Moving update

Well, thanks for all your advice! we’ve agreed a date today, and booked our removal at a price of £338 for the house. We’ll hire a van to do the plants and garden ourself. Who hoo! Progress at last! Just for interest’s sake, the dearest quote of the four was £1,000 dearer than the cheapest! And that was for the house contents only. It became clear early on that it would be cheaper and safer to move the plants on our own…. It sure pays to shop around!

Well done you that more like it and more money left to spend on your garden Karen or anything for your new home.

Very good Karen, much the best idea, is there a date yet?

24 Sep, 2013

YES! Hurray! The date is agreed verbally. Thursday24th october. :)) Our buyer has returned from working abroad and was straight on the phone to his solicitors this morning...so he is clearly not going to drop out! I feel a lot happier and have even started looking at the photos of my new home again and making plans! Still not signed off as we need to wait for mortgages to be confirmed...but I'm sure all will go well now......I wonder how long it will take before the anxieties start returning! Lol! but next weekend we are going up to Sutherland again to see Rachel! and bring her home for a week or so for her October holiday, so that will be lovely. She can go through all the stuff she's got stored up in our loft! Lol! This weekend I'm going to start moving pots to the path at the side of the house, and start packing up outdoor ornaments etc. four weeks to go!

Well, not much difference there, then?!
Great result, though, Karen. Well done! :)

I'd have offered to come and help but, unfortunately, I'm off on holiday on the 26th... ;)

Ooooh! Where to? We are going up to Sutherland again next Friday, and off to London in November???one extreme to the other!

Not half, Karen!
We're off to Pemba, Tanzania (yup, still got a thing about Africa - just not certain parts of it)...just for a week, though.
Mind you, by the time I get back, you'll already have the heucheras installed... :)

very exciting, it will all be good now, just get the plants sorted and do not think about anything else. Hope Rachel isn't too exhausted to sort out her stuff for you. :O)

Oh, she'll be shoved up into that loft, like it or not mum ;)
Karen, I would like to see Zanzibar, but I've never had any really serious yearning to go to any part of Africa...not even the south....Morocco was nice! I would go back there perhaps, but sub Saharan Africa scares me a lot. Ethiopia looks nice though, and I bet Tanzania will be lovely. I had a friend who lived and worked there for years, but we lost touch, and I'm sure she's back in UK now.

Well done Karen ;)

Pemba's the island north of Zanzibar, Karen. OH asked me where I'd like to go next time he's home and I said Zanzibar (it has always been on my bucket list). So he booked Pemba...which is not Zanzibar, lol

Luckily, the agent messed up on the return journey - so we do get a few hours in the old town in Zanzibar...which I'm pleased about!

That's great news Karen, and at least you have a date to focus on now,so if you are anything like me,you will be ready to roll ! :o) and in regards to Rachel sorting her stuff in the loft..good luck..most of Alison's moved with us,and is still in our loft here..12 years on ! but to be fair, she hadn't room to store it anyway,..like Rachel,I guess....I had to be very ruthless,as we were downsizing, and no garage either..our other was huge..so I think every charity shop in town got something..in their turn Lol.
I hope you will have time to keep us informed on your progress,Karen, as the big day gets nearer,,so exciting when you have so much to look forward to :o) x

Bit of a difference and what a saving!Just think of all those plants you can buy with the money saved!!!!!

24 Sep, 2013

I'm doing the whistling thing! Good going girl..that's more like the price! It's all go now, Karen!

25 Sep, 2013

Ohhhhhh! how exciting. My son Mike is looking at four more flats in London this weekend. I hope he is as lucky as you Karen. Is the next stage 'out the gate' for the plants?

25 Sep, 2013

I guess you'll be very busy!
best wishes.!

That's a much better price, I'm sure you will find a way to spend what you've saved there Karen :o)) I'm still amazed at how quickly this is going through for you, solicitors here seem to have taken lessons on how to delay things.

Oh great news, wont be long now. xx looking forward to seeing the first pics of your new house and garden.....

27 Sep, 2013

Not too long now......can't wait.

27 Sep, 2013

I've just been catching up....haven't you been busy!! I've never known such a fast move....so pleased for you and look forward to hearing all about the new garden :)

28 Sep, 2013

sending you a lorry-load of good wishes for the move. The removal sounds very good - in 2010 one company wanted over £800 to mvoe me from E2 to E2!

I've got a very nice friend who'll hire a van and move me next time - that should work out cheaper yet!

5 Oct, 2013

Friends like that are gold aren't they....no, diamond!

7 Oct, 2013

indeed! I'd be up a gum tree without a paddle otherwise - would have to get the removal firm to pack as well as move, and that'd be ££££££££££££££

7 Oct, 2013

Finally negotiated my way here. Hope all goes well with your move. You must be so excited!

17 Oct, 2013

fingers still crossed for a smooth transition, Karen

17 Oct, 2013
