I took these photos before I left for work this morning, we had rain last night and the sun was shining for the first time in days. It’s lovely how a heavy shower can change the colour of the garden, today everything looked very green and I felt a lot better.

The bottom garden and slope

The steps

Osteospermums at the top of the slope

I lost four large shrubs from the top of the slope last winter but have decided to only replace the Cistus x pulverulentus ‘Sunset’ and use the other gaps for more perennials

It will be nice to get out and plant tonight now the soil is softer after the rain, I’m looking forward to making a start on my new beds

I'm glad you're feeling better Annella! Sometimes you just have to wait until inspiration strikes, and you find a renewed enthusiasm, but at the minute, your garden is looking really gorgeous!! I love it!

It's amazing what a little rain can do; strangely, the hosepipe never seems to give the same feel.

Lovely Annie. So glad you are feeling better. The photos never do justice to the Osteos do they. Mine are just coming out now, and the colour is just beautiful. They look so lovely with everything they grow beside too!

It does look so pretty, Annella....all the plants are very mature and it really fills everything out so well. I hope you've add a nice evening getting done what you wanted in your garden.

I agree that the rain has really perked things up....my plants are all in tubs at the moment (awaiting planting) but that was the first thing I noticed yesterday after our heaviest rainfall for some time....everything was looking so healthy and pretty :)

Your garden looks a lovely place for a retreat Annella. You no doubt enjoy a walk down the paths to unwind after a hard day at work...summer is a great time of year isn't it...

wow, that's a heck of a slope, Annella! When you said "slope" in your profile I was imagining something rather less than the gradiant shown in these pictures!

Agree with you; a flat plot is only two-dimensional - someone once asked on Yahoo Answers how to get rid of a slope, and I answered "why?" - *s* if I ever get a proper-sized garden I want to get a slope put IN! One can do so much more in three dimensions.

Did it tke you long to clear the builders' rubble, or didyou just plant over it? with greenery this lush, the plants must have really good footings. How well does the ground drain, given that you're on clay?

Delightful as ever.........slopes are great, we put one in ours.

Was it very hard to do, Dottydaisy? I've read bits in gardening books about taking slopes out; they say it's not just a case of chucking soil until it's level - they said one had to take the topsoil off first, then level, then put the topsoil back. Are there similar probs with puttine a slope in?

Mine was bulldozed to create two levels Fran, the original hillside was too steep to stand up on so useless as a garden.

ah, right, thanks

We just moved a load of soil to the top of the garden, we were lucky as we had a small wall to put it against, it is a very gentle slope but looks good from the top with the stepping stones....

I'll have to check out your pics!

DD's stepping stones are lovely too Fran
