I moved here in the late summer of 2011 to find a garden filled around the edges with many beautiful and unusual plants with lawn occupying the majority of the space. I prefer less grass and more growing space so am busy hard landscaping. The garden seems to lend itself to squares and rectangles, so, influenced by the paintings of Mondrian, I am using black guttering to divide grass from growing space. I have dug up lots and lots of grass in what turns out to be very stony ground. I am using the washed stones to fill the gutters and hope to find some black slate chippings as a topping.
