Bumble bees

I have sorted out the bottom shed & removed a lot of “useful stuff” to the local tip (I hoard things). My son has a lot of his things in there which need to be removed before I can empty & demolish the top shed. I have made a start in there by removing a lot of sheet material such as broken down wardrobes, but I have now put a hold on the job, as I have discovered a nest of bumble bees. As they will not survive much later than September, I think I can afford to wait. I will then create a nest site for the new bees so next year they can carry on undisturbed. I have several small slabs which can be used in the top corner of the garden under the shrubbery. I will place the nest into this “building” & hope for the best

We had one in our compost heap this year which has now gone quiet and we think they have gone already, I looked up some info. and it said they are more likely to return next season to the same site, so we will dig out the compost in the autumn and make it cosy again for next spring, lets hope they do ! Are yours still active?

Still active, which is more than can be said for me. I'm sorting out the slabs to put into the corner , then they will have a good home.

It's great to see and hear of people doing their best to help the bees along, especially as they are in decline. Well done to both of you!...:o)

I took a look at the nest this afternoon, things were very quiet. I took hold of a broom handle & gave the nest a light tap....Oh the buzzing.....best left methinks.

I had another look in this morning, fairly quiet, things could be on the "up" for me. I'll give it a few more days before looking in again.

It's no big deal Freesiaperson, they have just as much right to life as I do... Perhaps more, They do not pollute, whereas I do, with my car, or bus trip, cooking etc. not to mention pollution done on my behalf, things I buy, food, clothing, holidays, working on the internet and so on...it all adds up. I'm just trying in my small way to help here & there.
Thank you for your comments.
