This was the last place we visited, some 497 metres above sea level, and a wonderful viewing point of the Northern coastline, straits of El Rio,and Graciosa Island.
It was used originally,as a lookout point for marauding pirates, and in 1889,a small fortress and gun battery were built inside, when Spain was at war with USA,over Cuba.
In 1973,it was then transformed by Cesar Manrique, who I spoke about in my first blog of the island, after visiting his underground home and grotto.
He removed the guns, etc, and designed it for more peaceful purposes.
Arriving at the entrance..and a long white tunnel with various displays and plants ,takes you into the viewing area..

We certainly weren’t prepared for these views,as they weren’t visible on the journey from the road..
This is Isla Graciosa..

and a close up..

The straits of El Rio..

What a drop ! I can assure you,I didn’t go down there to look over the edge !

I did venture outside, but it was so windy..

Back inside to my comfort zone..! OH was much braver..he is on the right of the pic..looking for pirates,I think !

Time to go..and if you fancy living here, out in the middle of nowhere..you are just a bit too late..it was sold recently for 4 million Pounds..a snip ! :o)

We had a lovely day..and saw so much in a short time..
hope you enjoyed the visit,as much as we did..

You certainly found places that we have never seen on our trips around and about in Lanzagrote (how do you like that instead of Lanzarote ?)
Lovely pics Bloomer , such a wild place !

I thought some of the views were taken out of a plane window until I clocked the railing. Amazing, thanks for posting this.

Lol,Driad..we hadn't heard of this place either..but it was on the itinerary along with the house of Cesar Manrique, and the Aloe vera farm..but it would be easy enough with a hire car,or a trip from one of the local tours.
we didn't find Lanzarote ,grotty at all,but it's a while since we were last there, and not high season..so maybe it's changed..I would go back sometime, but maybe not to Puerto del Carmen..probably Los Pocillos,or Teguise ..thank you, pleased you enjoyed it.:o)

Thank you,Sheilar..it was certainly different..my kind of thing .:o)

Thanks Paul..the stone walls are great, aren't they ? No lack of material there ,to build them !:o)

Thank you,Severnside..It does look like an aerial view at first, doesn't it ? its always nice to see and hear the history of a place..our tour guide was brilliant, and so informative, which makes or breaks it,I think....

Fantastic place! We visited Lanzarote and Fuertaventura some years ago (before we found this Paradise) and were quite bemused with the black volcanic sand, looked all wrong somehow!

It does look a bit strange,Nariz..I agree..makes it look mucky ! Still nice to walk in it at the water's edge though, whatever the colour :o)

What a beautiful view B. quite idyllic in that warm sunshine. 4million!!!!!!!

I didn't mean to imply that it was grotty , it just seems to trip off the tongue better . I actually like the place . much quieter than Teneriffe , we stayed in the south in a place called La Quemada ; amazingly unspoilt (as yet ) .
Still , the Canaries are about the nearest for some winter sun , thank goodness .

Thanks Grandmage..it was stunning..and yes,I agree about the price of that property..and apparently ,that was the reduced price,as it had been on the market a while !
I would want all the island for that ! Lol.

I didn't really think you were serious Driad..but it did rhyme !:o) For all I know,it maybe does have its grot spots now..most places do.:o)..

African correspondent here! So sorry that we seem to be always a bit behind these days!

100 kms off the coast of Africa, somewhere south of Spain...a veritable snip at £4,000,000...
...I'm sure that Richard Branson had no money when he bought that Carribean island...(must have got it from somewhere before the deal went through, tho')...there is hope!

Seriously though, Bloomer, lovely blog and fabulous photos - I did enjoy being there, thank you... :))

Not on leave yet , Karen ?

24 Jan, 2012

Oh, yes! On leave at home...BLISS!! :)))

24 Jan, 2012

Ha Ha,Karen..if only ! thanks, glad you enjoyed it..and pleased you arrived home safely..you must be very happy..enjoy your stay..did you mention you were coming to Scotland later ?

