Yes,I know we are all fed up of the snow,..another 6" here this morning and just starting again..just as we have cleared it for the umpteenth time,so the carers for some of our older neighbours, can get down our steep road.A lot more of the younger neighbours have also been helping as well,so they were a very good help..It has been so good to see everyone pulling together this time, and made it feel more like a community. One neighbour has made a big pan of soup, and taken it to those who are unable to get out,as a few of them are on their own,and their families have been unable to get to visit.
We have also been in touch with our local councillor, about the lack of a grit bin,at the bottom of our road again, and although they are unable to supply us with another one,he has arranged to have some loose grit supplied for us,as long as we can find somewhere for it to be delivered, free of charge..We have found the ideal spot,so we are very grateful. All in all,a very happy bunch of people. It will help enormously.
A bit early, but thought you would like to see our Christmas Pudding,it was too good not to show you.:o))
This is my neighbours Phormium, this morning.Brandy sauce,Anyone ? :o))

Am I seeing things? Has Santa come early,to avoid the rush?

No,it isn’t,but our lovely postman, who never fails to deliver, whatever the weather..We didn’t get a present, but another welcome letter from our Councillor, informing us,that since the Post office closed, the Pelican crossing is no longer viable,on our busy main road,so we are all invited to make suggestions,as to where a more suitable place would be.As we have a Pharmacy on one side, and a Health centre on the other, plus Bus stops on both sides,we have said for a while, that this would be the best plce to resite it. So ,in spite of the bad weather, there is always some good to come out of every situation,.keep warm and safe,everyone..

Nice to see good people helping out - only one horrible neighbour in our road - every winter when we cleared our drive we cleared next doors too - this morning he cleared his and left ours completely - in fact even unloaded some of his on ours and last night stood watching us struggling to get up the drive - I was going to offer him a camera (nobody likes him!) Everyone else in the street are superb and it is nice to be helpful to people. Next door the other way the lady tried to reverse in - on a steep drive - no good but we stuck in and helped.

Like the Christmas pudding :D

AH a story to warm the cockles of you heart........lovely to hear.Love the pics too

We have the snme sort of scene here in Hull. We have just had almost continuous heavy snow for around 14hours, only easing off this morning around 9am! We are currently about 8 inches deep, more in the drifts, which for Hull is very unusual. I cant see most of my plants as they are under a thick duvet of snow. The council have been trying to grit some of the slopes on the paths, and the community payback scheme has been getting some of their participants out snow clearing as well. I spent an hour digging the car out this morning to get my wife and 2 youngest to school (wife is a T.A. at the school) only for the head to close it when she realised there were more staff than pupils....
What I have not seen is lots of traffic on the roads.

Thanks Paul,it made me smile when I saw it today too.We had one horrible neighbour last year too,but glad to say they moved a couple of weeks ago Yippee.! He used most of the grit on HIS flat drive grrr.Hope he now lives at the bottom of a very steep hill....not very charitable, but when he said he would throw water on the road,so none of us would get out...? I rest my case...!

Hi Sandra its good you are so cheerful with everyone being so helpful in your close, its a blizzard here at the moment now 11inches deep ugh!!Harry cleared the road and rive with one of our other neighbours but it is ust as bad again now2, we are still supposed to be going out tonight Simon is supposed to be collecting us but he will never get his car down here so we will probably after walk to Huddersfield Rd and even then it will be difficult, Simon is also picking up the Grandchildren from work over in Droylsden I would really like to cancel but Im leaving it up to him. Walking boots are at the ready!

Similar story on my sons sloping cul-de-sac, Paulsgarden,
yesterday (he was on nights) he spent all day clearing the Road and bought Rock Salt from his own pocket and spread it, and not one person came out to help him, even though they were watching him from their windows, how mean can you get?

Thanks Scabious..glad you liked the pics..:o)

A lot of our schools are closed for the same reason Gd.I also think that people forget, that most teachers are not local anymore, and they also may have their own young children to care for,or little ones at nursery, who can't get there either. It makes me cross sometimes, when its said that " we had to walk in our day".Yes we did,but most mums didn't have to work then, and teachers were usually local...A different scenario altogether now..

