MALVERN PART 1 (Warning: MAY INCLUDE GEUMS)

As you all know, I’m MD of B.A. Autos and unfortunately the models I hired for the photoshoot were very stroppy and refused to strip or drape across bonnet:-(

Rather like these anemones.

Some amazing poppies.

Now you’re talking…geums:-)

The acer is A. Shirazz…what a beauty, I want one:-) The lupin flowers were huge on short dumpy plants…not sure about them.

Orchids for those who like them.

Some amazing delphiniums

The Acer is Negundo Flamingo it looked fantastic with the delphiniums.

The white delphinium suffused with pink is Darling Sue. I was going to buy one, but they were very expensive for a tiny almost plug size plant. May find them elsewhere.

Aaaaah more geums. East Of Eden Stand a nursery in Carlisle. They don’t appear to have a website, but I have the email if you want, he said they do mail order. These were all bred by Roger Proud. He said toffee apple would be available in the autumn:-)

Now for some Clems

I loved this combo and now also love C. Broughton Star, but can’t help thinking they may flower at different times? They were all lovely and I have never had such large flowers on mine. They were all rather expensive.

These Clematis are on Taylors stand and much cheaper than the others, most £8! I don’t think there would have been room in the car, but I was tempted. no idea where I’d put them though:-)

Rather nice…elegant.

Daylily and I were taken to the show by Stroller (one of the stroppy models)and her OH the other one was Willinilli. Aren’t gardeners lovely:-) My next blog will include my favourite exhibit, Strollers lovely garden and strangely lovely natures enhanced sculptures…hope I’ve whetted your appetite:-)

Nearly forgot..new geums

Thanks Daylily, Poppylover, Sticki, Stroller and Willinilli for a lovely time and good laugh. (Alphabetic order:-)

Lovely Blog..you lot seemed to have had a great time..shame about the models!

14 May, 2012

Oh Ba if only I had realised you were the MD, I'm so disappointed and there was I just planning a lovely picnic going out in that car with all of us! We didn't even get to sit in it!
I just loved that picture you took of the toffee apples and the acers it's so graceful and delicate. Beautiful colours together.
Those clems are gorgeous and I love that delicate little display with the soloman's seal.
I never saw the orchids :-( just shows you can't take it all in! Next time I shall have to stay over and spend two days!

14 May, 2012

Hi BA, great blog and so glad you all had fun to,
love the acers , Delphiniums and Geums, all so pretty, enjoy your new plants to :o))

14 May, 2012

What a lot of Geums ... and other plants. Some of those displays were beautiful.

14 May, 2012

Some wonderful pictures Ba especially the clematis, but I think my heart went to that beautiful Acer `Negundo Flamingo` and the white Delphinium. I do think, however, that your choice of models was rather wide of the mark, they seemed to be rather stiff necked and disinterested not at all the type I would have chosen.
Never mind it was a great day, hope you`ve got all those Geums settled in.

14 May, 2012

What's the name of the apricot double- flowered Geum please? I love it! On my wish list if you have its name please, Ba.

By the way, my 'Broughton Star' is just coming into bloom now. It's always later than other montanas.

I would have loved Malvern. (sigh)...maybe the autumn show?

P.S. I want those Delphiniums - but that Nursery is SOOO expensive. Another deep, deep sigh...

14 May, 2012

Thanks Stripes and Scotcat, wouldn't a GOY convention be great:-)

14 May, 2012

Bloomer, we certainly missed your magnificence lol:-))

14 May, 2012

Thanks Tt we had a good laugh...mainly at my expense lol:-)

14 May, 2012

Pixi, I'll steer clear of that agency in future:-)

14 May, 2012

Sticki, wait 'til you see part two!.....Why didn't you mention you wanted a ride? I had to sell it at a loss I'm afraid....2nd rate models didn't help:-(

14 May, 2012

Thanks Sandra, these pics are mostly from the floral marquee (my favourite) but on part 2 (when finished)you can see my fave exhibit and Strollers lovely garden:-)

14 May, 2012

Thanks Hywel, so much to see that we missed loads too:-)

14 May, 2012

I haven't planted the geums yet Stroller, not sure what they like. Will have to email Roger Proud (breeder) and order the toffee apples too. There are two acers on here I want now, Shirazz and flamingo:-)

14 May, 2012

Hi spritz, which is the apricot double...count the pics. Was it on the East Of Eden stand? Did I buy one? I want Broughton Star too, does it go mad like other montanas? I'm going to google those delpihiniums see if I can get some cheaper...and bigger:-)

14 May, 2012

Lovely Ba........brilliant photo's of a brilliant day Thanks xxx

14 May, 2012

Great blog BA. Love those clematis best I think, and the Geums are lovely. Glad you had a lovely time, wish I had been there too.

