FOURSEASONS GARDEN, WALSALL, July 25th 2010

This is my second visit blog to the wonderful Fourseasons Garden in Walsall. I wondered if it would look much different from my first visit in May ….and it did!

This acer caught my eye immediately, I think it may be the painted nails acer tsuma-gaki, but as I have never seen one I’ve no idea really so if anybody recognises it, do let me know..

Massive gunnera

Gunnera flower, I’ve never seen one before.

There are many paths in this garden, this one leads to the summerhouse and is enlivened by some pretty day lilies.

Turn left at the summerhouse along this shady path, my foxgloves have almost finished, but not so these lovelies.

There really are so many little paths that you soon lose your bearings, I’ve no idea where I am now but my eye was attracted to the amazing colour combination, at the right of the bridge, of this laurel aucuba picturata, and the helenium which I am guessing may be sahins early anyone know???? because I am totally in love…sigh

Here is a little stream, beautifully landscaped. It is in the centre of the pic, but not easy to see on this photo. The geranium, I am certain, is rozanne which must surely be one of the best. The second photo is to the right of the stream which you can just see on the left. The white agapanthus really stand out here.

More paths……

Here is a path you don’t want to go down!!!!!

I found this large bottomed deer hiding from it

This is the engine room. This is where everything is grown and nurtured. Everything looks so pretty and neat in here and the sweet peas are in fine form.

This is a lovely tree and I would love to know its name..anyone? Don’t normally like conifers and their ilk much, but this is one of a few exceptions. What’s that behind it?

How lovely is this?…it’s just agapanthus, cosmos and phlox, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. The deep blue agapanthus is midnight blue and it’s depth is stunning against the soft pink and fabulous feathery leaves of the tall cosmos.

Does anyone know what this lovely little tree with the peeling bark is? I’m pretty ignorant about trees.

Pretty little golden yew.

Stately cardoon.

Lovely lily

And finally for those who love bedding, here is as stunning a display as you could wish for

This garden is well worth a visit and has given me so many ideas of what can be achieved in a much smaller space. If you enjoyed seeing this garden and haven’t seen my Fourseasons spring visit blog, please do have a look. Marie and Tony Newton are the proud owners (and workers) of this amazing garden and are members of Goy so if you would like to see more of their garden you could look at their fourseasons home page on Goy. If you can visit, even better, you won’t be disappointed.

Hi Louise, everything is so tightly packed in that there is no room for labels, so I've no idea what it called and it was a lovely colour. I've never liked the other one before, but it looked great in this setting, bit like Spritz's poppy pattys plum lol. I'll pm fourseasons and ask. I'd love to know which helenium it is too, believe it or not I've never grown them , but have ordered 3 sahins early (bare root) from Van Meuwen. I hope they are as beautiful as these. Just noticed...how sunny you are!:-)

What a wonderful garden would love to get lost wandering down those paths, the colours and plants are amazing I had to smile at the picture of the topairy Large Bottomed Deer I though it looked like a huge Snail. Thanks for showing us all the beautiful pictures, Marie and Tony should be congratulated on such a fantastic garden;0))

Hi Pansy, it's only (I should be so lucky) a third of an acre, but I do get lost as there are so many different bits and paths. They do have pieces of humorous topiary scattered around the garden to raise a smile:-)

Thanks Bloomer, I've pm'd Marie in the hope she will answer questions. Don't think it will be today as her garden is open today as well! They've raised a fortune for charity:-)

Hi Cristina, it's in Walsall in the West Midlands. Did you see my May blog about it/ it has more info on it, it's one third of an acre and has over 200 acers! all the shrubs and trees are so densely planted and pruned they are semi bonsai! :-)

26 Jul, 2010

Hi Clarice, have you ever been to the garden? I'm lucky as it's only a short bus ride for me (no car) it looks so different from my May visit, I don't know how they do it:-)

Hi Louise, I've had a reply from Fourseasons: the day lily is pink damask:-)
Izzy, this garden is open again August 21 and 22, hope you can make it:-)
The lovely conifer type tree is I'm informed, taxus dovastonia (I'm going to google it) and the peeling bark tree is of course acer griseum. I've never seen one before and didn't recognise it as an acer 8~/ The helenium is sahins early so I got one right and I've got 3 bare roots coming yay! :-)

It's an amazing garden Bornagain. The planting is so compact. I wish I lived near enough to visit. Your photos are marvellous in place of a visit.
