This morning,Russell decide to make a start on replacing one of the log roll borders..He started by the Pieris, dug out an Astilbe, which I needed to move…and also found a little Pieris that had layered itself..:o))..An hour later,he had only managed to dig down to the bottom of the old log roll,at this side,as it was so compacted, and full of roots..This is going to be so much fun..I don’t think !!

So,being the good wife that I am,I skulked off to the kitchen,to do something a bit less strenuous, and baked an Raspberry and Apple pie,an Orange cake, and some Yorkshire puddings..a good strategy on my part..:o)
Oh,and the little bit of pastry at the front,is the left overs, for the Blackbirds and Robin :o))

Just been out, after all the above was done, and he has given up around the first bit,and is now attempting the other side ,by the Aucuba..a change of scenery,or just fed up in one place..its proving just as hard.!! I am not going to say a word,..but when the hard slog is done,if ever..I will go out and do the nice bits. Lol.

But only if the air isn’t blue.!!! I will keep you updated,..he could be some time..:o)
UPDATE ON PROJECT……
Finally finished at 5pm..doesn’t he look a happy bunny ?

The log roll in the first pic,was the old stuff., and was completely rotten at the bottom,so he wanted to dig all the soil away first.Just in case you thought I was just supervising,I kept my promise, and dug all the soil back in place, and tidied up ! I also did some gardening, ironed and cooked a roast chicken dinner for family coming at 6pm….they all washed up !:o))This little man loved the raspberry and apple pie..!

It is now 9pm,and we are both shattered..not doing any work tomorrow,..off to the pub for lunch.! Think we have earned it :o)

If he's still out there tonight or by the end of the week, I can see why you baked so much, just get your coat on gal and go to the pub leave him too it, you won't see or hear the air tuning blue then. Lovely bed and planting, I see you have Thomas laughing and watch guard ready for him to alert you of the air turning blue hehe.

It all looks very neat and tidy in the garden and yummy in the kitchen :o) I agree that your Pieris is looking wonderful, what's your secret? I've had several and all have died, one on the way out now :o(

Thankyou all for your lovely comments,we have both had a laugh tonight...Carole,tell Harry,Russ has a spare blue coat...a relic from a previous job...I don't want him getting envious Lol.He looks like Arkright,in 'open all hours' Lol.
Sanbaz,I often make Y.puds in advance, and open freeze them ,and just bag them up..but today,I knew I would be busy,so made them to eat tonight..I put them in fridge when cold,covered..and then reheated them on medium for about 5 minutes..easy peasy..not done this before, but they were absolutely fine.
6d..I think I must just have edited this, with the update, when i read your comment..you must have read my mind, about going to the pub ! Lol.
Lily, thank you. That is sad, that you keep losing your Pieris plants..I don't have a secret, but they are in ericaceous compost, and they just seem to look after themselves,really..They seem really hardy..strange,isn't it ?

The log roll area looks really good ...
... I've added this to GoYpedia "Logs" :o)

All looking great :) I've seen these log rolls and wondered if they'd stay in the ground without rotting too much...guess your blog answers that question.

Your Yorkshire puddings are lovely and brown....do you have a special recipe and a way of getting them that brown? I make a good yorkshire pudding (the rise and all) but they are never brown like yours. How about your recipe, please? via PM if you don't want to put it up on a blog. Ta.
