers from beneath the Lilac shrub potted up about two years ago! Apparently stem cuttings taken from the tips of the branches, or softwood cuttings, or layering in early Summer should be successful. In nature, they reproduce from seed or root suckers. So there's your choices Barbara! Happy propagating ... :o)

These Shirley plants are getting widespread, come in all shapes and sizes and don't seem to mind leaving home, I too think of mine by the name of the person who kindly sent them to me....

Lol Sue, I have many GoYers thriving in my garden - not in person - but in plants! :o)

Many years ago I remember pinning a floppy new branch from a lilac into the ground and starting a new shrub that way, at the moment I have a Photina pinned down in that way hoping to remove it from mother plant next year... Its the one Brynner broke down last year, its sprouted way down so thought I'd take advantage and gain another one..

That's one of the great things about goy ! I too have received some lovely plants from Shirley.
I haven't been around much lately Karen as our family from France have been staying with us for a while. Needless to say, it rained nearly all the time they were here ! We still enjoyed it though !

I seem to be in and out of goy at the moment Karen and in just under 2 weeks we are off to Turkey again for 3 weeks this time. I'm still trying to find time to do my May blog, but the weather at the moment is just too nice to stay indoors !
