He as been on a low for a couple of days now, although he was suppose to be at vets next Monday, but he was going a bit wobbly on his back legs, then most of yesterday, he could only walk a few steps then sitting down before he could do a few more steps, and was meow alday, come teatime he went in his little bed, i said goodnight to him before i went to bed, but when i got up this morning he was still in same position in his bed as i’d left him lastnight, i went to put kettle on turn round and he was just outside his bed, and i thought while he’s out of his bed i’ll tidy his cushon and fleece in it, thats when i found his bed was very wet and also he had not used his litter tray, so rang vet up at 9am and i took him straight down, i new i would not be bringing him back. this is the first time in 39yrs i’ve had no pet in my house, and its horrible, everywhere i look there is things that belong to him, can move most things out of way, but the one thing i can’t move his the catflap in back door.

They say everything happens in threes, the other week was Flip & Flop, now Smokey.

So sad about Smokey, he was a fighter to the end wasn't he Carol ? I have a lump in my throat after reading your blog, you have been so kind and caring to him for a long time. Now he's free from pain and at rest. Thinking of you. x

2 Jun, 2010

Thankyou Shirley, have to agree he's in no pain now but the last couple of days i did feel for him so much. At the moment can't stop thinking about him. x

2 Jun, 2010

That's only natural and bound to happen for quite some time. There's a lot of people on here who'll have have Smokey in their thoughts tonight. Take care.

2 Jun, 2010

May I also offer my condolences, that empty feeling is unbearable, I hope the pain wont last too long, time heals, easy to say I know but it does. When I lost my first pet dear little 'Toddy' I was in a bad way but someone told me to celebrate as well as mourn, to think of how lucky I was to have had the pleasure of his company for so long. I also (after a respectable time laps) bought Barnaby who is also a gift from Heaven itself and keeps the memory of 'Toddy' alive.

2 Jun, 2010

I'm so sorry to hear this news Carol. You took such great care of Smokey and did all you could to help him. You'll miss him terribly, but in time you'll be able to look back with fondness, and remember all the happy times you had with him.

Big hug.xxxx

Like everyone else I'm so sorry for your loss Clarice. It was obvious how much you loved Smokey and I'm sure he couldn't have had a happier life...xx

3 Jun, 2010

Sorry to hear about Smokey,Clarice. :-( I understand exactly how you feel because not so long ago we lost the last, Boli, of our 5 dogs that we brought back with us from Spain. She was 15, going on 16. All of our were born in our flats in Spain & died in our flat here in the UK.

When Boli died we were without a pet in the house for more than 20 years. It seemed so strange for the first couple of months not to be greeted by their sounds on entering the house. We were always looking for them & expecting to hear them.

3 Jun, 2010

so sorry Clarice...best wishes to you, Smokey will always be with you in your heart...god bless Smokey xx

3 Jun, 2010

Thankyou for all your kind thoughts, i washed all his bedding today, and thought i was'nt to bad, but when i was folding it up to put it away could not stop myself crying, and thinking of his brother who died 5yrs ago, as they where so close and sometimes they'd fall out with each but with in seconds of world war 3 breaking out with them, they would be best of friends again and licking each other and back to being the terrible twosome.

3 Jun, 2010

Oh Clarice, a day at a time. The memories will always be with you, but I know that's no consolation when you are hurting....xxx

3 Jun, 2010

Thats exactly what our 2 do. They used to be fine until we moved here and now they fight like cat & dog, hiss at eachother then the next breath there cleaning eachother. Love 'em! lol. Hope your day has been ok Carol

3 Jun, 2010

a bit like kids carol, we know ourselves what it like as children, love and hate, they will be together again now carol xxx

3 Jun, 2010

Sandra believe it or not but the vet said as i was walking out, he'll be with Bandit , the vet have their own crematorium and the ashes get spread on their own garden, so yes they will as thats where Bandit went. Just did'nt think the vet would have remembered Bandit. I thought i was not so bad but its really hit me today more, and the house is so empty xxx.

3 Jun, 2010

yes it does feel empty carol thats why i didnt wait to long even though i said i wouldnt get another quickly, i still have angelinas ashes, i was going to burry them in new area but cant bring myself to yet ;o(, maybe another cat in time will help carol x

3 Jun, 2010

Such sad news - will be thinking of you. I know I'll have to face this with Misty and am dreading it.

