Newbie gardener!

Hi everybody,
I’m completely new to this gardening malarchy, can’t spell it either! My husband told me to get a hobby since I lost my horse so looked at the garden of our house and thought it looked a mess as we have been here for 3 years and done nothing but mowed the lawn and decided to rip it all out and start again. As you do! Seemed like a good idea at the time and now I’m like a demon possessed. I don’t really know what I’m doing most of the time and just get things that look pretty and thats it. Luckily we have an amazing garden centre a few miles up the road who are brilliant and don’t bat an eye when I go in and say something really dim. I went in there the other day and asked if they had a tree with pointy leaves with bunches of red berries on it as my neighbour has one in her garden and its beautiful at the moment. Out came the books of trees and we eventually found one that was the right one. Turned out it was a rowan, durgh!!! Obvious really when you find it, especially as we live in the Highlands of Scotland!!
As you can see its going to be fun me being a gardener but I’m chuffed with what I’ve done to it so fair.

Hi and welcome.
The blackbirds, thrushes and all the bigger birds will thank you in the late summer and winter months if you plant a rowan!! A lovely tree, I can see two of them as I look out of my window now, both of which are in other peoples gardens !!
Enjoy the site !

Angie. Welcome.

You obviously have lots of enthusiasm and a great sense of humour - both of these are essentials for gardening, especially when things don't go to plan.

I'm looking forward to reading more about how your garden develops.

If you still have a huge muckheap from when you kept your horse, you will find it is worth it's weight in gold. The older the better. I am lucky enough to have first call on the muckheaps which my grandchildren are glad to get rid of. Fantastic stuff.I wish you luck with your garden!