Lovely blog and so nice when everyone gets together. You keep warm aswell.

Oh dear,Carole..It is a dilemma wondering what to do isn't it?
I wouldn't want to go either, and I think as we get older,we're not quite as brave as the younger ones.It will be a shame if you can't,as I know you were really looking forward to it..just be safe..Its a good job we went out last Thursday, isn't it,as we wouldn't have got there now.
i should have been going to Sainsbury's works lunch, but cancelled earlier in the week, for the same reason, and should be going out tomorrow lunchtime, with friends, but not going there either.Just a bit nervous, with having my pot on,if I fell.Alison and family should have been coming for tea tonight, but just been speaking to her,and she doesn't want to risk it.Its very steep where they live, and just not worth it,especially with the baby.too cold to be out at night,in this weather.I am secretly glad,as I didn't want them to take a chance either....Isn't it just pants ???

Now that what I call a Christmas Pud Bloomer, but for gawds sake dont put brandy and a match to it it looks as if it would make a mighty bang.lol.
Its great isn`t it when neighbours can get together and help each other, all we got from ours when we started clearing the pavement and steps was "Shouldn`t do that if anybody slips its your fault you`ll get sued, let the council do it."

Ps Carole..I will send the photo as soon as I can get out to buy some more stamps...Lol...I always think I have enough..but never have..duh.!

Lol,Stroller..we would need a lot of spoons to eat it.,as well..Lol.So you have a "Victor Meldrew" too? there's always one ! You know what to do then, just leave theirs,Very ungrateful...Pavements are the last priority anyway..so they will have to stay in..no problem..

Have texted Simon with an update on the situ here but havent heard from him yet! We were just saying its a good job we went to the Great Western last week wouldnt want to try and drive on that road. Like you say Sandra you do becme more nervous as you get older [thats putting it lightly, Im terrified of walking on ice and snow!
Its a pity you wont see Thomas tonight but Alison is wise to cancel its not worth the risk. Take Care;0}

Continuing the teacher problem.... my niece lives in Edinburgh but works in Glasgow. She is staying with her parents at the moment as the Glasgow schools are open, while in Edinburgh all the schools are closed. She cannot get home as the motorway between the two cities has been closed from time to time. Her husband and friends have been looking after her six year old little boy as he is not at school. She is determined to get home at the weekend.

its great when people get together, no such luck here, but luckerly no snow , i always say to baz if everyone scrapped their part of the road it would soon be clear, but some to damn lazy i thinks, and like you its nice to help people who cant get things done or familioes cant get to them, well done sandra x

1 Dec, 2010

I'm very glad to hear you are all coping there Sandra. It's nice that everyone is pulling together. What a lot of snow you've got :o((

1 Dec, 2010

We have been doing our best, but we can't get a snow shovel anywhere, and if you have bad back it's not possible....and plenty of people have bad backs don't they. Didn't get it cleared today as still aching from yesterday's efforts! Hope to get it clear again tomorrow though. The gritter came around for the first time today so that will help. We do have a grit bin on the street, but no grit! Ho hum!

Good community spirit there Bloomer now your "grump" has moved - hooray to that. Love the Christmas Pud well spotted :o)

Loved the photo of your Pud, Bloomer! Seeing all that snow makes me realise how lucky we are over here...it is just really cold, but dry.....Take it steady everyone who is snow bound and stay safe and upright! :~))

Nice to hear that there are people in the world still willing to help each other out!

2 Dec, 2010

Thank you all for your nice comments...and we are now able to get up the road safely.A lovely man came from the Council, arrived early this morning,in his pick up truck..armed with a shovel, and lots of grit,as promised...Doesn't it restore your faith in human nature?..He not only did all the road on his own,he also filled an old dustbin we had, which we have put in a suitable place,so we all have access to it,who live at the bottom of the road... we are all very happy now..:o))

A Council with heart or at least one of their workmen with heart!! glad to hear it Bloomer :o)

2 Dec, 2010

Yes,it was nice to see him arrive.A few of us have rung our councillors (man and wife team),to thank them for their quick response to our request,in getting it done for us...we are hoping now,we may be on a priority list in the future...It really helps when they are local to our area, and always do their best to assist us.:o)).