14 May, 2012

Hello Pam \0/ what's your excuse for not coming huh? You could have seen me making a fool of myself breaking forks and spilling tea. Look what you missed:-)

14 May, 2012

Thanks Cinders, Maybe we'll all meet up one day on a GOY outing;-)

14 May, 2012

The second 'new Geum' Ba.

By the way, if I give in to my URGE to get three pink Delphiniums from 'that' Nursery (in your blog!) I shall blame you. :-b (Sticks tongue out rudely...)

14 May, 2012

Now now Spritz...calm down...calm down...(in scouse accent) The new geum is El Wano, that's what it looks like on the handwritten label any way. She also looks upwards:-) I'm going to look for an alternative source for my delphinium, hope they don't own them or we're stuck:-)

14 May, 2012

It looked such fun Ba but its a busy few weeks.......

14 May, 2012

Well if you payed your models BA instead of throwing tea over them they might be more forthcoming with the nudity! Lol.
Can B.A Autos look out for another car like that but in red & yellow, It would make a great Noddy car for our pub crawl.
Great Blog Love all your photos & the Geums you bought are beautiful :-)

14 May, 2012

Wow I love the Delphiniums and the size of the blooms on the Clematis is amazing.
Really enjoyed seeing your pics and pleased you all had a good time...

14 May, 2012

14 May, 2012

Maybe another time Pam:-)

14 May, 2012

Willi, you're a genius! good thinking...perhaps a paint job? you any good at painting? Glad you like the geums:-)

14 May, 2012

Thanks Lincslass we really ought to fix up that GOY convention:-)

14 May, 2012

Wow Bik, 40 clematis....Taylor's clems were all lovely and most cost about £8 which was a bargain, less than half the price of other clems. They were all well grown and the flowers were fantastic. Have you put any pics on of your clems?:-)

14 May, 2012

14 May, 2012

14 May, 2012

Wonderful photos - you must have had such a great time. The clematis display is stunning as are the geums of course!!!

14 May, 2012

You should have gone to Specsavers, Ba - Mr Google says there isn't one called that. Try again please!

14 May, 2012

I might put in a bid for a noddy car Ba and WN ~ oh is that now BAWN fantasy cars??

14 May, 2012

Thanks Wildrose, do your clems ever look like that?:-)

15 May, 2012

Spritz, you should know by now that I am never wrong ahem and Mr Google is an idiot. Geum El Wano is NEW and only known to the cognoscenti ahem. We GOYers are at the forefrontof a geum breakthrough:-) Now Here is the email for breeder Roger Proud. I wonder if he has a catalogue? I must contact him...eeek, you do it first:-)
RogerEastofEden@hotmail.com
I've double checked capitals etc from his card. I think this is his first time as exhibitor here, I may be wrong though. Do you want his phone number? I've found another one I want too, google this www.geumcollection.co.uk/geums.html On the right of the page you'll see Geum Dawn..drool. Can't figure out how to buy them though lol, I'm such a technophobe. If you do, let me know lol I really really want it:-)

15 May, 2012

Sticki, have a nice lie down lol:-))

15 May, 2012

Lol Sticki, just got it:-) Now you know I don't take on partners, only employees:-)

15 May, 2012

oh of course, sorry i forgot Ma'am!

15 May, 2012

Don't worry...your job is safe:-)

15 May, 2012

thank you Ma'am

I'll be polishing the tyres next Ma'am if thats alright?

15 May, 2012

I don't think they actually sell them Ba. It's the National Collection holders' website...some of them are amazing, aren't they. I specially like 'Pink Frills'.

No sign of the elusive 'El Wano'. Does it really exist, I ask myself?

15 May, 2012

Dont know that I'd want to be BAs partner Sticki, All the profits would go down her throat!!! Lol.

15 May, 2012

well she looks pretty slim on it!!

15 May, 2012

Didnt mean food, Lol

15 May, 2012

oh ok!!!

I dont think she was looking for a partner in the end ~ it turns out!!!!
:-(

15 May, 2012

Hey Willi, I thought Sticki was the alcoholic according to Steve?...The baton has been handed on Sticki lol...and I'm stuck with it now:-)

15 May, 2012

Spritz you coward, email Roger Proud re El Wano...let me know what happens lol...then I'll email him re toffee apples:-)

15 May, 2012

Sticki, Willi wants you to do a paint job don't forget:-)

15 May, 2012

looks like it Ba ~ but it wasnt me that handed it on!!

15 May, 2012

a paint job?????

15 May, 2012

On the car for the Noddy walk:-)

15 May, 2012

oh i see, ok, spray paint, graffitti or hand painted?

