Patio border and shrubbery mulched.

This week I emptied the remaining two compost bins so I could mulch the borders, and also so I could move the bins in readiness for the new wall and gate, which are going to be starting next week!! :))))

The patio border has been emptied, re-shaped, edged and replanted since we arrived in late October. I am aiming for a modern cottagey look, with emphasis on scent and herbs. The colours will be mostly pastel shades.

I am so excited now to see it all begin to flower. I have all the plants I’ve ordered, they are all planted up, and I found the last of the plants on my ‘wish’ list for this area today. They were Erysimums, variegated purple and a plain green with peachy shades.

The main stars of this border are the roses, 11 of them, the Dianthus, several different kinds and colours, all scented of course, the Erysimums, the herbs, Phlox (which are still dormant) and scented lilies. There are some scented shrubs (Osmanthus, Witch Hazel, Philadelphus ‘Belle Etoile’), and my lovely Acer ‘Red Wine’ which I brought in it’s pot from the old place.

It will be lovely to see the photos in a months time and see if there is much change!

The shrubbery is planted up with several evergreen flowering shrubs and other shrubs, most of which came from the old garden. There are some bulbs that were already in, but the tete a tete’s are my addition. The mulch finishes it off nicely.

Thank you both. There is something special about a border all freshly planted and just waiting to grow! Sadly it will be waiting a little longer here, as it is very cold, and this morning we have a thick fog. :( but this is March.

Super Karen, looking neat, a slight resemblence to your old garden seems to be evolving, the house walls are similar too. Isnt it satisfying when you find the plants you actually want, the garden centres sometimes seem to make you buy what they have. Did you bring the compost bins with you or were they kindly left by the previous people?

Thank you Dawn. Scott and I were just saying on Saturday that the garden is starting to look like it is ours now! And yes,the same old white harling which is a pain for photos as it is so glary! :)

Terra, that's one of my tree heaths...Erica arborea 'Albert's Gold'. It looks fabulous in the winter, it will even tolerate a bit of lime, it has scented flowers in the later spring I think, and will grow quite tall in time...up to about 4' I believe. I have four of them around the place for the winter colour. They are so cheerful :))

Thank you Daylily. I don't know about clever, I just love gardening! :))

I can imagine seeing your wonderful borders in a month or two. We are in the Canaries at the moment and the plants are fabulous but I still prefer the amazing range we get in the UK.

Thank you Lincslass! I will keep doing the blogs. Linda, you're right, we can grow an amazing range here. I wonder If there is anywhere else in the world with a climate like ours, that enables such diversity.....I can't think of anywhere.....not too hot, not too cold...and all we do is complain about the weather! :)

Wow karen, what a difference you have made to your garden, I bet the previous owners would get a suprise, it looks Lush :) Raining here again, can't get in the garden at all, i feel like im loosing my mojo, I need to lift stuff and replant etc but with all the rain the plants are growing fast. so of course it will be a harder job for me and the easter holidays start Friday Grrrr lol..

Never mind Hun. We can only do what the weather allows. If it doesn't get done this year....it will wait until next. My builder is here doing the wall foundations, but we will have to cover it all up, as heavy rain forecast coming from your end this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow will be better as the wall is scheduled for then. So far, spring has been pretty cold and miserable. Winter was better! ;)

It all looks great looking forward to seeing the new wall and gates hope the weather picks up for you soon. Quite chilly our end but fine at the moment. Having problems with my computer so having to use Paul's I.pad to look at pictures and blogs. Hoping computer whizz kid can get to sort out my puter soon. I am so slow on this screen not able to touch type drives me nuts lol.

It is looking grand, I like the shape of the beds, and the summer border with all the roses will be wonderful, well done, cannot believe just how much work you have done since you moved in.....by the time the GH arrives you will be ready for it !!

Thank you wild Rose. Everything is frozen in time here as the weather has been so cold lately, and thick foggy clouds. I hope we will get a change soon!
