We have been to Cirencester for the last 10 days visiting our Granddaughter ..

On one of our ’ alone ’ days we wondered into a pretty little town nearby called Malmesbury , parked the car for 2 hrs. then walked up towards the Abbey in the centre ..
On one of the walls we spotted a sign … " Abbey House Gardens " with an arrow pointing the way , it didn’t take us long to follow it …
We didn’t realise until we were inside that it was the one that we had seen on T.V ..
Alan Titchmarsh said it had the WOW factor , well he was right about that ! it’s one of the lovliest gardens you could wish to see ..
I have put a few photo’s on to give you a mini preview , if you would like to see more ( and there is a lot more .. 5 acres )
200 year old Mulberry Tree .. UK’s tallest tree fern . some Sturgeon fish about 3 ft. long that looked like Sharks , they wanted a lot of fuss and put their heads out of the water for you to scratch the top of their heads ,, I could go on and on !!
Go to www.abbeyhousegardens.co.uk it is the home of Ian and Barbara Pollard ………….
The 2hrs. we put on the carpark went in a flash , we had to run back and move the car to a long stay car park .. LOL..

I've always wanted to go there Amy, it's not that far either, really.
I knew the gardens were very good and the owners have a good gimmick there, don't they !!!

I've seen it on tv a couple of times and it looks lovely, glad you had a good time there.

21 Sep, 2009

Very nice gardens. They wouldn't get much gardening done up here if that uniform was compulsary.

21 Sep, 2009

Wow... I'm glad to see the nudity does to include bare feet and hope that when the hedge trimmer comes out the codpiece goes on. I've no problem with naked folk in the garden but suspect some of our neighbours might have.

21 Sep, 2009

i love this place amy i remember seeing them two on a program i watched on nudity, and remember loving the garden to, but im not sure i could do that, i think people look better with clothes on, well most anyway heheh, glad you enjoyed your holiday, hope your family are all well amy :o)

I had a lovely time thankyou and the family are all very well , :o)

It was a fabulous place to visit , the back slopes down steeply to a river ..

I forgot to say that last November their greenhouse caught fire and they lost most of the exotic plants from their collection .. :o(

21 Sep, 2009

Bulbaholic and Moon grower, your comments made me chuckle !

San, i agree about folks looking better with their clothes on !

Sorry news about their greenhouse.

You could put your paintbrush there Leigh LOL..

You would have loved the fish Leigh , the Koi were huge , I was totally fasinated by the Sturgeons ,I had to keep going back , their heads were a bit like a Dolphins and they loved to be stroked , they felt so hard like a shell ..!

21 Sep, 2009

LOL .thanks Di ... I have a photo, it's a statue with two men fighting in the nude , I didn't dare put it on in case it offended people .. :o)

21 Sep, 2009

Oh go on Amy....in the name of "art" of course....;))

21 Sep, 2009

You've got some great photos there Amy, I enjoyed seeing them, I remember seeing the nudies on TV also. Pleased to hear you had such a good time.

21 Sep, 2009

~considering all the bumps spills and other disasters that regularly befall me in the gardenI am only too pleased to be well covered!

21 Sep, 2009

Great blog amy! Loved the sculptures (the manning fish was great!) & the gardens look great, not sure about the gardeners!! Put the statue up, we are SUPPOSED to all be adults!! LOL!

21 Sep, 2009

Great blog and fabulous photos, Amy. I remember seeing this garden and gardeners on TV too. The hooded figure has obviously decided that she's not going to get sun-tanned!

21 Sep, 2009

Thanks Amy...that was really good..the hooded statue is well spooky. Love all the different features in the gardens.

I've just added one on that you might not think was so 'careful ' Ian... LOL...

Glad you like it Madperth , you didn't have to pay to see that one .. it was at the entrance to encourage you to go in ...LOL...

21 Sep, 2009

LOL! I always get told off in art galleries etc, cos I cant just look at sculptures! I'd'a got thrown out of there!

