As a lot of you are aware,my OH retired last week, and yesterday was his first official day of leisure, the last week was holiday.Everything going smoothly until…..I decided to check my poppy seeds that have been drying in a paper bag in the shed. The lovely pink frilly ones that Pansy Potter gave me,via Amy.
They were ready for putting into an envelope,to keep in my seed box.As I brought them inside,I decided to go into the bedroom for something,en route to the kitchen,as you do,being a multi tasker, and left the bag on the bed while I did something else.I remembered a short time later,so went to collect them…nothing there ! Went into kitchen, and there it was,a neatly folded paper bag,by the sink.On inspection, the bag was empty..Question to Russell," what have you done with my poppy seeds"?.."There was nothing in it,and you left it on the bed..(terrible crime on my part) so just tipped the “dust” out,and was going to put it in the recycling bin. There were all these little specks drowning in the bottom of the sink…A short silence followed….a few words..but luckily, the poppies in question are still flowering,so all is not lost….My first thought was, shall I ring his boss, and see if he can go back part time?…Oh,we are going to have fun,I feel it in my bones.Lol…By,the way,he isn’t a gardener, but a good cleaner,so part time will ideal…:o))

Hope this isn't a sign of things to come bloomer. On the positive side it would be great if he took over the housework to give you more time in the garden. Retirement is always a time of lots of re-adjustment, for both of you, so I wish you all the best, for a happy time - so long as he knows who's boss!

Thanks Mad,yes I agree, that it takes time to adjust, but we will be fine...I think I am all for job sharing, just as long as I get the good bits.Lol.

Keep him busy! fortunately my husband does not garden or decorate the 2 things I love, but he will cook and supermarket shop the things I dont like to do too often.

Welcome to my world, Sandra, my routine has completely gone out the window now OH is home all the time ! On the plus side,we went out for a lovely woodland walk yesterday, hardly anyone about as they're all working !
Weekends are football on Saturdays (for him) and a lazy day Sunday when all the weekenders are down here! Find yourself a drawer for your seeds, and anything else you don't want 'tidied up' by OH with instructions to not touch it ... ever ! : o ))))))

Brilliant blog bloomer, know exactly what your talking about cos my oh, is just the same, tidies up all over the place and I cant find anything, that is why he has got his 'shed' to retreat to cos I chase him out there!!!! Lol. Funny I asked my hub if he would like to do some part time at school and he answered 'no way' so he is here to stay like yours, bless, and we wouldnt be without them really ! =))

That gave me a good laugh Sandra ,it's exactly the sort of thing my hubby would have done ... he is only just beginning to realise that food doesn't come out of the oven ready cooked on a plate and that it does take a bit of organising ... LOL....

Denise,Shirley,Grandmage and Amy...oh,how you have all made me smile....I thought I may get some comments along those lines.Lol.There will be more positive things than negative,I'm sure...(I hope!) I must admit he does his share anyway, and more if I ask nicely....no cooking I'm afraid, apart from a sandwich, but I'm sure he would like to learn...not.!! :o)) and he actually likes shopping.....

This did make me laff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....not a good start Russell....interfering with "gardening stuff"....You could always book him a course in "cordon bleu" cookery Sandra....that would keep him out of your hair....and he gets to cook the meals.....perfik....lol !!!!

Glad about that,Lou,..funnily enough,I have hardly seen him today.Lol.He went to town to get some ideas what to buy with vouchers and money he had for his birthday, came home and made me a sarnie for lunch, and then going to and fro, from shed to loft, and vice versa till 5pm...I wonder why??? I know just how it feels.......lol. We retired last November and I was glad to go back for 2 days a week for a rest from a bored hubby. Anyway he bought a pile of scrap ( a motor bike in bits) and spends lots of time doing it up and leaves me alone to keep the house tidy and it's stopped him faffing about with my garden.............

At the moment everything is new,and it feels like holiday.I suppose everyone has mixed feelings, when you have worked all your life, and never been together for long periods.I think winter time will be the hardest,As yet,we both have things to do,and hopefully we will have some extra holidays, which will be nice.Luckily,I cut my working hours twice, before I retired,so got used to it gradually, but I think it will be harder to adjust when reality kicks in for him.You definitely need something to keep your interest going,so your OH has obviously done that...and you both have your own space...:o))
