A few pics of my new garden...before I started work!

I’ll get some pics as soon as there is any real change to see, but this is to let you see what is already in….five apple trees and two plum trees included!

The Electrician is coming next week to put an outside socket in so I can get my water feature up and running again! Happy Days! :)

Molly took a couple of days to get over the stress of the move, but is now back to her old self.

I can’t tell you how thrilled we all are with our new home, to think that Rachel graduated in June and we had no idea whatsoever that we would be moving…even when we took her up to Sutherland to begin her new job there we had no idea, and that was in August! Isn’t it amazing how life can be? Just when you think you are settling down to an ‘empty nest’ a whole new adventure begins!

Having said all of that, I am really tired! I’ve lifted and shifted until my back is aching and I think it’s time to have a week of rest….after we get back from London where we are heading off this weekend for the Semi-Finals of the Tennis at the O2!

Hope you haven’t had too much wind damage in the Southern Counties….and we have had a heavy frost this morning…but boy, it was beautiful! :)))))) Karen

P.s….since composing this blog we have returned from London, and Rachel has written off her car in a serious rta. But she is ok, just badly bruised and shaken. I am heading north to see her for the weekend to see her. It underlines the fact that life is full of surprises, not all good. I hope to be online next week, and I’ll catch up with everyone asap. Xx Karen

Wonderful garden Karen! So sorry to hear about Rachel, I hope she is okay and not too upset about her car....a rest at Mum and Dads new place is just what she needs.....:))

Goodness what a scare and such a relief for you to hear Rachel is ok.
Your new home and garden is so different and you must be itching to put your stamp on it. Good luck in your new home and please keep us posted.

14 Nov, 2013

I'm sure Rachel will be pleased to see you. I hope she can put it all behind her.
Life can often throw so much at us that we would be dizzy had we had time to stop and think!
Garden looks lovely as it is, I can't wait to see what you do. Have a nice girlie weekend :)

It looks beautiful, Karen. No wonder you are excited - it must be great waking up each morning and realising you are in your lovely new home. Enjoy!

I hope you find Rachel ok, and that she gets over her nasty experience. And how true - we never know what's around the corner.

14 Nov, 2013

I love your new home Karen and cannot believe how quickly you have sold up and moved, down here things would take six months to a year it is chronic. I am glad for you that it is winter now so you can take stock of what you have and want and then next spring you can put all your plans into action, for now take care of Rachel, Molly & yourselves. :)

14 Nov, 2013

Take care going up north. That road can be treacherous. Rachael will be pleased to see you after writing off her car. Your new home looks to be full of potential but nothing urgent. Were the previous owners able to tell you what is not visible at the moment. I imagine ther will be lots of bulbs under the trees. You have plenty of room for beehives and some chickens as well as a soft fruit and veg area. I can see why you are choosing to have a very much bigger greenhouse. I'm glad to hear Molly has settled in well. She will miss your romps on the beach. Its great to have that much space but do look after your back.

14 Nov, 2013

Thanks everyone! It's so good to hear from you all, and reassuring to know my gardening buddies are all still out there! Let's see what tomorrow brings.... x :)

14 Nov, 2013

Have a good weekend Karen, the garden looks very interesting, you are going to have such fun sorting things out and getting it to how you want it to look. Give my love to Rachel, hope she is feeling better by the time you get up to her :O) Drive carefully xxxxx

14 Nov, 2013

oh, you lucky, lucky person! and thank goodness the accident wasn't worse

14 Nov, 2013

I'm so sorry to hear about Rachel. I hope she is not to sore. Such bad news after all your good luck with the new house. Just be thankful it was the car that was a write off and not Rachel! A car can be replaced!
Your going to have lots of fun putting your mark on that wonderful space you have there. That should keep you busy and out of trouble for the next 10 years or so. :-) I love the idea of fruit trees.
Enjoy your weekend!
AND take care on the road!
Greeting from a beautiful 2 day heat wave in LA. I'm loving it!

Hi Karen ..
I hope you find Rachel recovering well after the accident.

Your home is lovely. I can only imagine how wonderful it must be to have those stunning countryside views and be far away from nasty neighbours.

