Seedlings when to plant out ?

This is my first year of really getting into my garden – last year was getting it tidied up and “buying” plants to make it look nice.

In mid march (probably very late) I bought a mini greenhouse and planted seeds in trays of pansies, morning glory, poppies, snapdragon, love lies bleeding, geranium, tyme, oxy eye daisy, delphinium, lobelia, lupins, more poppies (all common names as I’ve misplaced my garden diary)

They all germinated well and I’ve replanted in pots however when is it time to plant them out. I had a little dabble last year with a little propagator but must have planted out too soon as they died within 2 days of planting out.

I am dying to get them into the garden – I need to grow patience I guess – any tips would be welcome.

Hi angiedoherty - I live in the south of england and so most of my plants have gone out now with just an eye on the weather - generally if weeds in your garden are growing then the hardier plants will survive if they are tender then make sure to keep them inside a greenhouse/windowsill until a little later, but things like the pansies are hardy little things.

Make sure you harden them off before you plant them out.

I agree....harden them off first AngieD, then plant them out, keeping an eye on the weather, Your poppies, thyme, loves lies bleeding, ox eye daisies, delphinium and lupins should be fine to plant out now. I'm in the northwest, so not quite time to plant the Morning Glories out just yet:)

Sandra with reference to lupins - I bought them because they remind me of an old neighbour from when I was growing up -he had the most enormous garden and all that was in it was lupins - 1000's of them .....
