Tomatoes

My tomatoes have grown like tryffids this year. I measured them today and would you believe they are 8’ tall and have a huge crop. I can see lots of tomatoe soup on the way, but if anyone has any wonderful ( and easy ) ways to use them up I would be sooo grateful…

Thank you Lincslass, I didn't think of freezing them. Do you do anything with them first?

Slow dry in the oven. make pasta sauce and freeze, preserve in oil, make pizza, chutney the choices are vast.

Lincslass, that's a new one on me. I didn't know you could freeze them.

Thank you Grannyb. Those ideas are great and I will do some, but if I can freeze them that would be easiest. You see, I'm a lazy bones now....

have a fab recipe for tom & basil with Olive Oil & Garlic Crust. Brill with salad & chilled white wine...Don't know if it would freeze as it gets eaten as soon as it is cool enough.

I'm pleased to hear about your tomatoes. You can't beat home grown ones (mine are hopeless - only a few fruits, and even those are very tiny. I must be doing something wrong)

if you drop frozen toms into boiling water then quickly drain the skins slip off very easily-- great for any dish needing 'tinned toms' but sometimes if a stronger taste is needed i add a squeeze to tom puree.

Hi Pamg, yes, I have been doing that for years and like you I add some tom puree for added flavour...

Sorry your toms didn't do well this year. Maybe it was the variety? I have some good years and some poor. This year I have Tomasina. They are a delicious yellowy cherry tomato and we eat them like sweets as I leave a bowl on the table...
