.As a lot of you already know,we were very kindly invited along with their son,our daughter and of course,Thomas,to stay with our Grandson’s other Grandparents, who have lived in Spain for the past 6 years..After a hair raising start at the Airport here, arising from the weather conditions, and having only 5 minutes to spare before take off,we arrived safely at Alicante, where they met us,and drove to their beautiful home,in a small town called Dolores, about a 30 minute drive away.We had a wonderful time, and although it was sunny,it was quite windy and cool,so we still had to wrap up warm,,but it was lovely to get out and about…and no snow and ice !!!
i will take you on a tour of their garden first, and sadly, they had a keen frost one night, which is very unusual,so it damaged the Hibiscus, and the Bird of Paradise,..but still a lovely garden.

Oranges and Lemons..

Who lives in a house like this…they do! isn’t it gorgeous?

This is Bentley..a recent addition to the family.:o) Some of the Spanish people are not as sentimental about dogs,as we are,and this little one was for sale on the local market, along with others in the litter..so sad they are allowed to do this…so Fran bought it as a gift for her husband, who hasn’t been well lately,to cheer him up,and for company. The name arose,as he has always dreamed of having a Bentley car…so she told him that although it hasn’t got four wheels,it has four legs, and the nearest he will get to owning a Bentley…Lol…The only problem is,that Bentley is a girl.!!! ..so a bit of an identity crisis.:o) She was declared fit and healthy by the vet,so one lucky little dog has a good home..

Now for Christmas…This was on Christmas eve, where we went to a Chinese restaurant…Thomas enjoying his first Prawn Cracker..

The moon lighting up the sky,to help Santa find his way.

and Christmas morning,he is checking to see if we are all up yet..:o))

Of course we are..:o))

You aren’t the only dog around here Bentley.!!

Thanks Uncle Gareth…United..United! mmm,just checking the label..Yep,machine washable :o))

Got my own wheels..thanks Grandma Fran, and Grandad Fred,.now lets hit the beach, for bacon and sausage butties,on the barbie, and Bucks fizz for breakfast…cool !

We had a lovely time, and so different. As we were leaving, lots were coming down to spend the day on the beach, with their camping stoves, picnics, and all dressed up with santa hats.such a great atmosphere. After relaxing back at the house for a while,it was time to go for Christmas day lunch,at their local bar, which was lovely. They had a quiz afterwards about 60/70’s pop music, and our team won..:o))) We got half the money raised, and the other half went to ‘Help the Heroes’..which was great..our share paid for the drinks !

I hope I haven’t bored you with this long blog, and hope you enjoyed seeing some sunshine.A very special Christmas for all of us,and lots of happy memories..

Thank you,Tulsalady and Littlelegs,....pleased you liked it..it was certainly different, and so relaxing,as we ate out most of the time,so we could see as much of the area as possible. We were lucky enough to have a lovely warm sunny day,the day before we left..so nice to see everyone sitting outside, and strolling on the promenade, just enjoying.
Mavis,Thomas hasn't much choice in being 'red and proud'.
all his Dad's family are big Man United supporters...anyway he looks good in red.! Lol.

3 Jan, 2011

Cheers Sticki,it is a lovely house, and all their furniture and car,was shipped over from England..so an epic change for them. The sand sculptures are done most days,by the same person..amazing,aren't they?.The lemons had the most fantastic flavour,so...lemony ..:o)
you know what I mean, not like some we get here.I wish I had brought some home with me,..I forgot..grrr.

Loved this blog, Sandra, oh to be somewhere where Bird of Paradise grow! Love the house, the beach, in fact, the whole idea of Christmas in the sun is very appealing to me right now. Thomas looks so very happy and I bet the grandparents were so pleased to meet him. : o ))

Thanks Shirley..it was a lovely change from the norm, but still nice to be with Family. His 'Spanish' Grandparents are coming over next Monday,as their middle son and his wife
are expecting their first child...another boy..mid January..so naturally want to be here for another welcome addition.I think they have only booked one way,so can go back when they want....He will be a little playmate for Thomas,as they all live in the same village...we are all looking forward to it..:o)))

what a wonderful Blog, I really have enjoyed looking at it, Thomas is just adorable, such a cheeky little face, the Villa is beautiful, so glad you all had a great time, bet you enjoyed the bacon butties, thanks Sandra for sharing with us, and congrats for winning the quiz.

3 Jan, 2011

Thank you Amy,it was great.Bentley is about 7 months old,so very much a baby herself, and bursting with energy.
She will calm down, one day...:o).Have you been to visit your sister before? Maybe you know the area where the sand sculptures are..Its called Guadamar,a nice town, and beautiful beaches...It would be nice for you to go at Christmas Amy,but think it is the busiest time at the airports,so that was the only downside of the holiday, everything else was perfect..

3 Jan, 2011

Wow Sandra what a wonderful Christmas you have had, The house and garden looks fantastic, and Thomas's Grandparents look so friendly and lots of fun. We were so pleased to win the quiz. There were 3 teams all got 25 out of 26....and all failed on the same question..so it was a tie breaker..and by jove,we got it !

No Sandra , i've been to other areas of spain but not there , I've made a note of the name so that if or when I go I will be prepared :o)

3 Jan, 2011

Lou,hope you had a good Christmas and New year too.The garden is huge, and goes all round all the house.Fred did all the design, planting, and most of the work himself..a credit to him.It was one of the first things I looked at,so we had a nice stroll around, discussing it all...lovely.!