3 Jun, 2010

Wagger no matter how many times you go through it, it does'nt get any easier,Sandra my telephone as not stopped ringing this last 2 nights, as soon as i put it down it rings again, I left them at vets because the 2 cats i had before was buried in my garden, admit it was over 20yrs ago,but when i sold that house i had to leave them there, and i'm sure the new owners, if they find them are not going to be bothered about them, as for the house i've nobody to talk to being on my own, think your right Sandra about another cat in time, got loads of catmeat. biscuits even got 5 frontline and 2 wormers in cupboard. see you later phone ringing again xx

3 Jun, 2010

ok carol, i had angelina cremated, so ashes will at least dissapear in ground but im just not ready, catch you later carol, take care xx

Carol - I've only just caught up with your sad news. I'm so sorry - I know what loving care you gave to your lovely Smokey in his last weeks - and all that you meant to each other all those years you were together.

I send you some hugs, and I'm thinking of you. too. xxx

5 Jun, 2010

Thankyou Barbara, for your kind words, with living on my own i'm finding it really hard to come to terms with it, before when a pet died there was another one at home to help get over it and my youngest daughter only left home a couple of years ago, but on my own the house is so quite and feels very empty, every where i go there are things belonging to him, even the backdoor as a catflap init, even on the calendar there is a vet appointment on it for tomorrow for him, bless him but you know Barbara he was very poorly the last 24hrs or so .

6 Jun, 2010

You wouldn't have wanted him to hang on like that, Carol. He wouldn't, either...

You can always chat to any of your GOY friends...I know we're quiet too, but that's not always a bad thing when we're here for you, which we are. xxx

6 Jun, 2010

Thanks Barbara, everyone on GOY as been so good and caring, even before poor Smokey died there was always someone wonting to know how he was getting on, you know when i was with him at the end he was on the vets table and i'm stroking him and he managed to but his face in my hand, i know he's not suffering anymore, but lifes not fare sometimes is it.

6 Jun, 2010

No, it's not. You must miss him dreadfully...I'm glad you felt able to be with him at the end. He obviously realised that his Mum was there for him. xxx

6 Jun, 2010

Missing him loads :(( xx

6 Jun, 2010

He's not in pain any longer - hang on to that thought, Carol. It's going to be hard for you for a long time - so look at his photo and think of the happier times you had with him, my dear. xxx

6 Jun, 2010

Thanks Barbara, got a brill photo of him with his brother who died 5yrs ago, and i keep thinking of him aswell. but like they say time is a great healer.xx

6 Jun, 2010

It's early days as yet, Carol, but it will get better...promise! xx

6 Jun, 2010

Thats true it will xx.

6 Jun, 2010

xx Got to go and take my medication. xx Chin up!

6 Jun, 2010

Oh Clarice i'm so sorry to hear the sad news about wee Smokey, i've only just seen this blog as i haven't been on for a few days. I know you'll be feeling terrible at the moment but as others have said, with time you will begin to feel better. You must remember that Smokey is no longer suffering that's the main thing.
Bless wee Smokey and you take good care of yourself. xxx

7 Jun, 2010

Thanks for your kind words Skillen, as you say he his not in pain nomore, but the house is terrible as its so quite and empty without him, i know time is a great healer, but its doing the time that hurts does'nt it.

7 Jun, 2010

I know that well Clarice, it's hard and as the time goes on you'll be able to think of all the good times and the funny little habits that he had. I know at first you just don't want to think of any of these things, and although it's hard it's worth it for the good times you've had with Smokey. xxx

7 Jun, 2010

Thats true, dont matter how many times we go through it either does it...xxx

Sincere apologies for missing this one Clarice. Having been away fro long spells and only dipping in and out due to work, I somehow lost sight of this one.

My sincere condolenses to you and hope that you are feeling a little better now although I'm sure it is still difficult at times and will continue to be so. However, the book ogf memories held in your mind will stay with you forever and for that reason, Smokey will always be close by.....

Take care of yourself
Dan

17 Jul, 2010

Thankyou Dan for a lovely message, he will always be with me, as my other pets that have died in the past, he was a very close and loving cat, but also last 6mths a very poorly one aswell, but i was with him up till the last second as he put his head in my hand. As for missing this blog i'm forever doing it as i find it so hard trying to keep up with photos and blogs etc. I have 2 new little kittens now so they do help alot coming to terms with Smokey, as they are a little handful, but being on my own i needed them as it can be very lonely living on your own. Take care aswell. Carol x
