New Beginnings

Hello everyone, just felt like starting a blog about our decision to whip most of the plants out of our back garden and start again since I got a bit over-enthusiastic buying any and every plant and shrub I spotted and couldn’t resist. I am sure all you mad keen gardeners will know how out of hand it can get.

Anyway, most of the shrubs had overtaken their allotted spaces and the plants were being crowded out, so we left just 2 or 3 shrubs and a couple of small trees – a purple acer and a “Sunrise?” tree (forgot species name) which I really loved.

Have started planting some perennials now to make the main body of the back border but I am still having a problem limiting my choice, so I may be glad of any advice you may want to give from time to time. I will post a few photos of the borders so far but they are not blended too well just yet.
and I have added some annuals to fill in where it looked really bare. I really like the combination of the yellow coreopsis with the dark purple salvia in the last photo, but I need more of the salvia plants but cannot find the label with its variety on and can’t seem to find anything as dark on the internet. Any help appreciated.

Will keep updating as I go along. Thanks for taking the time to read my first blog, hope I didn"t go on for too long.

Yours looks quite a large garden, Bellflower, it looks good too :-)

It's not large enough for all the plants I would love to grow and too large for the money to buy them all Louise, but I will try and keep a rein on my tendency to try and cram everything in this time, since I always like to see other gardens who have good large clumps of flower as opposed to just popping lots of plants which don't show up as well by themselves. Patience is a virtue, so I will try and be patient until they can spread themselves a little. Thankyou for the nice comments.

Patience 'is' a virtue - one which 'i' don't have !!!

Hi Bellflower ... nice blog ... your garden's looking good ... I always cram things in & they get smothered by the bigger ones!

Thank you Fluff, I knew it wasn't just me. It's just that we can't get enough of the masses of choice we have. I blame the Garden Centres etc. Louise, join the Club it goes with the territory.

Thank you Valadel, it will be so much fun trying to get it right, even if there are a few mistakes on the way.