24 Jan, 2012

Yes! Thank you, Bloomer (and I think it's true about him having no money when he bought the island - oh, for the gift of the gab!...and investors...!)...here at home until 31st then Scotland for nearly two weeks...so glad to be home!! x

24 Jan, 2012

I'm surprised to see my reply to your comment this morning,Karen..my laptop went ape for some reason..and tried sending it 3 times..all I kept getting was a message on screen saying "bad gateway"whatever that means..I was halfway through writing a blog,as well, and it wouldn't let me load any more pics either..also it was very slow doing the ones I had managed to do..but all is fine this morning...it was only on this site,so must have been a blip somewhere.
Glad the trouble in Nigeria is a long way from your home..very worrying..and just awful for all the innocents caught up in it..they don't stand a chance,do they ? Enjoy your holiday, you need a bit of relaxation, after all that work....:o)

25 Jan, 2012

Morning Bloomer and thank you, enjoying being home! We'll have to just wait and see how far the trouble escalates in Nigeria...but, Lagos State does seem to be relatively safe for everyone who lives there...

That's exactly what happened to me last night...and I had to log in afresh this morning...I thought it was just my laptop though - my comments list has been strange for ages now...removing items marked 'seen' only for them to reappear again and not removing items after I've commented. Is that happening with you too?

25 Jan, 2012

Thank ggoodness it wasn't just me,Karen..and yes, that has been happening to me too, with the 'seen' comments..It has been a problem for a few GoYers, lately, but I have never had it,till this past few days..hey ho ! Just glad I was able to access it this morning..I would have been getting withdrawal symptoms, and gutted that I might have to find some menial jobs to do !Lol.

25 Jan, 2012

Heehee! I'm getting used to not being able to get online for a few days at a time now, Bloomer...but, the first few days 'cold turkey' are the hardest! lol! Then, you've got all that catching up to do.....!

Would you believe that I'm actually enjoying a little bit of housework and cooking???? Strange but true!!!!
Also true that I'm sitting here on GoY instead of doing any of it! lol!

25 Jan, 2012

Ha ha,no Esther and no goat ! A nice change then Karen..Lol...I really must get off here now..finally finished my blog..but pics taken forever to upload ! grr..Daughter and grandson coming for lunch ..oh,goody,OH just gone to make sarnies..might stay on here another 10 minutes,or so .Lol.

25 Jan, 2012

Haha! Only just found this at...umm...23.00hrs (French time)!......been cooking!! No help at all!!!! (Chicken - family - strangely wonderful!)

Hope you had a lovely lunch!

Catch your blog tomorrow, Bloomer, xx

25 Jan, 2012

Glad you enjoyed cooking your'own thing'..sounds good:o)
We had a nice lunch..home cooked cold Gammon sarnies, and salad..all went down well..the little one stayed with us,as his mum had to go into work for a few hours..so they were here for an evening meal as well, along with Thomas's daddy..very easy peasy meal..a big pan of Turkey chunky soup( freezer stand by from Christmas)with crusty french sticks..and an assortment of really naughty cream cakes for afters ..not home made,in case you were wondering .!..I like this kind of dining..no cooking ! Lol.

25 Jan, 2012

Sounds perfect, Bloomer - home cooked gammon salad sandwiches -!!!

Esthers are great...but you can't beat your own kitchen and knowhow...eh? Is it not lovely to be able to make them feel good (even if the cream cakes are not your own - shock horror!)
...still might try to smuggle her back tho' - just for the ironing!!!

25 Jan, 2012

I don't mind ironing, Karen..or cleaning, but cooking isn't my favourite thing...going out with a friend for a light lunch, and so far, tonights meal hasn't been christened yet !Could do with Esther myself .:o))

26 Jan, 2012

Am now not wanting to go back, Bloomer (even tho' I hate ironing!)...and despite having Esther...I like my own home... :)

27 Jan, 2012

I had a feeling you would say that,Karen..I suppose it's only natural you are missing home comforts..and more so,now you are back.....
