Mystery Tree Revealed!

….A Sorbus! It has lots of flowers, so I’m hoping for berries of some colour. It doesn’t look like the native ‘Mountain Ash’ to me, the shape is too tall and elegant. It might be my favourite, ‘Joseph Rock’ but there are lots of varieties and strangely, when we arrived here in late October there was no sign of any berries at all. Hmm…time will tell.

Here it is in it’s spring glory….its the one in the raised border, centre left. The others are all apple trees. (Notice I cut the grass today, with my new mower!)

And here is the Herby Patio…in the sunshine.

This is the back lawn that I am working on right now. Scarified the life out of it yesterday, but still not down to the soil really. I’m scared to do any more scarifying, so I’ve reseeded and am now aerating and raking sand in the holes. I don’t know if will ever recover, but here’s hoping!

My patio today….

Lawn care is certainly hard work, K.....each year I have to remove certain amount of moss...they say to scarify at late Spring, which you've done.Just keep it well watered and fingers crossed.Rest of garden looks great!

It's a Bosch Snoop. It's on special offer at BQ. 42 cm rotary cutting blade. Same as my old one, but bigger and quieter. I like!

Pleased its a rowan, maybe you have hungry birds or someone witha passion for rowan jelly!

Thanks Pam. I'm pleased too!

I'm sure the lawn will recover Karen - it probably sighed the biggest sigh when you removed all the moss.
Good news re Rowan, I notice the ones that line the river here are at the exact same stage.

Hi Karen, I've just been in the garden to check my S Joseph Rock and I dont think your's is that one. The leaves of mine are darker, more dark green/reddish and the flower buds are darker too.

Karen you'll be surprized how quickly your lawn will recover, we had ours done last year by G/T and it looked awful after he'd finished but it soon came back and is looking great this year.....

Thanks for that info Dawn. It's very helpful because I am wanting a JR for the corner at the gate, but would have waited I case this was that one. I've never seen a Rowan with such light and silvery leaves as this one. I'll do a bit of research and see if I can find out any more.

Had a brainy idea and sent pics to Jason at Bluebell Arboretum. He will know what it is!

too bloody cold for the garden.

Good thinking there K......it is a lovely tree and looks at home there, you are so luck it will not have to be pruned to within an inch of its life to keep it small lol
Your garden does look enormous.....everything seems to be coming along nicely, cannot wait to see the roses in bloom.....

Maisiesdad....it's been cold here all week. Today was the best day we've had for ages. Hope it warms up soon. April is tough going when it's cold! :))

Karen, I cant believe you know Jason at Bluebell. Lol. They are only a couple of miles from me. Robert the owner has been here on a couple of visits, he actually advised us on the planting of the woodland. :-)

He's great Dawn. I've bought a few trees from him over the past few years, and he is so helpful and friendly. We've only spoken on the phone. :)

The grass will recover have you given it a good feed, it will be running you ragged in no time. lol. The garden looks lovely, pleased the tree is revealing its leaves at last. I tried Rowan Jelly once, bit too tart for me and a bit heavy on the taste buds. I suppose it makes a difference as to which Rowan berry you use also. I had mine given to me from a friend who lives in Bole. Threw it all away it was awful.

Weather a bit cooler here, but forecast for sunshine later this morning. More gardening today, then out for tea tonight to meet up with a couple of friends and their new baby. Hope you are enjoying yourselves up there in your new garden and finding time to relax also. xxx

Must feed it Mum, I'll finish aerating first, then give it a good feed and water, and hopefully it will get going again. Awful cold and windy again here today, so getting on with laundry and cleaning. Always good to get spruced up for a new week. :)

Hi Karen ..
fun to identify flowers and trees in your garden. :o)

Sorry to here cold and windy with you Karen mind you are closer to see.

We went on long walk then out on bikes it got up to 18 deg.

Then some time in garden .

Think it's to rain tomorrow.

Watch you don't overdo it.

Take time to rest

Turned out a beautiful day, and the aerating of the lawn got finished in time for the heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. We could do with it actually, I'm fed up watering!

The fields around us Karen are so so dry.

21 Apr, 2014

Yes, ours too. We got 'fertilized' this evening as we finished off the aerating, the tractor came across the field and some of the fertilizer ended up in the garden and on us! Just hope the weedkiller doesn't do the same! Farmer promised to be careful.

We passed afield today and the stench Karen was so strong.

21 Apr, 2014

Oh, that's just a 'good country smell' Kath! No, luckily, tonight it was solid wee pellets, not smelly stuff!
