Casablanca ..part 3...

I promise this is the concluding part..but thought you might like to see their interpretation of a high street store..This was the only place we were hassled..outside the entrance..local men in traditional dress, with arms full of " Genuine" Rolex watches :o)..as mentioned in a previous blog,we weren’t encourage to take pics of them..also some of them ask for payment if you do..so we thought it best not to..a shame,as they looked so colourful.
We had about 45 minutes in the shop, and very interesting to see all the goods ,mainly hand made..This man was busy hand engraving brassware..

On to our last stop off now..The Notre Dame de Casablanca..a very modern Cathedral..in the city centre..
We didn’t expect to see something so new looking ..but very nice..and ‘clean modern Amenities’ were available here..a few crossed legs,I can tell you ! :o)I apologise for not being able to get the full height of it,but I would have had to stand in the middle of the mayhem they call roads !

A grotto, built into the caves in the grounds..

That’s about it,so back to the ship for a late lunch..and a cool drink ..hope you enjoyed this City with us..:o)

my mum and dad use to collect lots of brass things like what you have in the photos, a nightmare to clean to,
think it looks great in the right setting.

Wow would have loved to explored that shop, so interesting seeing the man doing all those wonderful engravings, wouldnt have like to have been hassled though, did you buy Russell a Rolex for Christmas then? lol

Not too keen on the brassware but the pottery looks interesting, Sandra ... re. the Rolex watches ... on a Tenerife holiday one year we constantly had "Hello, my friend" said to us by the man with the case full of 'genuine' Rolexes ... do people really buy them in the street ... lol!

I've had a smashing time being guided round on your tour Sandra and loved it all , did you buy anything ? the textiles look nice and colourful ........

Thank you,Sticki..The locals weren't aggressive in any way,and we didn't feel threatened at all..just trying to earn a living,I guess...but I suppose some would be,if we hadn't had the guides with us..

We didn't buy anything,Linda,as the Moroccan Dirham is a closed currency,so not allowed to buy it at reception ,only locally.Any unused cannot be exchanged back on board,as it isn't allowed to be taken out of the Country..The Euro and Sterling is accepted by most vendors..but as we didn't really see anything we wanted,we didn't bother..

It was nice to have a look round,Carol..very traditional .:o)

glad you liked it,Sheilar,thanks :o)

Thanks Paul..so nice to see they are engraved there too..
and not 'Made in China or Taiwan' Lol.

Cheers,SanI think a lot of us remember the brass cleaning at home,..I used to like doing it..and seeing how shiny they were...but those black dusters afterwards, and hands !Lol.

Thanks Terra,we did enjoy it..and the time ? Quarter past Tuesday !!!! Lol.

Aw,bless you,Pixi..I have a couple left yet..glad you enjoyed it..:o)

Thanks Carole..I thought you would like it..we weren't at all nervous about the hassling..as it was only outside the shop..they know where all the tourist coaches go..sorry to disappoint you about a Rolex for Russell..he had a "designer Calvin Klein"watch once ,from some guy on a beach...a fiver ! Lol...it lasted about a month :o) so he didn't deserve another expensive one. Lol...Well if they won't look after things !!

No,I'm not a lover of it now,Shirley..but I liked some of the pottery...It's a nightmare in the Canaries ,isn't it? we had that in Lanzarote one year..only it was " lucky, lucky" ! a lot worse there than Casablanca..!..

Thank you,Joanella ,the grotto was very nice..and did I buy a magic carpet ? ..not only bought it,I flew home on it ! :o))

Thanks Amy..I'm glad you enjoyed it.We had mixed feelings about going there, but needn't have worried at all..it was great..as long as you keep to well populated areas,I think you are fine..it does seem to have got a bad press over the years..but exaggerated ,from what we experienced..and no,I didn't buy anything..but there were some lovely rugs etc..:o)
