Looks so cosy brings back childhood memories of a coal fire.

Oh an old fashioned fire, like it used to be many years ago :o))
It looks nice and homely, and you must feel comfortable sitting by it.
I used to enjoy making toast by the old fire :o) It was much nicer than out of a toaster :D

I think the mirror is a bit like yours Sanbaz.

Although we have central heating its still nice to have the open fire, and yes we do have toast done on the fire.
I remember my Gran putting all her spud peelings etc on there as well espectally ay night to keep it in over night.
Those were the days.
Have a very happy New Year we shall be going out to bring the New Year in.

We used to have a hearth like that, I love the dog grate, my dad worked at a foundry where they made them, I still have two poker stands and a huge frying pan that were made at the same place, lost their tools over the years but I use the knights as doorstops, yes happy memories of days when we used to go find dad at the foundry, wouldn`t be allowed through the entrance nowadays but we used to love to see the work going on.
Happy New Year XX.

We've got a pair of massive wrought iron fire - dogs that were made for the big fireplace here which we used until we had a much safer woodburning stove put in. Honestly, you could have balanced and burnt half a tree across them, and the open fire wasn't that good at heating the room, and you couldn't go out and leave it. Your sort, Sue, with the smaller hearth gives a much better heat. Lovely!

I feel so sorry for folk that no longer have a fireplace. We have an open fire in one room and a woodburning stove in another. I just could not imagine living in a home without.
