I didn't know that Amy. Thanks for the information. I'll have to get a gnome to guard over my garden.
Gnomes would make better guards than many humans I think.

I watch Bargain Hunt but am about 2 days behind everyone else as I record it and watch when nothing else is on during the evenings! I'll listen out for GNOME - never heard that before.

Thats interesting Catfinch , he will guard you as well , perhaps that was the reason that he was left with you and didn,t get sold :o)

Yep...I am sure you are right Amy..... :-) I think I need him to sit by my side all the time to remind me to keep on working...I find my self slacking off a bit too often and being on the internet too much...lol. Sorting files now....urgh...that is not fun..but have only one drawer left to go...YES! Keeping enough boxes around seems to be my biggest problem....I wonder if my gnome would be of much help guarding boxes...they seem to keep on dissapearing....

LOL
I agree . This GOY does take up more then it,s fair share of our time Catfinch.

It,s large envelopes that keep disappearing here for our invoices , I,m trying to get started on the end of year accounts which is the beginning of April . I,ve made a start if I don,t keep on with it it will be here before I know it .

I would put your boxes in a pile and then sit your gnome on the top . It might stop them moving ... LOL ..

You have had so much to do you are entitled to a little slacking , go and have a coffee and gaze at that wonderful view .... xx

My gnome is in the entry way...I will have him sit at the bottom of the stairs....so no boxes go out the door that are not filled up...lol..

I was the one who coined the term
GNOME
Guarding Naturally Over Mother Earth
in the late 1970s
refer to my background or google gnomologist

Sorry folks, but that is one of those terms that were made up to fit an existing word.

Word Origin & History

gnome

"dwarf-like earth-dwelling spirit," 1712, from Fr. gnome, from L. gnomus, used 16c. in a treatise by Paracelsus, who gave the name pigmaei or gnomi to elemental earth beings, possibly from Gk. *genomos "earth-dweller." A less-likely suggestion is that Paracelsus based it on the homonym that means "intelligence" (preserved in gnomic). Popular in children's literature 19c. as a name for red-capped Ger. and Swiss folklore dwarfs. Garden figurines first imported to England late 1860s from Germany.
