BA'S BIRTHDAY SURPRISE!!!

I woke up this morning to a blanket of snow and naturally shot off to get my camera. Now what I am going to tell you, although unbelievable, is true. I opened the back door, still in pj’s etc, camera in hand ….and was stopped in my tracks. A hen blackbird flew down to the trellis (about 10 feet away from me) fixed me with her lovely eyes and started to sing at me; opening her little wings for all the World like one of those Victorian automatons. I was mesmerised. She never took her eyes off me ….I shot inside for food and started scattering mealworm suet about three feet from me, fearing to throw it further in case my arm movement scared her. She immediately flew down and started eating, looking up at me fearlessly. I have never been so close to a blackbird, it was almost as if she were tame. I felt like one of those Disney heroines. It wouldn’t have surprised me if blue birds had flown down and twined flowers in my hair lol. I have never in my life experienced anything like it.
In the first pic, this male blackbird is sitting on the trellis she sat on. In the bottom pic you can see her footprints in the snow and where I threw the suet pellets. Am I making too much of this experience? You had to be there:o)

Now it’s written down it doesn’t sound like much happened but, it really was magical SO I WON’T MOAN ABOUT THE FLIPPIN’SNOW!!!!:o))))

Thats a smashing experience, I thought of Snow White but she had sunshine lol, can't see Mrs Blackbird helping with the housework but she'll be good for gardening, I have to be careful as they come onto the patio, the cats are always watching through the window and if outside will hide behind my pots ready to pounce....
You've had a lot of snow, it tried here without success thank goodness but its s'posed to be spreading our way, I really won't mind if we miss out.....
Happy Birthday Ba, have a good one xx..

Happy Birthday BA but i know that even if i wrote out the whole of the song it would be nothing like as special [or as tuneful] as the blackbird singing for you!

Today I awoke to one foot (30cm) of snow. I went out to clear a space to put bird food and put my foot down a big hole at the side of the path. Went face first in snow and called myself all sorts of silly b****r lol. I'd dug out a viburnum a few weeks ago and put my lovely new pieris pink delight, a-dangle with flowers in the hole, not planted though, just to see how it looked. Hope it's ok and I haven't broken any branches. The snow was so deep there I never saw it. I hope none of the wildlife have started breeding yet following those three lovely days a while back. I have put together my new birdtable, but they aren't using it yet, contrary birds:-))

Now thats typical Ba, worrying about the plants and insulting yourself, I hope you are ok, the birds are contrary sometimes, although I s'pose its self-preservation really and they keep an eye on new things for a while to make sure it safe for them, I know in my garden they'll take a while to try new feeders..

Lol Lincs, after the fall I cleared a narrow path about 10 feet long and put lots of seed and suet pellets down. I even had a visit from a wagtail, never had one before, they must all be desperate:-)
