Laurel Hedge problems

I ploanted a laural hedge about 18 months ago and it is now about 5-6ft high. My problem is that whilst the majority of the hedge looks very healthy, some of the bushes are very sparse having lost a lot of leaves. There is also a problem with the leaves going yellow and brown circular blotches appearing. Could this be a fungal disease?
