I'm missing summer...

Today my live-in handyman, that is my son, was busy in the garden and it all looked sooooooo sad. He cleared the decking that acts as a screen for a horrible manhole cover, so that he could treat it with Cuprinol, so all the pots are pushed into a corner, and part of the fence fell down because of the weight of the foliage on there and I am waiting for the ‘fence man’ to phone. Hope he does soon as it looks really awful. Then he, my son, put the cover on my hammock seat and stowed all the garden furniture in the barn for the duration. Having done that he – and me – cleared a lot of pots so they are all looking rather forlorn and very empty. More work. Then, when he was finished, he came indoors and declared that he was knocking off for the winter holiday which he expected to last until at least next spring, so I felt well and truly deflated. But then I perked up because I just remembered I could spend more time reading all the great blogs and catching up with all the splendid photos by the fabulous GOY members. So, stock the cupboards, lock the doors and take the phones off the hooks and enjoy the leisurely times to come. CHEERS ALL….

I have to admit I myself have been a bit down this week, its so silly really and I`ve been getting very annoyed at myself, whatever will I be like come January, Denise is right its the long evenings thats doing my head in as well, at least during the day I have my greenhouses to be in if I wish, its doesn`t matter about the weather then but by 6pm its too dark to see anything really.
I`ve caught up with gardeners world on i.player now, also been browsing lots of the members pics that I`ve missed through the summer months, what did I do before Goy, lol....

Hi Lincs, Kfunsters and Drc.So we are ALL going to cheer up, aren't we? despite the Euro crisis ( shut mah mouth! ) Now, that was not the right thing to mention, so let's all forget I said that; but, seriously, I haven't even got a greenhouse, so I can't while away the hours that way , and do you know none of the leaves have fallen yet in our garden, so that's out too. But still, as I said earlier I can and will spend more time on Goy and as you say, Lincs, what did we do before we found this site?
Oh, that reminds me I must look up the cookery page. Now, I hope I can remember how to cut and Paste!
Cheers!!!...X

It's nice to hear you sounding positive about the coming seasons. It's easy to feel miserable and grumble about the winter, but it has it's own joys, which we don't experience in the other seasons.
We also need time to wind down and rest - can't keep going all the time lol

Hi Hywel. Yep! I totally agree with you and am looking forward to the cosy dark evenings when we don't have to do all that watering and early nights with a good book, or, hopefully some visits to the theatre etc. but I'm not so sure about all this winding down as I have ( maniacally perhaps ) decided to learn at least a smattering of Italian in preparation for our family holiday in Tuscany next year. Bonkers, or what?...X

Not at all. It's a good idea to have something of interest to see us through the winter, but it's also a good idea to just hibernate sometimes aswell ;o)

Agreed, lol...

I hate it when it gets dark early, like Denise. But there are a FEW compensations in winter, like having a blazing log fire! It's a very good idea to learn Italian, Breda - or take up any absorbing interest. I'm getting my paints out again, and also trying to write . . . inspired by Christopher Lloyd who said the summer was for gardening, and the winter for writing.