15 May, 2012

On a car of this magnificence...hand painting I think:-)

16 May, 2012

oh no!! :-(

oh i know i could do it quick with a very large brush???

16 May, 2012

You'll ruin it Sticki...I'm taking you off painting duties:-)

16 May, 2012

ok then!!!!!!!!! :-))))

i will have a tea BREAK instead!!!

16 May, 2012

No way - I'm not paying oodles of money for the carriage of ONE plant! I'm saving my pennies for my posh Delphiniums!

16 May, 2012

Spritz, you've turned your back on the lovely unassuming geums:-( I've turned your head with those pics of posh delphs...you'll go to the bad my girl:-)

17 May, 2012

They're not tall enough, that's the reason. I do have a number of them dotted around the garden!

17 May, 2012

Have you found out where to buy D.Darling Susan yet?:-)

17 May, 2012

I had this nice email from Roger Proud who bred the lovely geums. I had asked him how to order Geum Toffee Apples etc and what conditions the plants I had bought from him prefer. He doesn't have a website as yet....
"But you can inform your fellow plant lovers that i am currently in the process of constructing a website and hope to have it up and running in the next few weeks with a full list of Geums, most of which should be available for mail order in september including Toffee Apples.
I find that most of the geums i have bred and raised are tolerant of most conditions including shade, and will grow in any soil that's not too dry.
Oh and i hope to have a proper labelling system up in the near future also."
He really does have some lovely geums and like Vicky1 (Plantagogo) he would like to become a GOY member
when he has time. It's handy having experts on here isn't it:-)

18 May, 2012

Well done for your perseverance in getting in touch,Ba..and nice that he answered you..he would be more than welcome on Goy....by the way...I was given a small one by my neighbour, two years ago,and it hardly grew at all...I was about to throw it out...and this week,it has two bright orange flowers on ! :o)...must have knew what I was thinking..Lol.

18 May, 2012

Lol, Sometimes the stick wins over the carrot bloomer:-)

18 May, 2012

Exactly,Ba..:o)

18 May, 2012

Good for you, Ba, maybe he'll own up and tell us about the elusive 'El Wano'!

By the way, my urge got too strong, and I now own three Delphiniums which should have pink flowers! Look on the Blackmore and Langdon website - I chose 'Cymbeline'. I can't wait to see them in bloom! :-D)

18 May, 2012

Spritz...I've had look on Blackmore and Langdon and can't find Cymbeline! are you sure it's the right website lol? One of us is going doolally! Now Roger Proud has bred G. El Wano and that's why you can't find it anywhere...he hasn't got a website yet...once he has his website up and running in a few weeks, you'll be able to find it, but you'll have to wait until September to own some. In the meantime I can report to you on length of flowering time etc. She's looking lovely at the moment and, as they like anywhere that's not too dry, I assume rivale is one of the parents although she does look up as well as nod:-)

19 May, 2012

That's strange, Ba...I picked three pink Delphiniums off their website, and 'Cymbeline' was one of them. I was lucky they still had three large pots left! :-))

I don't think they had any 'Darling Susan' left at all - not even any small ones. I got a small 'Titania' for a friend.

20 May, 2012

Wish I'd bought Darling Sue at Malvern now:-( But I won't give up! You must have bought the last of Cymbeline Spritz...large pots too...I want large pots of Sue:-)

20 May, 2012

They'll only send small pots by mail order, Ba. You have to collect the big ones from the Nursery. They have plenty of small pots - I saw them! The glasshouse is a whole acre! Full of little Delphiniums!!! :-))

21 May, 2012

You live by them?? typical!:-( Anyway, you've got to look at my new blog, only 3 pics, showing my triple flowered geum flower on Totally Tangerine. It's beautiful, unfortunately most of the flowers on it are just doubles. Anyway you'll be jealous and want to swap your delphiniums for it lol:-)

22 May, 2012

No, the nursery is way up the county, not near us at all. We made a detour on the way back from a trip OH had to make. At least it was a good consolation prize!

Sorry I haven't posted a photo of my white Geum yet - I'll do it tomorrow. I need to use my laptop to post photos.

24 May, 2012

Put Mrs Moore on too please:-)

25 May, 2012

Another great blog, and some beautiful plants BA.....

29 Jun, 2012

Thanks Dotty, even though we missed the show gardens we still found a lot to see. That Stroller is nearly as bad as me at finding her way around...we really needed a guide lol:-)

30 Jun, 2012

Ha ha good job I was not with you, OH says I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag!! cheeky hound!!

1 Jul, 2012

We'd probably not have found the floral marquee even then :-)

2 Jul, 2012

Sorry to take so long in replying to this but i have finally managed to get my website up and running... and yes El Wano really does exsist. Along with 47 other new varieties of Geum most of which can be found here.
