Birthday over...work recommenced!

So, today I started with the loppers chopping up all those hedge prunings and bagging them ready for OH to take to the dump. We have no shredder, and it was far too windy for a fire. Every time I lit it, the wind blew it out! Any way, not to worry, by about 2pm I had half of it done, but boy, it’s hard work on my back bending down to cut all the branches in to little bits.

So, after that, I decided to do something a bit more creative. I edged the grass under the hedge that’s been pruned, shaped and removed some turf, and then raked the soil and sowed all my wild flower seeds. They are hardy, so should be fine…might take a few weeks to germinate, but that all depends on the weather I guess.

I also added three honeysuckles and a fuchsia ‘Lady Boothby’ to this area, so the hedge won’t be bare for ever. Those things will soon get growing! You might also spot some little Aquilegia plugs that I had been growing at the castle (intended for them but they didn’t want them) which I brought home and used for the wildflower area.

You’ll be glad to see that curves have returned to the garden again!

I’m shattered now….again! But tomorrow we are going to Glasgow to choose our new puppy! Yay!

lol...well, I am just so hopeful for the wildflowers Annie. If they are half as good as the ones I sowed in the last place, it will be wonderful! I've no idea what's in there as I've added loads as I've bought a packet here and there, and I started with a wildflower mix from Scotia (hedgerow mix, no grasses). Not everything in there is a proper wildflower, but I don't mind about that. I just can't wait to see what it will turn out like. :)

You have to be kidding! He's a harsh task master! Have you seen the work he's got me doing while he goes swanning off on Poncy Dental Courses? I deserve a greenhouse! In fact, I really deserve a diamond too, but that'll never happen!

In another life I will be you Lol xxx

Hi Karen, I like curves as well, I was always taught that, 'there are no straight lines in nature', but sometimes, unfortunately, they are unavoidable, Derek.

Good job, well done. Puppy puppy, thought that wasnt happening, general consensus being greenhouse? Lol

Should we start an online petition so you get the greenhouse ;)
Those wildflowers are going to look great. Have a great day and I'm sure the right pup will choose you first, they often do.

Oh Sam, thank you ...you're right. Will I actually survive this summer?! ;)

22 Mar, 2014

Lol lol, now there's a question. There's nothing like a pup (or small child for that matter) to keep you on your toes.

22 Mar, 2014

Lol...maybe I'll be fitter! :)

22 Mar, 2014

You are going to have a great summer watching all your hard work come into fruition Karen, I think the new pup will be the cream on the cake for all the family.
Labradors are very popular amongst my family, so very affectionate, naughty bundles of fun, lol... yes you'll be fitter...

I am really looking forward to having the new dog....I know that the rest of the family are going to be amazed at just how different from Molly she will be! We do love Molly very much.....even though she has absolutely no empathy whatsoever and only cares about sitting on us to get our heat...bit like a cat! Lol! Very, very independent!

What, even better than days and days scarifying lawn? ;)

25 Mar, 2014

Lol certainly beats that although I have no lawn left to scarifying lol x

26 Mar, 2014

....sigh....I have plenty of lawn....and even more moss.....about a bin bag of moss for every square metre of grass in fact. It's going to take years to get that grass half decent, so as Scott said today, there's no point in rushing it or going over the top with treatments. It will take time and a LOT of scarifying! lol! I looked at the forecast and it looks good in Ireland....enjoy! The weather here is warming up in time for you coming back! :)))
