It’s been beautiful here today. I think spring has definitely arrived. I even had to take my sweater off when I was working out there.

I’ve been working mostly at the front today, re-shaping the patio border, which meant peg-and-boarding the edge and lifting and relaying some turf.

Then I planted twelve little Lavenders. This is going to be a border for scent and herbs (mainly). It still needs a lot of work, mostly planting and digging out some bulbs that look suspiciously like bluebells.

I also pruned back another section of the hedge which will allow me to sow my wildflower seeds underneath, but it takes a long time to burn the debris and there’s far too much to take to the dump. So it’s a little at a time for the hedge pruning. Still, we are getting lots of small wood for the fire next winter :)

The back garden is coming on too. I’ve planted all the small hostas, split a big hosta in to six and planted it as well and all the rest of the Heucheras are in as well. I’ve mulched with some bark chippings and also moved both of the Fatsias and Annie’s Hebe in to the borders. It will look good when everything comes up (I hope). I’ve ordered some white Digitalis as well to go at the back.

It’s such a lovely place to live. I had a wonderful day…just me, Molly, the birds and the farmers. Just lovely. :)

Loving how your garden is developing Karen....it is going to be even more beautiful in late Spring/ Summer, can't wait to see..... :)))

10 Mar, 2014

lol..you two...no, I just watched as the Farmer sprayed the field with more smelly fertiliser! :)

10 Mar, 2014

Thank you Michaella...it is lovely. I am very happy here! :)))))))))

How interesting your garden looks as it develops, Karen.....such hard work......can you remind me what the boundary hedge is please!

10 Mar, 2014

Its hawthorn, mostly J. It is just starting to green up on one side....at the roadside. The other three sides are behind, probably because they are very old and not as vigorous....bit like mysefl! ;)

That front patio border looks much better now Karen. If I'd had a bet I knew you'd be out working hard in the sunshine we've all been enjoying.
The scented border sounds like a wonderful idea, but don't you like Bluebells?

10 Mar, 2014

I love them, but not rampaging in my border! They need to be in wild places.

10 Mar, 2014

That's a very sizable border Karen, it's going to be a wonderful place to sit and drink it all in. Nice choice of plants too.

10 Mar, 2014

Tanks A. I need some scented lilies!

10 Mar, 2014

Its all progressing nicely Karen and it makes such good sense to have a scented and herb garden around your patio border.

Taking shape K, it is more difficult to design a garden in the country, than a town one........at one time we lived in the country, we had thirty acres!! but then we had no time for gardening, too busy making a living off the land to enjoy it.
Keep posting the blogs, it's so interesting seeing your garden take on a new identity, great to have some sunshine too......watch out for those farmers!

10 Mar, 2014

Thanks A. Blimey! 30 acres eh? I'm glad I don't have that...mind you, I suppose if I did I could just rent it to a friendly farmer! ;)

11 Mar, 2014

I'm so pleased for you Karen xxx

11 Mar, 2014

Thank you Pam, you are kind :))

Stroller, thanks, it's a bit different, I've not tried it before. I've phlox and dianthus on order for later, a few roses in, and just planted a philadelphus. Osmanthus next, to replace that old euonymus, and then we'll see if there's room left after I get the herbs in :)

11 Mar, 2014

...oh, forgot, sweetpeas!

11 Mar, 2014

Like it now it has been straightened up, lol you know what I mean. The edges straightened. lol

It is coming on a treat, summer is on its way, I have done loads in the garden in the last two weeks, great weather we are getting. Still very chilly if you are not working though, need to move quicker. lol

Enjoy yourself - what is next, was thinking maybe if you plant the bluebells under the hedge that would make it look nice. The hedge will soon be all out, just needs more sunshine, the blackthorn bushes down the dual carriageway are all out, but they get the sun all day and it is high on the bank sides, looks a picture covered in blossom.

Hi there Karen! long time since I logged on to Goy, looks like great minds (gardening minds lol) think alike, we have moved too in the last year. We took on an old bungalow and a very over grown garden (See my blog two years on) We still have got a load of work to do, but after a lot of hard work we finely got to the stage of planting up at the end of last year. Your new garden looks great and remembering how wonderful your old garden was I'm looking forward following your progress.

What you don't know yet is the farmer likes to trampoline in the summer!!!!!
I like the new border Karen, the shape works well there.xxx

11 Mar, 2014

hahahaha lol Annie, shhhhhhh she will have nightmares now. lol.

11 Mar, 2014

Lol Why Olive?!!! Maybe the farmer will do it quietly not like her old noisy neighbours ;O)) xx

11 Mar, 2014

Farmers don't do anything quietly Annie, lol. Not even at 5.30 am on a Sunday morning when the fields need ploughing. lol.

11 Mar, 2014

wonderful: idyllic :o))

11 Mar, 2014

It looks great, Karen. What a lot of work! You must be really excited the way it's coming on. And yes - the sunshine is wonderful, isn't it? It is so lovely to be out in the garden seeing bees and butterflies emerging. Let's hope we have a few more days like this.

11 Mar, 2014

Absolutely! Scott is off tomorrow. It will be nice to have a sunny day together!

11 Mar, 2014

Coming along well Karen, you sorted the weather didn't you, I'd like to know how you worked that one out, I can remember you doing blogs from your old house by taking the pics out of the windows as you were stuck indoors due to the lousy weather, its been so good for you since you moved in. lol......

11 Mar, 2014

This spring must be such an exciting time for you Karen.

11 Mar, 2014

It is exciting! Thank you!

Lincslass...what can I say....without revealing my means?! ;)

11 Mar, 2014

LOL, you'd make a fortune...

11 Mar, 2014

Nah...you have to kick a football and have stupid hair and foul language to make a fortune these days!

11 Mar, 2014

Karen, you're really cracking on with the new garden but it's so strange to see straight lines in it after your old 'curvy' garden! Love the idea of a scented/herb bed ... :o)

13 Mar, 2014

Isn't it strange?! I know! It's something completely new to me, as is a scent and herb garden. That's why I'm so excited! I have ordered seven more strongly perfumed roses, one a full standard (new to me) and one a half. I haven't grown any of these roses before.....I'm so excited to get them! Then there's the hot colours perennial bed in the raised central area..full of plants, most of which I've never grown! It's going to be so lovely Shirley!..can't wait! Thank you for your comment! :))

13 Mar, 2014

Its looking good Karen and isn't the weather just great !

13 Mar, 2014

Hot colours perennial bed eh? No doubt there will be much orange colour ...........

13 Mar, 2014

Cloudy and chilly here today Rose...but yesterday was grand. I was at the castle. I shan't be going there so much this year because of my new garden and the puppy that will be coming soon.

13 Mar, 2014

I am so envious, what a fantastic place to live and what a lovely outlook:-)

21 Mar, 2014
