Rapallo/Santa Margherita/Portofino..Cruise..part 2

These 3 resorts ,are on the the Ligurian Riviera, in Northern Italy, near Genoa of which Rapallo is the largest resort. We had to take a tender from the ship,as the harbour isn’t large enough to berth there.A nice stroll along a traditional red brick promenade, lined with palm trees, into the pretty town, and a statue of Christopher Columbus, who,I think, was born in nearby Genoa, and although I’m not certain, sailed from Rapallo,on his epic journey. We spent long enough here to enjoy a lovely Capuccino, and a browse around, before heading back to the Harbour, and boarding a motor launch, for our next port of call,Santa Margherita.

A short journey takes you to this lovely town.Santa Margherita is the kind of place, where la dolce vita comes with a price tag,so we didn’t buy anything here.We were more than happy, just looking at the beautiful buildings and architecture..hope you agree..

Back to the motor boat now,and a lovely journey along the coastline to Portofino.A town that lives its life in the spotlight of the rich and famous,..and now,..Sandra and Russell.Lol ..It boasts all the shops you just look at,and don’t go in…not an M&S ,or Primark in sight..and lots of of very expensive yachts moored in the small harbour .
The first photo was a beautiful old Monastery, which was quite isolated. It makes you think, however did they manage to build it,in such an isolated place..I suppose the stone was brought in by sea,as there were no roads that we could see,but it seems they have built a restaurant at the left hand side.!

We are now approaching the Harbour…look at the yacht, isn’t that the business?

Well,hello Sailors!

Just arrived in Portofino. All visiting boats can only stay about one and half hours, because of the sheer volume of them,as it is only a very small harbour, but we had enough time,as itdoesn’t take long to browse around.Good job,at their prices..We did manage to afford an Icecream..:o))

A lovely full day,and we sailed straight back to Rapallo, and boarded the Tender again,to take us back to the ship, anchored outside the harbour.

I hope this hasn’t been boring,as I know its quite a long blog, but there was so much to see,and i have tried to condense it,as much as possible….and I enjoyed doing it..especially in this grim weather..and had the lovely sunshine,in my mind,at least.

Hywel..it is a beauty, isn't it? did you notice the silver Dolphin on the front?.. Nicest yacht I have ever seen.I agree about everthing being so clean, but I suppose they don't get the pollution from traffic, etc, there, unlike their big cities..and yes,Warm...lovely..!

Lovely blog Bloomer, beautiful photos, the first ones look similar to Verona, where we have been, typical Italian town, delightful.I agree its nice to sit in the warm and dream!!

You're doing it again, aren't you! Such familiar places. :-)) We actually stayed at Santa Margherita twice - we didn't think it was an expensive place then, but maybe it's gone up-market...Portofino...we sat and watched a motor boat with a guy who had a radio phone - not a mobile - so he could be summoned to pick up his 'boss' and wife after they'd done their Gucci and Versace shopping!

Also stayed at Rapallo one year, but weren't as keen on it as other places.

Did your boat take you along the coast to see the Cinque Terre? Ah - happy memories...I feel a desperate need coming over me to go back to Italy.....

But thanks for this lovely warm and blue-skied blog. :-))))

Louise, the Ship was the one we were on..Thomson Dream..and it was fantastic..Sorry about your horrendous weather, you seem to have got the worst of it..hope it clears for you soon, and glad you enjoyed this..your turn soon :o)))
Me too,Hywel..in fact,at the moment, any would do,it is sooo cold, with a thin layer of that white stuff you love so much Lol.more expected tonight, lots more,by the sounds of it..!
Grandmage,...glad you enjoyed it.It is a bit similar to Verona, but without the Opera house..I think you just have to look at the buildings, and you know what country it is.They are all lovely, aren't they?
Spritz...oh dear,am I making you wistful again?..me too.! I preferred Santa Margherita too, lovely place.I was going by the info we were given on the itinerary, about it being expensive now,but as we didn't buy anything,I can't confirm.Unfortunately,we didn't see the Cinque Terre.Probably not enough time ..I'll google it,as don't know anything about it.Glad it brought back nice memories for you.:o))