21 Sep, 2009

great sculpture amy, like the tortoise to :o)

21 Sep, 2009

Blimey Amy, I had to turn the laptop to appreciate the photo above the lovely tortoise.

21 Sep, 2009

LOL! Good one Dawn!

21 Sep, 2009

Do lizards bite?

21 Sep, 2009

YES!

21 Sep, 2009

You didn't mention if you got naked as well for your visit? or if you at least got to keep your shoes on. Seems counter intuitive that people so free with themselves would so rigidly manicure their topiaries.

21 Sep, 2009

Ha ha Madperth, if I visited, I wouldnt be able to keep a straight face, it is an amazing garden!
He he Bulbaholic, ouch.

21 Sep, 2009

fantastic Amy, ive seen this place on tv.

21 Sep, 2009

It's too tidy tho! I agree with Orgratis, shows a certain level of schitzophrenia I think! LOL!
But I'd LOVE to see the artwork!

21 Sep, 2009

Amy

It's even better when you walk round the other side Dawn ..:o)
I know what you mean Madperth , I'm like that , can't keep your hands to yourself ..LOL..

No I didn't get Naked as well Orgratis .. I didn't realise what was going on 'till we were in .! they do have 'Clothes Optional Days ' the dates are on the website ... I,m glad I didn't go in on one of those days by mistake ..LOL...

The Tortoise is for Gee if she sees it .............

21 Sep, 2009

21 Sep, 2009

21 Sep, 2009

Amy

LOL .. do they supply you with gloves Madperth , you could do the dusting for them ... :o)

21 Sep, 2009

Sounds gorgeous! I'm just not into topiary! I dont get all this modification stuff!
Lol! That would be an idea, but then I couldnt 'feel' properly!

21 Sep, 2009

It all looks great Amy and you obviously had a good day there.

21 Sep, 2009

She looks like a nice lady but don't care for the look of him.

21 Sep, 2009

One of my personal hates is topiary Madperth... sorry if I am offending anyone. Why take something that grows one way and brutally chop it to grown in a different way. I get that way about dogs that have had weird hair cuts as well :-)

21 Sep, 2009

amy
Amy

Thanks Dawn , it was one of those days that you didn't want to end .. :o)

21 Sep, 2009

21 Sep, 2009

21 Sep, 2009

Thanks for the lovely tortoise photo, Amy, he/she is beautiful and looks quite large. Apologies to the Monk - I thought he was a Nun :)

21 Sep, 2009

When you are taking to naturists, Amy, where do you rest your eyes?

21 Sep, 2009

The gardens look beautiful Amy. I can't say that about the gardeners though :o( I agree with some of the above - we do look better dressed. I'm glad you had a nice holiday.

21 Sep, 2009

Oh dear Bulba, where would you rest yours? ..... I can see a couple of places!

Amy

LOL..Ian .. . we have a nudist beach near us at Holkam if anyone wants a practice session ... it's very funny when you see them all bobbing up and down .. :o)

21 Sep, 2009

Great Blog Amy, Ive heard about the garden but missed it on TV, looks a fascinating place I like topairy and nearly all the sculptures, again not too sure about the gardners dress code lol but takes all sorts doesnt it!

21 Sep, 2009

I just wanted to say to Moon Grower, I love the artistry of topiary but agree with the changing nature comment. I wish I had an artistic flair but sadly not. I can't even plan a border as I can't see the 'plan' in my head.

21 Sep, 2009

Night GoYs! i'm off to bed! Talk tomorrow!

Thanks Moon grower .. i'm glad it's sorted out !!

22 Sep, 2009

No prob. Bit windy for gardening in the nude today - particularly if the ash tree caught you as you walked past lol

22 Sep, 2009

ouch lol

22 Sep, 2009

Visiting Copenhagen years ago, I was amazed to find office workers taking off their suits & everything on their lunch breaks in the King's Park (the front yard of where he actually lives) in the center of town. They explained they get so little sun most of the year, they want to soak up as much as they can when it's shining! Broadened my view...

