A New Guide to Alpines

This new book has just been published by Crowood Press. The writer, Micheal Mitchell, runs Slack Top Alpine Nursery in the Pennine Hills near Hebeden Bridge and has many years experience of growing my favourite group of plants.

The first part of the book explains the many ways of growing alpines in your own gardens and goes into enough detail to make it all very clear and understandable. The second part is given over to descriptions and cultural instructions for plants that Micheal recommends.

The book is aimed at those interested in starting to learn about alpines and those with some knowledge but wanting to learn more. I am the Publications Manager for the Scottish Rock Garden Club and I am always on the lookout for new books to sell to our members. Whilst I have plents of titles to satisfy the experts good books for beginners are very difficult to find. Alpines, An Essential Guide is one that I would be very happy to recommend to anyone with an interest in these plants. At rrp£19:95 it is a good buy as a present to yourself or a Christmas present for a gardening friend. You can probably find it even cheaper on-line.
