First let me apologize for the photo’s I didn’t know my friend was watching and making a record of my illegal actions ,she only sent them to me much later on a very funny ’ WANTED’ poster …
We were on holiday in France last year when we came across a very pretty rose growing on a Round-About .
I decided to risk being run-over ,shot or taking in cuff-links to the nearest jail .
These are the photos my friend sent me ..

What is that in my left hand ?

I took a couple of cuttings but then didn’t know what to do with them so decided to plant them in some soil in a coffee mug I didn’t know if they would survive until we reached home .
I transplanted them into pots when we came home ,they were quite difficult to get out as the soil had gone as hard as concrete .

I’m thrilled to be able to show you the results so far ,I’m afraid one didn’t survive but the other is looking very promising .

NEW LEAVES

NEW ROOT

I know its naughty to take cuttings without asking ,please don’t tell me off ! :o(

I'm glad you think it funny Sandra I couldn't believe it when I received the 'Wanted ' poster with my photos all over it , Its a wonder I was allowed to leave France , i wouldn't have been any help to Madam de Farge I'm useless at knitting , maybe they would put me to work taking rose cuttings instead LOL xx

It's the last photo that made me laugh Amy..trying to look so nonchalant ,but looking guilty as hell ! Lol..That would be a great job, wouldn't it? with perks :o) xx

27 Feb, 2015

LOL, I also had a chuckle as you are looking guilty Amy, I'm pleased the cutting is doing well for you though.....

27 Feb, 2015

Caught in the act!.....
beautiful rose though, the cutting looks healthy, fingers crosses....

If it Wasnt You Amy it must have been your Phantom Double who looks very familiar lol If ever you decide to come to our neck of the woods Im afraid I will have warn our local Horticultural Society to be on the lookout LOL but having seen the results of your crime I might be tempted to join you;0))

Well done Amy....Guerilla Gardening works both ways don't you know! :)) Nice job!

27 Feb, 2015

I love the guilty expression! I guess we've all been there, and at least your cuttings worked :))

27 Feb, 2015

You look so guilty, Amy, it's a wonder you weren't suspected of robbing a bank! I don't think you did anything wrong - you were only preserving the plant in case it was succombed to disease or was run over by a wayward French driver! When it's fully grown I'm sure you intend to return a little cutting on one of your trips :)

Thanks for your comments I'm glad I gave you all a giggle , I'm one of those people who couldn't get away with doing anything wrong I look guilty at the thought of it ! Carole I'll let you join me on my next mini crime spree if you can be as inconspicuous and blend in like me :o) you hit the nail on the head Gill I could see that crazy French driver heading straight for that round-about and will naturally return a cutting on next trip. Snoopdog please don't send John darn I thought you was a friend :o(

Lol who could resist that rose though its stunning, I'd just call it a bit of pruning ;-)

27 Feb, 2015

lol ... :D I won't tell you off, if you don't tell me off when I do it ! :o)))

I learnt the art of steeling cuttings from my grandmother, who was as mad about plants as I am ...
When we used to take her to the botanical gardens, my father would tell us ... "If you two get caught steeling cuttings, I'll be saying I don't know you !" :D

I'm pleased one of your cuttings has caught :)

27 Feb, 2015

Ha, ha ha! Amy you naughty girl! I have to agree with others here, you do look guilty! Don't feel too bad, I'm sure most GoY members are just as guilty of doing the same...me included.
Well done on getting the cuttings to take.

I did laugh at this Amy ! I have done this before when walking round a garden center, but only for the occasional perrenial ! I felt so guilty too ! Tell me...did you carry some secateurs in your bag then ! Hahaa! I can't believe it survived , especially the journey back home ! Well done !

28 Feb, 2015

Oh Amy, how I smiled at this blog! A little piece of France for your garden ... :o)

28 Feb, 2015

What we remember most about my grandmother is that she had a total disregard for plants growing in other peoples gardens, public or private. She considered it her right to pinch cuttings. She continued to exercise her right even when she was wheelchair bound - in fact it was easier for her to secrete the cuttings when she had a rug over her lap. Not that I am recommending this course of action!!

I can feel your joy when that cutting took. It is only us true gardeners that can appreciate that delight, others just dont get it.