15 Nov, 2013

I do hope you find Rachel recovering well, hugs from her mum will work wonders

Your new home looks lovely, look and learn for a while before major changes, and lots of photos every few weeks......you could even start a scrap book and write what you see and like or want to change, its so easy to forget whats there
Have fun too xxx

I hope Rachels ok Karen what a terrible shock for you, we never know whats round the corner do we.
Wow what a great space to play with!!! love it can see you'll have great fun putting your stamp on it :-)
We're in London Monday and Tuesday at the O2 to see Mott the Hoople would you believe !!! still going strong and must say Ian Hunter still sounds pretty good for his age, one of Robs favourites from years ago.

15 Nov, 2013

Has OH not ordered a ride on tractor yet? My OH would be itching to have one.

15 Nov, 2013

I hope Rachel's got over her accident when you read this Karen, but it must have been a terrible shock fro you all.
I envy you so much with your new home and such a BIG garden. I'm sure it won't' be long before you put your own special mark on it all :)

15 Nov, 2013

Hi Karen, I am so sorry to hear about Rachel, I pray for a quick recovery....wish her well from me. Karen, I love your house and garden, it looks idyllic, my kind of house and garden totally. I know you are like me Karen, when you have set your mind to do something in your garden you like to get it done, but please take it easy and be very careful. All the best in your new home and garden. Look forward to seeing more as time goes on. :)))))

15 Nov, 2013

Wow just love your new garden Karen and a perfect setting, no wonder you are all pleased, I will look forward to watching the development in the months to come. I am so sorry to hear about Rachels accident and hope she makes a full recovery very soon;0)

15 Nov, 2013

Its absolutely lovely Karen and you are going to have a wonderful time putting your own mark on it all, you must be in seventh heaven with all that space to look out on without seeing others rooftops and suchlike, next springtime is going to be a whole new experience for you as I bet you are in for an exciting time waiting to see what pops up in those beds, really pleased to hear that little Mollie has settled in as well.

Sorry to hear that Rachel has been in the wars but it could have been so much worse so be thankful for small mercies, being a mum I know how distressing it is at these times, made worse by the fact that you have so much distance between you when all you want is to hug them and make sure they really are alright..
Take care Karen....

15 Nov, 2013

Thanks for showing us your new home so quickly Karen, but really sorry that you've suddenly had bad news to cope with. Rachel will be so glad to see you, and I hope that long road stays clear of snow for you this weekend. x

15 Nov, 2013

Love the garden, soooooo much space to play with, I would be itching to get started, still you both have plenty of time.
Sorry to read of Rachels accident, I hope see has made a full recovery from the shock..
Looking forward to seeing your progress, loads of room for a great big greenhouse!!🌟🌟🌟

15 Nov, 2013

What a nasty shock for you - but glad she's all right. Thanks for showing us your new 'estate', K. xx

Don't try to sort it all at once, will you? lol.

16 Nov, 2013

You are all so lovely. THANKYOU! I am sitting in Rachel's local with her. We are waiting for our bar supper to come. She is doing well and in pain with bruising, but that will soon heal and she will be back driving as soon as she gets chance. :)) x Karen x

16 Nov, 2013

That's good news about Rachel doing well ..
Enjoy your evening :o) x

16 Nov, 2013

Have a great time the two of you, enjoy yourselves, not too much of the wine though, you will never get to sleep else. :O)

16 Nov, 2013

Well - you might get to sleep, but you'll wake up before you want to!

So glad to hear Rachel is ok. Enjoy your time together.

16 Nov, 2013

I'm glad you have arrived safely and have found Rachel is coping well. I hope you are letting her drive you around tomorrow to reassure her that she is okay to drive. Its a nasty shock when the gravity of the situation sinks in after the initial shock wears off. Have a great weekend. I hope you took her a bamboo.

17 Nov, 2013

Do you know, what with everything, I never thought to take a bamboo. I did take her a basket of cyclamen though! We both got a kiss on sat. Eve...from a very drunken piper in a kilt called Charlie! It was funny! I didn't think that putting Rachel behind the wheel of a Hanover would help her scotsgran! She'll be ok in time. I'm going car hunting for her tomorrow, and she is going to be snowed in anyway, so won't need a car for now.

18 Nov, 2013

Gosh - snow! I've almost forgotten we're halfway through November... And she is almost as far north as it's possible to go on the mainland! Hope all is going well for her in her new home and job.

18 Nov, 2013

Sounds like she is having a whale of a time or is this mum leading her astray. Drunken kilties. Tut tut. Dad will be insisting she comes back home lol. What is a Hanover? If they get a lot of snow she would be best off with a jeep or at least some sort of 4 wheel drive and a set of snow chains. Must be plenty of young farmers around who will be delighted to act as chauffeur to the young lady.

