This was an included trip on our recent holiday with Carole and Harry..we paid a little extra to go on a guided tour around the surrounding area, and learnt much more about the naval history of Portsmouth..so interesting..
Anyway, here we go on our own walking tour, after a nice lunch on the Wharf..

This is HMS Warrior..the first armour plated, iron hulled ship to be built with both steam power and sails,in 1860..short lived in service, owing to rapid development in naval technology..It was assigned to RN torpedo training in 1904,and now a museum ship, after restoration..

Of course,,this is the most famous ship in Portsmouth, and this photo shows it as it was before they took the masts down for restoration..

..and as it is now..

It wasn’t us that were listing :o)

Hello Admiral Nelson..

We would have liked to go into the newly built Mary Rose museum, but it doesn’t open till the end of May..should be a very interesting experience….and at £15 per person,I should hope so !
Our spirits soon lifted, when we spotted all these Marine Commando’s having a little break..:o) Me,being the cheekier of the two,,asked if we could have a photo taken with them..but Carole didn’t take much persuading ! Lol..They seemed happy enough to pose with us..:o) Just doing our bit to support our lads, you understand Lol.

..and a close up,in case you want a better look :o)

Somehow,I don’t think we will be pasted on their locker doors :o)
We had a lovely day,in the sunshine..so warm and sunny..just chilling out later,on Gunwharf quay..

Hope you enjoyed the visit with us..

Well Bloomer so this is what you and Carole get up to when your OH`s turn their backs, but I can only say that I do admire your taste in men and the ships are not bad either.

How lovely Sandra. I am quite envious too, great pictures of you and Carole with the marines. Haven't visited there for many years, brings back a few distant memories, having lived in Southampton area it was 'just down the road' so to speak.

Very handsome crew and of course you have to support them, they look happy to pose with you.
We visited Victory many moons ago, it was fascinating, I'd love to see the Mary Rose Museum as well. Its lovely in that area, we used to visit when my brother was stationed around there whilst in RAF but he settled near Scarborough when retired so of course we end up in the opposite direction now, lol..
Thanks for sharing Sandra grand trip and the weather was good to you...

What a lovely bunch of lads! nice work girls! Lol!

4 May, 2013

I'm sure the boys will be telling their fellow marines all about you two ;)
Looks like you had fun!

We did have a great day, didn't we Carole? and tell Harry the only pic of him and Russell,is with Baden Powell, looking out to Brownsea Island in Poole! Lol...maybe another time,we will have to look for a bevy of ladies..we don't want them sulking :o)
........
Thanks Terra,we could have stayed a lot longer,as there was so much to see in the area..apart from the Marines :o)...
........
Thanks Cinders..glad it brought some nostalgic memories back for you..I suppose when you live in the area, you tend to take it for granted,a bit like us with our surroundings...still lots to see ,and five days goes so quickly...
...........
Thanks Lulu..I guess they would be a bit more discerning than to have us two on their locker doors :o)) ..now 50 years ago,we might have been in with a chance! ..not! lol.
.......
Thanks Sue..it's a long time since we were on the Victory too..almost 38 years..our first holiday after we were married, and stayed in Southsea..the area looks so different now,but some great facilities..we loved it..nice that the History of it is just as popular, that will never change...
..........
Cheers Karen..someone had to do it,might as well be us :o) Lol.
.......
i can just hear the comments,Scottish.."there were these two brazen hussies..muscling in on our space " ! Lol.

So pleased you had a great day out in Pompey ... it's not far from us and we do sometimes go for a day out ... lots to see as you well know now! Sarah went to The Mary Rose on a Junior School trip years ago ... she's never forgotten the rank smell of it ... lol! Did you have a bite to eat at Gunwharf Quay? You could have just gone to the Recruitment Office ... you didn't have to approach all those lovely lads! ... Oh yes, exactly where was your right hand when the pic was being taken? ... :o)))

4 May, 2013

It's a shame we couldn't have met up ,Shirley, but we didn't know how much free time we would have there..and then again, there wasn't really room for you to squash on that seat as well...and,you naughty girl..! he had an itch,so it looks like I scratched the right spot !! Lol.
We ate before we went to Gunwharf Quay,as that was our last visit, before rejoining the coach..it was a Maritime Museum..just the place for old relics :o)) x

4 May, 2013

You cheeky pair!! LOL, I did laugh at you sitting with those hunks. So glad you had a great time, hope you left those guys behind?

4 May, 2013

Hiya,G.mage..good to have a bit of fun :o) We did have a few spare seats on the coach...what a shame we didn't think of that..we wouldn't have reported them for going AWOL ! Lol.

4 May, 2013

Well, easy to understand why you managed to get yourselves well into that crowd of gorgeous males. You might not be on their locker doors but I bet they're on yours now...

4 May, 2013

Well, just now and then there are better things to look at than flowers!!!
I think you squeezed in next to a particularly attractive marine Sandra!!!
Follow that!

4 May, 2013

Well she would wouldnt she !, always quick off the mark! but I was quite contented with my handsome neighbour lol

4 May, 2013

LOL nice ships BUT what a great bunch of happy handsome Marines.....I bet you made their day too! you looked right cosy there Bloomer ;o)

4 May, 2013

If you don't ask,you don't get,Sue..! :o) no locker, but good as my desktop pic Lol.
.........
Definitely,Chris...and all for Goyers benefit of course.just to bridge the gap between spring and summer flowers..! Lol.He was a bit dishy, wasn't he ?..and glad you weren't complaining either,Carole..very embarrassing though, when Harry and Russell had to drag you away..:o))) x
.......
Thanks Neellan..just doing our bit for public relations :o)
Let's hope they all keep looking so happy, during their chosen career..we watched a programme on 'Coast' recently, which showed how they trained at night, scaling cliffs in the dark...so scary..but makes you proud they want to do it on our behalf...

Well what can I say ! no wonder you pair keep making plans for these away days trips its all in the open now , you little tinkers LOL ... I'm glad you had such a lovely time I'm envious ,why is it that those hunky marines have never been in dock when I've been setting off on the ferry from Portsmouth ,it's not fair ! x

17 May, 2013

Lol,Amy..you can come with us next time, and we will see if we can remedy that...but you will have to stand in line ! :o) We had a great time, and good weather too..just a memory now,but some good ones, of a lovely holiday..x

18 May, 2013

Flippin eck Bloomer, couldn't you get any closer to that handsome young man? I don't know if it's my eyes, but on that close-up you appear to have accidentally placed your leg over his ..... strumpet! No I'm not jealous >:-[
On a more serious note, how beautiful Victory looks close up, such lovely decoration:-))

18 May, 2013

Lol,Ba..it does look a bit like that, doesn't it? trust you to think I was in Strumpet mode..:o) Much better than your visit to Portsmouth,to visit a toxic waste site !! ha ha...so no,I'm not jealous either..ha ha..and I agree,Victory has a certain charm of it's own..as did my young man !. which reminds me of a sketch with Harry Enfield, dressed as an over enthusiastic mature lady :o))

18 May, 2013

I wonder who he modelled her on lol?:-))

19 May, 2013

Your guess is as good as mine,Ba..:o))
