A plantless day
A plantless day

Well isn’t the weather just awfull. It is really. ( well it is here anyway – sometimes I forget there are people all over the world on this site )
I went to Carmarthen yesterday . It’s market day there on a Wednesday and there are stalls etc where you can buy things. There’s also a little garden centre next to the market . It has lots of interesting plants like a very good selection of hardy geraniums, and also lots of lovely clematis and nice shrubs. I thought there might be bulbs in stock now aswell. I couldn’t decide what I would buy.
Well they’re ‘re-vamping’ the centre of Carmarthen which probably means they’ll spoil it’s character. They’re going to knock down the old market and make lots of changes. They have already started and it was difficult to push my mother’s wheelchair along the uneven pavements.
We got to the Garden centre at last and what do you think.! Horror of Horrors ! It had closed down ! Not a plant in site. The gates shut and padlocked. Is this a taste of the ‘new’ look we’re going to get ? It does not impress me at all.
Then it started to rain again so we went back to the car. On the way we passed a little bakery and I went in to buy 3 corned beef pasties – one for Beryl, one for me, and one for my mother. We ate them in the car…. in the rain…. and we all three just laughed.
Well I had a plant-less day so B and I decided we’d go somewhere else on Saturday. It will not be Carmarthen, but it will be somewhere with a garden centre that is still open.
All the best,
Hywel :o)

I like the part where you three sat in the car and ate your pasties and laughed! Oh that is just wonderful nothing like a good laugh to make you feel better Hywel!

Hywel I bet those pasties were nice.... You're making me feel hungry. Those pasties made up for the bad weather and provided some comfort food!
All best wishes, Grenville.

Glad you laughed about it. Last week we went to the market and there were no inspiring plants to buy, so we ended up in the local coffee shop. A thousand miles from you but the same scenario!!!

Lol, isnt that just typical. At least it was a fun day out in the end. When I am pushing my mum in her wheelchair I say to her, as they do at the funfair, "the louder you scream the faster you go" it makes her laugh and I push her faster. I think its very important that we keep our parents happy.
Do your mum and Beryl share your love of gardening Hywel?

Beryl is like me about the garden Lynne. I show her all the photos on GOY. She enjoys it. My mother has never done any gardening in her life. She only went down there to peg clothes on the line. lol. She likes to see flowers in a vase but that's all.
A big thank you to everyone for reading this, and all your comments. I nearly deleted it because I thought it was a bit silly.
All the best, Hywel

Aw Thanks Spritzhenry. I suppose it's lack of confidence makes me think like that.
Best wishes, Hywel.

Yes, I've learned that about you, Hywel. You'll have to grow out of it! lol.

I 've been reading your earlier Blogs and note you like the Wild Flowers as much as the grown ones. I am the same, when much younger I kept a Flora of all the Wild Flowers I found, Date of finding Location etc. Many of the locations no longer have the flowers. but here in the garden some of my favourites still continue.
We spent some time in West Wales. and remember one Garden Centre at St. David's which was really pleasing. I wonder if it still exists.?. I'm here writing this because its raining again. but my favourite song is "Pennies from Heaven"

HI Hywel
did the garden centre re open?
it's so sad that most change these days is not for the better, unfortunately.
Are there any good garden centres you go to?
I never get further than Wyevale these days and they are all very similar. Will need to go further west, 'hoping to go to Farmyard nursery to see their Hellebores soon.Have you been there?
Going to Newcastle soon and they have some very good ones up there so more alpines I think!

Good idea, leave Carmarthen for a while. But I bet you're going to get curious about what they're going to build and arrange there soon, lol. But an open garden centre is great to visit. And no plants to buy yesterday, well, think of the money you have saved, so next time you can get more!
