bonkers wildlife pond

Began last week inspired by two consecutive days of sunshine.
Found this site and became engrossed in others tales their talents and sense of humour. Ignoring all practical advice leapt into garden determined to dig for victory.
Pond here me thinks just a small one no need for string lines marking out its only a hole. the ceremonial first spit would be removed with gusto.
Bringing my spade down expecting to remove half the pond in one go – as we men do- my progress and the whole of the right side of my body was instantly halted.I had hit what I later discovered to be part of the foundations of a demolished outhouse.
Ok then sledge hammer break up dig whats this? rock after rock brick tiles guttering glass etc the whole thing had been knocked down years ago and buried! no chance of putting liner on this so keep digging.now 2 feet down ! 18’ long and 12’ across ihave enough rock to rebuild Hadrians wall top soil a 30’ mole would envy and two ducks getting more than a little fed up theres still no water in the thing . Rooks overhead seem to be laughing at least the collared doves sound impressed – coo .Will post photos soon . Bonkers

I just hope when your pond is finished to your satisfaction, someone doesn't come along and say "I really wanted it over the other side of the garden" :-)

Thanks for supportive comments appreciate them inherited a truly overgrown garden and torn between tidying which it needs and disturbing the wide range of wild life that love it.Friends think this all too much like hard work and leave shaking their heads saying Im bonkers hence the tag.
Andrew the pond has almost beome the garden so nowhere to move it to even if I could!

hey there!! welcome!! i take it u've had a peek at my piccies so can appreciate the uphill struggle we faced to restore some order to our garden! Funnily enough all our friends did a disappearing act on us when all the hard work needed doing but now they flood around in hope of free honey, eggs and veggies admiring the place saying we're sooo lucky as if the garden just appeared with no effort at all!! good luck with ur pond!! I'd come and help i'm a whizz on the mini digger but it sounds like u've got it under control!!