22 Sep, 2009

Pleased you enjoyd your holiday, and being with your grandaughter, i've seen that garden on tv aswell, you know what they say it takes alsorts to make the world go round, or something like that.

22 Sep, 2009

back to the naked story peeps
do they really do these gardens in the nude?
they garden naked?
dog holes?
chop hedges?
mow the lawn?
all in the buff?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

does anyone other than me find this completely cukoo?

23 Sep, 2009

LOl, Mookins!
Of course it's odd, not to mention dangerous & unsightly!!
But to each his own, I suppose!

23 Sep, 2009

oh defo wont knock anything until Ive tried it so will never knock naked gardening hehe
its just you all seemed so relaxed with it
I was sooooo shocked

23 Sep, 2009

We've probably seen a bit more than you! as a child in the 60's, & a teen in the 70's, I was regularly shocked! But you get used to most things! Personally I was disgusted that my parents WEREN'T hippies!! Lol!

23 Sep, 2009

hehehehe
think Ive seen enough now after this blog!!
thats funny hehehe

23 Sep, 2009

Mookins as someone who was a teenager in the 60s I have no hangups about folk wandering around naked. I can see a certain sense to gardening in the nude, no dirty clothes to wash just step under the shower or go for a swim.
I've never really understood the reason for wearing clothes except to keep you warm, protect you from damage or simply for fun... If I didn't think it would freak the neighbours I'd happily do some of our gardening starkers.
However, this morning we pruned a holly tree - I wouldn't want to do that in the altogether.

23 Sep, 2009

i think danger is the mane concern if your not bothering anyone but i choose not to anyway.i was braught up to wear clothes so i dont know any different

23 Sep, 2009

Ive no problem in people being naked, in fact am more than happy to be starkers myself...just not in public
Too many scars and stretch marks, would be mistakened for a road map if I stood still!!

each to their own for sure, as Nosey potter mentioned think safety first and just be careful with the loppers hehehe

23 Sep, 2009

Looks a great place to visit..........lovely garden......dont think id fancy gardening in that attire...LOL........ I have seen this on the telly before..........

Thanks Leigh , Elly deffo ..looked after the place , he is standing proudly on guard ready to repel all intruders LOL ! ..
I loved the horse sculpture pics. you sent , they are absolutly wonderful , thanks for them x

Do I take it that nobody is going to be following their example . gardening naked .. apparently 400 people turned up at there last clothless day :o)
Theres one thing for sure , if we waited for good weather it would never happen ..LOL..
I was a teenager in the sixtys and wore the long hippy skirts .. I still had to be in by 10 pm though ....

23 Sep, 2009

What's the difference between naked and nude? The first the aitch-bone ached from the hard stone bench or the splinters in the wooden one. The latter, we voyeurs ooohed!

23 Sep, 2009

well there probably naturists who do it at every opertunity.glad you liked those amy xx

23 Sep, 2009

Lovely pictures Amy and well composed shots of the two gardeners. I have seen those two before on T.V. but cannot think which gardening prog it was on.

24 Sep, 2009

That's them sure enough Amy. Did you take the picture?
I have to admit that we have tried it (many years ago!!) on our holidays abroad on very secluded beaches, I loved it, especially swimming in the lovely clear sea and no marks when sunbathing!!
We came across one place on Paros, where quite a few people went to swim au naturuelle!! Other than that, we found our own 'out of the way' places!!

It was them Shirl ,yes I took the pic. but have to admit they came out wearing swim suits the next time we saw them .
I've been topless on beaches in France Shirl but only once naked on a naturalist beach on our coast that was by accident really it was a lovely warm moonlit night everybody was like it in the sand dunes , we didn't know until afterwards that the beach was an official naturalist beach . funny thing is there use to be until recently a beach hut tucked into the pine trees that was used by the royal family makes you think doesn't it ? some hooligans broke into it and burnt it down .. it belongs to the Holkham Estate . we don't often get the weather for it here do we :o)

11 Nov, 2012

ooooo i say amy lol . i wouldnt go naked . id scare all the nieghbers of lol . i hope your well will come and see you sooner than later xxx .
