Bargains today at GC

I went to the GC to get a couple of winter heathers for a planter today and they had small but healthy looking climbers for £1 each, so I picked up 14 Lonicera Halliana (a highly scented honeysuckle) to plant through my hawthorn hedge. With my 10% off loyalty card that makes it £12.60 for the lot. I reckon that’s quite a bargain. I’ll get them in the ground ASAP so they don’t dry out.

Lonicera Halliana growing in my last garden. I think this will make my hawthorn hedge a much prettier feature.

Oh, yes, I did get a couple of heathers,

Hope you get them all planted. I was out there today cutting back my poor evergreen ferns that were beaten up by all that wind. I had blown all the leaves and was really proud of myself but.......I have had to pick up sticks and branches too. It is quite mild again but it gets dark so early.

Won't that be a heavenly hedge? A wonderful idea to fill gaps with a beautifully scented honeysuckle........come to think of it, our hedge has one or two gaps too!!!

I love a bargain too and there are some good things in the GC's at the moment. We went up to Milnathort to bring back our trailer. The car (it is very well trained, would make a sniffer dog look like an amateur) turned off the road at Kinross GC and as I walked towards the bulb stand the assistant put up a 50% discount sign. I have been swithering about spending £3.99 on a single Fritillaria persica bulb and I got 5 for £8.99 including that handy extra 10% members discount. A £5 reward voucher from buying my daughter a membership card meant I only handed over £3.99. I am dead chuffed. Your hedge will scent the garden beautifully.

Fab SG yes Karens hedge going to smell wonderful.

I think I may add one to one of my spaces to.Mind you at that price they may be all gone.

Ha ha....that are indeed all planted. It's dismal here today, but mild, and my soil is really lovely....unlike the waterlogged parts at the last place! So, in they all went, all over the garden in all the big gaps. I also got a tray of cyclamen hederifolium all reduced to £1 each last week, so they are planted too. The collection of potted refugees is decreasing now. :)

Cheered me up after the roofer chopped half my arbutus off when he threw his hammer off the roof. :( I love that Arbutus...

Well done Karen, I love a good bargain. Unfortunately I usually miss them...unless I'm with Bloomer she can spot a bargain at a mile away! What a shame about the Arbutus.:(

Thanks Waddy! Pretty drench here today so I bought my Christmas present to me....pergola arch and roses. Now I feel very. 'Christmassy'!

Dreich here to Karen wonderful a rose arch.

Where are you putting arch and what rose did you buy.

8 Dec, 2013

kath, I bought a pergola style arch from amazon! and I want to recreate the combo I had at Lethnot with Crown Princess Margareta and honeysuckle 'firecracker'. I should be able to get the honeysuckle at Arbroath. The other roses I bought were Rachel, bridge of sighs, Hommage a Barbara, Hot chocolate and my favourite Chartreuse de Parme.