3 Jan, 2011

You will be ok San,I think most mums are like that..thank goodness..Will he come home at half term? if so,its not too far away....We took our decs down today too..wasn't a lot of point putting them up,this year, really, but only did the minimum..so it looked seasonal at least..:o)

3 Jan, 2011

It is really nice around Alicante area,Amy..and quite a few places to visit.Much more Spanish, than some resorts, although there are a lot of ex pats, living around there. We also visited another lovely resort on our last day,called.Torrevieja..sorry,don't think I have spelt that right..as my spanish is rubbish..Lol.

3 Jan, 2011

Oooohhhh those blue skies, how wonderful, what a beautiful place they have and that garden, with lemons just hanging there. Fab blog Bloomer, glad you had a great christmas, we have taken our decs. down too, it was so dusty with them around! Happy new year to you all and that gorgeous baby.

You did spell it right Sandra thats where my sister lives :o))

3 Jan, 2011

Thanks Grandmage, wish we could go out and pick oranges and lemons too.Hope you have a happy new year too.x

4 Jan, 2011

I am amazed I spelt it right,Amy..as the pronunciation is different..as the J is said as a C..but it doesn't take much to confuse me Lol.It is a lovely place, but more rocky than Guadamar, but there was a great street market, and a lovely promenade..your sister is a lucky lady to live there..

4 Jan, 2011

Loved it Bloomer, you certainly have the blog knack. I know, sounds like a medieval disease, but you know what I mean. What a happy little chap Thomas is, he obviously took it all in his stride. Are they all expats in the pic, if so are there any natives there? and if so, do they think you're all mad? I haven't read every comment as I'm a bit pushed for time so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's been answered already..whereabouts in Spain is it? I'm so glad you made it ,and obviously enjoyed it:-)) Oh..if they ever get tired of Bentley, I'll have her:-)

4 Jan, 2011

Glad you enjoyed it Ba.I think they were all expats in the photo, with the exception of our lot ! Lovely people, and they made us so welcome..it was good fun..,and yes there are many natives too..some of them are also mad..:o))
The town of Dolores, where they live,is about 20mins drive inland, south west of Alicante airport. If you go North of the Airport, you come to Benidorm, which is a 40 mins drive away...hope that helps..best I can do..I just wait for the driver to tell me where I am..Lol. As for Bentley...if you want her to climb all over you, nibble your toes, then you would love her..so full of life. Her parentage hasn't been decided yet..think she is definitely part Chihuahua, and the other part is either Whippet or Jack.Russell..:o).sounds like Mum was a bit of a hussy...Lol.

4 Jan, 2011

I think you're right about her parentage Bloomer and I'm quite partial to the old toe nibble..so the offer still stands:-) When we were in Barcelona a good while ago, there was a woman begging, she had a bitch with newly born puppies. It was very hot and she made lots of money:-(

4 Jan, 2011

Glad you think so too...I will keep the toe nibbling in mind, just in case...Lol.Who made the money...the woman or the bitch??...the mind boggles !We were sorry to hear how some of the dogs are treated in Spain..some of them are just chained up all day and night..and not bought as guard dogs either..just because they want a dog,for no particular purpose, except to have one...So very sad,and upsetting.I am so glad I didn't see any on the market we went to...

4 Jan, 2011

Love the new avatar, Bloomer, gives off a warm glow! Regarding dogs/puppies, when we were in Albufeira in Portugal there was a 'lady' with a basket on the ground containing six puppies. Naturally, she pleaded poverty and people threw coins to her. Later on, we saw her drinking pints of beer in the shade, the puppies were left out in the sun! Very cruel. : o (((

4 Jan, 2011

Glad you like it Shirley,a nice memory of the holiday...I wish we could grow them like that here.Fred and Fran have now empoyed a Gardener to look after them now, with him not being well, and he was telling them, that there is an insect from Egypt, where a lot of the palm trees come from, and it is a serious threat to them.lots are dying throughout Spain. He found some on theirs,so has been treating them. That is awful about those poor puppies..I remember years ago in Benidorm, when they used to have poor Monkey's ,which were treated so cruelly too,and used to perform tricks for money.Thankfully,I think it has stopped now...

5 Jan, 2011

I loved the whole blog Bloomer. You all look like you had a brilliant time including Bentley!! The villa and garden both look amazing :o)))

5 Jan, 2011

Thanks Annella...It was nice to do something different, for a change...you wouldn't like it....no burly firemen to be seen at all ..Lol.Wheeeeeeeee

5 Jan, 2011

I love the sun + peace and quiet, the occasional fireman yes...but that would have been my idea of a nice xmas x
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

5 Jan, 2011

A lovely sunshine Christmas holiday blog, so much to see and do.....me I prefer to stay in England in the cold and the damp and eat turkey (which I dont really like) lol!!

6 Jan, 2011

8 Jan, 2011

Thank you Flori..it was almost scuppered ...but made it by the skin of our teeth..I haven't run that fast for years..and don't want to do it again..especially through the cattle market they called the Airport.Lol..Don't ever ask me to do a fun run..the answer will be no,no,definitely NO.:o)))