19 Nov, 2013

Wow! What a lovely spot you've found! Sorry to hear about your daughter's close call... is this landrover country? Will they let you use chains on your roads over there, Scotsgran? chains and studded tires are outlawed here in Ontario...they just dump TONNES of salt on the roads....it consumes the bodies of our cars and ruins the vegetation beside our highways, makes our snowy roads soupy with slush and creates an extra dimension of risk to winter driving.
So, do you have your internet yet? First few months here I had to go to dial up...stoneage!!! When our dish was installed we signed up for a package that limited our download traffic and cut us off if we went beyond a certain limit. That had to change. We now have an unlimited plan and now I can view Goy and download pics without a hassle.
Where is your water feature going to be placed? It all looks very open and sunny. can't wait to see your garden next spring/summer... :-)

19 Nov, 2013

We don't usually need snow chains but yes we are allowed to use them. The further north and the higher you go above sea level the more opportunity you might have to use them. There is a huge amount of grit mixed with salt dumped on our roads too. As you have found it is no good for the bodywork of cars. Dial up internet is stone age but in some parts of Scotland they do not even have that yet. Our first computer was a ZX81 from Clive Sinclair. You had to send £50 and then wait six months for a kit to be delivered which my OH had to put together. I can hardly believe that was only about forty years ago if that. Nowadays new models are on the market before you have the previous 'latest' one installed.

20 Nov, 2013

Your new house and garden look so lovely and I hope you enjoy being there so very, very much. Hope all your plants have found a temporary home whilst you are making lots of decisions as to what will go where.

All good wishes go to Rachel after such a nasty shock.

21 Nov, 2013

Thanks all. We are hoping to buy.4 wheel drive for Rachel. We found a cracking little TERIOS in a local garage that will be perfect for her.
I've been out clearing away all the overgrown shrubs near the house today, and with help from Chris and Marion from Glamis, we have made huge progress. The dead hawthorn tree is out and replaced with a sambucus and my red leaved rhody. Tomorrow Ill dig over and replant other things..
I'm still usingy phone and cafes for internet. We don't even have a landline yet. We've had two already and both have been disconnected, so we have now changed provider to BT and we have been promised internet by Friday....its quite frustrating not being online!
Hope to get some pics for you soon! Karen x

23 Nov, 2013

Gosh Karen - you have been busy. I didn't think it would take you long though - replacing trees already!!!

24 Nov, 2013

Your new place looks great Karen. Planty to get stuck into there and really enjoy making the new garden yours. Glad Rachel came out of her accident OK. All those airbags are handy to try and stop serious damage to life and limb. The outlook is good too. I look forward to seeing the garden change as you put your stamp on it.

29 Nov, 2013

Thanks Dorjac. The airbag didn't work, which was just as well, as the back of the car was submerged and she couldn't hold the door open to get out because of the angle. If the airing had inflated she would have had even more trouble getting out. thankfully a motorist coming the other way stopped and got her out. If he hadn't been there....I can't think about that.

1 Dec, 2013

We too are all just grateful to know she is ok. Thank goodness she kept calm and that help appeared when she needed it.

1 Dec, 2013

Thank-you SG!

1 Dec, 2013

Just noticed that when I typed in Landrover it came up as Hanover! Sorry SG. I think she's going to like her Terios, its a dinky 4-wheel drive, and not as nippy as her Peugeot. It will be better for her, and safer. I'll be driving it up to Sutherland on Tuesday, and we'll get her behind the wheel as soon as we get to her.

1 Dec, 2013

Have a safe journey!

1 Dec, 2013

Thanks we will do our best! Unfortunately we have to take two cars to get all her stuff home...but its a beautiful journey, and the stopping places are great. We will take our time.

1 Dec, 2013

It is a beautiful journey (although I only know the easy part!), especially if you have the time to enjoy it. I hope the weather stays mild, and you have a really nice time. And you will be so happy to have Rachel coming back with you :-))

1 Dec, 2013

At least you had an excuse and after I wrote the Q. I twigged it must be a Landrover. The Terios sounds ideal. I wish her many happy years of safe motoring. Safe journey on Tuesday.

2 Dec, 2013

Just bee catching up a bit. Rachel had a lucky escape and I'm pleased she is ok.

You have a gorgeous new playground there. Enjoy !!
