The Garden Community for Garden Lovers

peace garden

This is the small garden completed in 2006 to celebrate the local community and the 50th anniversary of the local Rotary Club. Funding was contributed by the local community, local business the Lottery Commission and of course the Rotary Club. Some beautiful specimen birches fortunately have been preserved and I think it’s starting to look quite good now even in the rain..
These shots show the path home, away from the shopping centre. Unfortunately i couldn’t get far enough away to show the full majesty of the silver birches

This shot shows the compass

This is a close-up of the compass showing areas of natural beauty.

It’s quite a busy spot beyond the garden.

Rotary circle.

Close up of some of the local history tiles, the content and design of which was contributed to by local school children.

Part of the row of tiles.

Fallen birch leaves contribute to the colour of the planting.

This is the Peace Post in the Peace Circle

This is the way to the shopping centre

I think it was a nice idea to brighten up what would be a dull corner where the only sight would be the traffic and it can only improve with time. Hope you weren’t too bored:-)

Are we near Walsall here, Bornagain??? It's nice to see community projects doing what they can to cheer up what could otherwise be dull and uninspiring areas, and to make us all think in the process. This really is very nice indeed. Boring? Not at all! It's smashing.
;-)

Thanks for sharing Bornagain.........It a smashing peaceful spot with such a lot of local interest ....a great idea showing the amazing contrast between a manmade area and the beauty of nature.

Morgana, you're a bunny girl! quite a shock;-) thanks Rkalyan, yes Paul I love them too, the corner house, two gardens down from ours has a lovely one which I 'borrow':-) It was a nice idea Hywel and yes B it comes under Walsall MBC Thanks Spritz I've only recently looked at all the tiles Aa and where Rosie is mentioned in one of the tiles, it's to commemorate the murder of a young girl in B'ham, she came from Aldridge, Her parents started a charity in her name:-)

Thanks for showing the pictures and offering the descriptions. It seems a lovely area, good for a walk, a lunch time sit and chat, and I would just love to nose through all those tiles to read each one~what a great idea to beautify an area and celebrate the community! Wonderful pictures~ Lisa :)

Wouldn't it be wonderful if every single town in the world could have a meaningful Peace Circle with a Peace Pole ....

23 Nov, 2009

Yes Terry it would

Three cheers for Walsall Council, what a nice place to 'people watch' see the world go by. Very tidy, no litter. My nearest City also does a good job creating such places but they never maintain it and hence it looks disgusting.

23 Nov, 2009

Heron, I'm not sure Walsall MBC had much to do with this, although I suppose they donated the land?? Yes I suppose Aldridge is virtually litter free. Sometimes when the bus stop is full of our local Aldridge Comp pupils, I notice most put their litter in the bin provided, does your heart good:-) Hi Terry, meaningful being the operative word:-) hope all is well with you? Giorgio? Thanks again for all your kind comments:-)

Very interesting blog, smashing pics, The Rotary do a lot of good dont they? used to love Santa on his sleigh, made Christmas for us and the children.

25 Nov, 2009

They used to do that here too Dd, but they only do it in the 'village' shopping square now. We've probably grown too sophisticated now:-( It used to be quite exciting at Christmas time to see the lit up sleigh and hear the Christmas music, I loved it, never mind the children:-))
