Very wet April garden

I managed to get outside and take a few photos yesterday evening when the rain eased for 10 minutes. We have had heavy rain for a few days now and I have run out of potting jobs to do in the garage, it drives me mad being stuck inside after work.

Looking down the slope, it’s far too wet to walk around the bottom garden at the minute

I bought this Acer palmatum about 4 years ago but it had been sadly neglected and pushed to the back of the patio so I decided to re-pot it ( in the dry and fairly warm garage) on Tuesday. Now it has a spot at the front to stand in and hopefully will look better this year

Continuing the red theme on the patio is Cinderella’s lovely Heuchera sent to me last year. It is covered in flower stems now

This is Buddleja davidii ‘African Queen’ sent to me by Karensusan, one of three. I am training this one into a standard so hopefully in my next garden it will grow into a small tree

Last night’s bargain purchase from Morrisons, Photinia ‘Pink Marble’ £7.00

This is the only photo of the front garden I managed to get without the flash going off. It’s starting to fill out again now

Raining again so this is taken from the kitchen window, one soggy cold Pigeon waiting to be fed

Looking out the back door later on. I hope all this rain is helping the reservoirs to fill and that it might save us from the hosepipe ban continuing into the summer

Annella, What super pictures. I would LOVE to have a garden as big as yours. It's beautiful. You are so lucky. Hope you don't feed the pigeon, they're vermin and carry loads of diseases to other birds.

Your garden is lovely Annella, I love the reds amongst all the greenery especially showing up in the last two pics.
Yes its very soggy gardens at the moment but gosh they all look amazing, lots of pics taken from the windows, lol....

Thanks Lincs, lots of wet blogs on here today :o)) Waddy the pidge just helps himself, along with all the Starlings!

19 Apr, 2012

Oh Waddy, thats not fair, we have lots of vermin in our world, some are even human but we can`t starve them out, much as we might want to sometimes....

Lovely pictures Annella, in spite of the rain it looks good. So pleased the Heuchera is doing so well.

19 Apr, 2012

I love it Cinders, the nicest one I've seen. No winter damage on it at all :o))

19 Apr, 2012

I don't starve them Lincslass, I just don't feed them on the bird table otherwise they're so greed they take everything and stop the other birds getting anything as they're also bullies as well as spreading diseases. They are responsible for killing off lots of bluetits for example. I feed them peanuts, but well away from the other feeding stations, and only once a day.I'm not totally heartless.

I've been tempted to put a little sign out saying 'Posh birds only' but don't think it would work lol

19 Apr, 2012

As always Annella, your garden looks beautiful. The wood pigeons always look sad I think when waiting for food lol I just wish they'd poop on someone elses slabs as a way of thanking me for their meal:-)

19 Apr, 2012

Thanks Ba, at least the rain is washing most of the poo away at the minute :o)))

Now that has cheered me up seeing all those lovely plants thank you Annella. I too went to M..........s and bought myself three of those Pink Marble Photinias for what was supposed to be a rose garden, (the rabbits ate the rose bushes) they were such good value. Enjoyed the pictures very much.

Annella it was such a pleasure and delight to visit your beautiful garden today.

19 Apr, 2012

Thanks Olive. I'm really pleased with the Photinia, will it be rabbit proof?!!

19 Apr, 2012

Glad to hear it Waddy, I didn`t think you were, the bullies in my garden are the robin when he`s nesting and the magpies, the pigeons are too clumsy and slow....

19 Apr, 2012

I am starting to get lots of Magpies here Lincs and crows coming to the bird table

19 Apr, 2012

LUSH GREEN GARDEN. IT PLEASES THE EYE ANNELLA.
Sunny spells here at the moment. The only birds I really hate are the magpies. The ruined all the bird nests in my garden this year again.

Thank you Costas, send some sun this way please!

19 Apr, 2012

I do not think so Annella just wanted something to put in the place of the chewed up roses that was not quite as costly. lol. Think (fingers crossed) that we might be winning we have hired the fence and barricaded the gates - all good fun. The little perishers are a pain in the butt. lol. but roses were expensive and oh was not impressed at the cost when I bought them last year, so even more unimpressed now they have been eaten.

Annella we got the bigger birds moving in when they built our retail park and took up the local allotments for more housing, luckily we still get the smaller birds as well, in fact our sparrows and dunnocks have really made a comeback in the last two years, they had disappeared completely for a long while....

19 Apr, 2012

it might be wet but it sure is beautiful

19 Apr, 2012

Hello Cris, how are you? I think we all feel frustrated when we can't get outside, I get on with it when it's cold but heavy rain really puts a stop to everything xx

Hi Ann - Didn't miss your blog this time ! Everything is as good as usual. Your shrubs are so established now they really make a good background for everything else, and what a lovely mix of colours. I just love your garden. See you soon.

19 Apr, 2012

Wonderful pics Annella.
Looks like your garden is enjoying the rain, all the colours are so fresh.

19 Apr, 2012

I always enjoy seeing your garden Annella. You have some great shrubs to shape your borders. I got a pink marble last summer, new red growth appearing, lovely plants.

Love that last pic Annie....they are all lovely of course! Your acer looks great in it's new pot. When you are choosing what house to buy, don't go for one with a colour of gravel that won't match your terra pots!! lol ;))

20 Apr, 2012

Funny you should say that Karen as the Victorian properties I have looked at in this area have dark terracotta/red brickwork....perfect ;O))

20 Apr, 2012
