Another of our visits, whilst we were on holiday,recently..This is the tiny village of Crantock, once the site of the ancient city of Langorroc..long since buried by a great sandstorm……The parish name came from the 6th century
saint..Carantoc..which became a major centre of religious learning in Cornwall, until it suffered during the Disssolution,by HenryV111…
Rebuilt by the Normans, and fully restored in the 20 th century..it has some of the finest woodcarvings in the West country..a lot done by a lady in 1905…very unusual at that time…..sadly,it was too dark inside to take photo’s,so only managed the outside..

A pretty thatched cottage…

There is only a village store, small craft shop,Gallery, tea garden and restaurant..but three pubs ! ..we had no problem finding the tearoom..well,it was only 10.30am..first customers of the day .:o)..gets so busy later on,as there is a beautiful steep walk to the beach..we didn’t go there, this time,as we were catching the next hourly bus.

I loved this stone seating area, surrounded by the wild Valerian flowers..

Large areas of the parish are under the ownership of the National trust..
Just adding more photo’s of Mevagissey..for Sanbaz..another place we love, where we had the best weather of the week..so warm and sunny..A lot of you will remember a lovely painting done by Sanbaz, last year, when she visited..look at that blue sky..!

..and this is what it was like in Newquay, when we got back ..Thick fog,or sea fret..! The beach and sea is across that road somewhere …it stayed the rest of the day..Our driver didn’t ever remember it so bad at this time of year…and had taken us to Fistral beach, where the surfers go..the highest point of the area…to take in the spectacular views across the bay ..some view !

Glad to say it had cleared by the next day..our last..:o)

Looks lovely!
Shame about it being too dark inside for pics.

It is a pretty little place,Lil,so quaint..and it was a shame..it took ages for us to get adjusted to the darkness..so no chance of any pics..I could have just pointed the camera,I suppose, and hoped for the best :o)

Some nice memories for you too,Cinders..if only we had enjoyed some warm sunshine..like the rest of the country..it was really cold,so got on the next bus to Perranporth..even colder by the sea..and windy..spent a lot of time on buses that day .:o)

Its brought back some memories for me as well, we visited lots of places when we visited, unfortunately my bro was posted to the lake district so we haven`t been back, I`ve informed him upstairs that I want to go back before I peg out, lol.
Lovely pics, I do so like your trips Sandra, I`m an avid fan of knowing the history as well and you always give fascinating facts as well...
Btw, I have my moniker on the lottery, Pleeeeeze.

7 Jun, 2012

Thank you,Sue..you are very kind..I like to know about the history of all the places we visit ...makes it more interesting for me as well..
I hope you manage to get back there, nothing seems to change much, that's why I like it...and about the lottery..you are more likey to get a share,as we don't do it anymore..so that's two less to bother about :o)

It is like stepping back in time when you visit Crantock isn't it? I am so glad that you had a lovely time and your photographs are beautiful. What a difference a clear blue sky makes- Mevagissey looks stunning.

10 Jun, 2012

It is,Wildrose..thanks for liking the pics..you see what I meant when I mentioned the sea fret to you,at Newquay?
Just glad we saw the sun at some point..one day, really !

11 Jun, 2012

Ohhh. Sandra, am off to Cornwall next week, to our favourite place ever (well, besides home). Going to Lamorna, just the other side of Penzance. We stay in a converted barn (again home from home) and just love the area. Will take some pics and post them when we get back.Jxx

16 Jun, 2012

I'm still up,Jane :o) I know Penzance,but I haven't heard of Lamorna..that will be good to see your pics..and I love Mousehole..such a pretty place .do you visit there ?

16 Jun, 2012

I love Mousehole. It wouldn't be a holiday without at least one meal at The Ship Inn. Lamorna is just a bit futher round from Mousehole. Can't wait. Jx

17 Jun, 2012

Ah,I've got my bearings now,Jane..but will bear that in mind,if we are down that way again..:o)

17 Jun, 2012

One of the nicest pubs we found is at Logans Rock. Just a bit futher round again from Lamorna. Very pretty and good food. You have to pass the Merry Maidens to get to it. These are 7 standing stones, which are meant to be young girls who danced on the sabbath and got turned to stone for being so sinful. There is another taller stone, that is the piper who led them astray! Jx

17 Jun, 2012

I love hearing about all the legends,so interesting...I could have been the one next to the piper ! Lol..will PM you tomorrow..been a busy day...hope your craft stall went well at Saltaire..not been there for a long time :o) x

17 Jun, 2012

Thank you Bloomer. Have just done 3 days of markets back to back. Am soooooo tired. BUT, got a bit more in the kitty for some more plants :)))))))) Jx
