I expect quite a few of you will have seen or seen exerts from the new Film War Horse,a number of the scene were shot in the village of Castle Combe which is about 30 Min’s drive from where I live,My lunch time pub visits quite often take me in this direction, and have always had a love of the village so much so that Ten years ago in one of the blackest parts of my life I sat down there and sketched the street and its buildings, I took other Photos with My first digital camera and came home set up a canvas 3ft x2ft and lost myself in painting what I saw for nearly 3 months.
A trip into my roof space this morning to put a few remaining Christmas decorations away prompted me to bring the painting down and unwrap it,It is all done in Acrylic Paint.
These are the pictures of it,because it is large I found it difficult to take photos without light coming on to it so added a couple of close ups,the painting was good therapy at the time don’t think my eyes would cope with it now.
Hope You like, and when you see the horse rearing up in the film you will recognise where i painted it.

I have wrapped it back up and put it away as it makes me emotional,Thats the soft side of me.

Wow Bjs - that is an amazing painting . . . you are a brilliant artist! The water by the bridge is so well done. It seems a shame not to hang it up in its frame, but I guess that would be hard if it makes you feel emotional.

I haven't seen the film of War Horse, but saw the play in London (and Michael Morpurgo came to our bookshop once!) - very moving story.

Great painting Bjs. and yes I saw the film and the stage show and must say I preffered the stage show mainly because of the excellent puppetry. I however loved the scenery in the film it was brilliantly produced.

That is amazing Bjs, I want to see the film even more now!
I think its fabulous if you can find something creative when you are feeling like that.

I am not surprised about that. You should come down to London (and visit the queen) and see the play, I mean it, its wonderful.

Bjs, I think you have great talent for painting. It is for sure not worth to be wrapped in the paper. If you did not say in introduction that it was your painting, I would guess it was painted by professional. And there is something very sensitive and symbolic in that picture, that girl and boy looking down on the river. Please, forgive me, that is my deformation, as I work with tarot symbols for years :)
By the way, have no idea, what kind of film/play is that War Horse. In Bratislava (capital of Slovakia) we have now popular film "A Dangerous Method" a portrait of complex relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. I do not remember who was the one of the two who said that the great spiritual pain evokes in people either unusual creative urge or destructive one. You for sure belong to the first group :)

Katarina. War horse is set in world war one tells the story of the millions of horses which were conscripted from the fields of the United kingdom to be used in war torn Europe, and the heartbreak of the owners who lost them.
a lot more to it than that, but the best way I can describe it in a few words. It is Steven Spielberg Film.

I see, sounds interesting. I did not see this Spielberg´s film. I was living in Cracow, close to Szindler´s factory, just when Spielberg was making his "Szindler´s list" there.
Anyway, you should paint. You have great talent :)

i think its a lovley piece of art from one artist to another . id definatly hang it as pictures are supposed to bring out your emotions . it doesnt deserve being put away . in should be there for everyone to see . bye the way the film will have made your picture so valuable not that that is importent but worth a mention . ive never drawn a horse but would like to .if it was in your sad times it could remind you how happy you are now . i love it very nice .

Bjs, just today I saw "The Dangerous method" about Carl Gustav Young and S. Freud - perfect film masks, some good dialogues, but the film just slips on the surface. However, in the cinema I noticed advertisement for the film "War Horse".

Brilliant painting Brian, how I wish I could achieve something even half as good as this. It really does deserve to be on show but I do understand why you prefer not to do so.

Thanks for showing your painting, Bjs. I am amazed at how much detail is included - a picture to look at again and again and still find something new.

Btw, what medium did you use Bjs? Is it watercolour? I know how difficult it is to paint foliage, but yours is just lovely!

This one is Acrylic as most of mine are just a few in Oil.
Water colours are very nice and very different but not enough substance in the material I would be working with to suit me.Everyone to there own really.

Thanks . . . I did wonder if it was in Acrylic - very good for detail apparently. :))

In the blackest part of my life, I also painted, murals, on any wall in my house that I couldn't afford to do anything else with. The charity shops provided the paint, and I used whatever I could to pass the time to my next challenge ...

Sorry, NP, I haven't the relevant computer cables to download your tiger picture for you to see. It is lovely, and with the dark gold frame and cream liner, it jumps out and snarls at me. Have put it at the head of my bed ... my lover looks twice at it!! Hee hee :-)))))

Brian that painting is abolsutely amazing. The level of detail you've managed to include in the painting is mind blowing. Its a shame to hide the painting away, but I can understand why you do.
