Spalding Flower Parade

This is a very brief glimpse of a wonderful day spent yesterday at the Spalding Flower Parade …

The origins of the world famous Spalding Flower Parade stretch right back to the 1920-1930s when the acreage and variety of Tulip bulbs grown throughout the area surrounding the Lincolnshire market town of Spalding became a feast of colour resembling a gigantic rainbow spanning the countryside for weeks on end …

In 1959 the first Spalding Tulip Parade took place ..

Within a few years this Parade became world famous and even more popular than the Tulip fields themselves …

What a huge amount of work and dedication has gone into that. Its marvellous, and I'm surprised it doesn't receive more publicity.
Thank you Amy for showing us that.

Thanks Toto .. I can't begin to think how the day would have been ruined if it had rained ....

Thanks Mad .. The floats are made up of millions of flower heads , the parade was made up with 47 floats and dozens of show stoppers in between , dancers , big bands etc. it was like a Nottinghill carnival ...

Thank you every one , I was so pleased that it was a lovely sunny day so that all their hard work was rewarded , it would have been awful if it had rained ... the ice cream vans were doing a roaring trade ...:o))...
I don't blame you for not wanting to get caught up in the traffic at Springfields Linclass , they closed the road off and I have never seen so many coaches descend on a place ..
Gee I thought of you as they had some lovely old Trycicles and Penny Farthings in fact all sorts of cycles through the ages in the parade ....

Thanks Ray , we were going to Baytrees which is a large garden centre not far from Spalding , it's about 50 miles from us so it's s place we don't often go to , it's huge and there's so much to see , we will go another time ...

They do still have the Parade through the streets Sandra , the roads were closed to traffic while it was going on ... .. I know nothing about last year .. :o)

Coaches were coming in from all directions Carole perhaps they will have one from your area sometime , at least it would save on parking problems .. !

These floats really come alive when in the parade with people dressed up and waving. A lot of work goes into making the floats planning starts almost before this years parade as even started !
Everyone watching looked like they enjoyed it and although it's a long route those of us who take part in it enjoyed it to.

I was one of the stilt walkers, if your in the same spot on the round-a-bout next year I'll try to give you a wave :)