No not secateurs Rose ,scissors ! I always have a pair of scissors in the side pocket of the car you've no idea how often they come in handy Lol yes Shirley my own little piece if France One day I might even be able to show you a bloom :o) .. Oh my goodness Sue, now I'm very worried a real live person from France has caught up with me you won't report me will you ? I laughed at your grandmothers antics she sounds to have been quite a character Lol ...

That's a good word for it Janey ' rescued ' that's exactly what I did, thank you, it might well have died and disappeared without trace forever if I hadn't rescued a tiny part of it :o)) x

That is a pretty rose Amy. I am glad it survived your trip home. Congratulation. We gardeners have to unite in keeping all the plant spieces alive. Do you know the name of this rose?

1 Mar, 2015

Ooh Amy......!! glad your ill gotten gains are thriving, you do look so guilty though. My OH disowns me when I try and 'pinch' a cutting or two. I shall show him this blog, to let him know it's the done thing!!!

And who said crime doesn't pay? You not only pinched the cutting, but went 'tooled up'! They'd have thrown the book at you Amy!:-)
I wonder when you'll get a flower? How exciting:-)

To true Klahanie we gardeners are a breed apart and must stick together and no I'm sorry i've no idea as to the name of the rose maybe we can have a guessing game when it eventually blooms , you do that Val tell him its alright so long as he looks the other way and doesn't see !!! Oh BA I'm glad I'm safely back on this side of the water it will be interesting to see how long it takes to bloom I'll deff. put a photo on when it does :o)

Practically all my life I've "pinched" cutting of plants I've liked! I've had some that lasted for years afterwards! Probably started when I used to collect seeds from Pansies I liked in public displays when a boy in London. At that time I didn't realise they wouldn't come true from seed!

One of my most successful was/is a Spider plant I dug up from a roundabout some 7-8 years ago or longer. I only dug it up because I knew that within a day or two the council gardeners would come around to dig up the summer bedding to prepare the way for the autumn/spring bedding. Which they did! As it is all taken away & composted I never felt I'd ''Pinched'', in fact I saved it from the composter! It's still alive today & flourishing in the kitchen! I have several more plants I've propagated from it & several I've given away.

I'm sure we've all done it at some time in our lives Balcony we can't help ourselves , I don't see it as 'pinching ' more a case of saving and propagating more plants which surely must be a good thing I have some seeds also picked from a town center display in France we will see if they grow when the time comes ... if you hadn't saved that Spider plant it wouldn't be the lovely plant it is today ,it would have been dead and gone forever ......

It came off in my hand Messeur...honestly! Well done on getting your cutting established. I hope it flowers well for you in a few years time.

We have done it several times in France.......the ten ft Acacia tree growing at the bottom of the garden, was taken out of the rented propertys drive three years ago!! as a 4 ins sapling along with a few more (as back up)...
I am pleased it is growing away nicely for you, a super memory.....
We even purchased some compost one year and planted the cuttings in plastic cups!!.....

Angela you're worse than me at least I haven't gone as far as taking compost & cups with me ,now there's a thought you're a bad influence Lol ... do you know this rose cutting is now planted in the garden its approx 1ft high with buds on it I love it when something pinched takes ! I have another rose taken the year before a white one the problem is not knowing what their names are , Gosh your Acacia has done well in 3 years .. well done !.... its Scotland this year for us I'm afraid due to illness we haven't been able to go ahead with any plans we shall miss our sunny fix :o(

I envy you already Angela where in France will you go ? Your poor knees its hard isn't it , why is every thing always at ground level Lol... I feel as if I have a hoe permanently attached to my body sometimes ! Tony had a Doctors appointment this morning he verified that the infection he was so ill with from the prostrate biopsy has returned he is back on tablets ,the person he needs to see at the hospital is away until July ,isn't that dreadful ? we go on holiday on the 17th June ...how can Cameron promise 24x7 days a week care when there's nobody to see you now ! sorry moan over !!

2 Jun, 2015

OH dear I am sorry to hear that Any.......and it is shocking that Tony is going to have to wait so long, will he be OK to go on holiday? I do hope so.
We are going to a small village called St Sorlin de Conac in the SW region, we are sharing a villa with our daughter and family, also our granddaughter and her boyfriend, and friends, our nearest beach is St George's de Didonne....the villa is in the countryside, so a complete change from our usual holidays in France!

You will have a fabulous time in France your family will be there and good french food , sunshine what more could you want ? We haven't spent time in that area you will have to let us know your thoughts afterwards .. Don't do to much hiking with your knee ,let the family wait on you :o))
