A good friend and colleague of my husband called round this evening to explain why we couldn,t get him on his mobile ,phone a couple of weeks ago .

He was on business in Barcelona and was at the airport going down the steps when he felt hot liquid pouring down his back , he immediately put down his laptop ,suit case etc. to see what had happened ..
The two evil people who had poured the hot liquid down him dived in and grabbed his belongings leaving him stranded without a mobile phone or any of his companys property, laptop etc.
He said the worse thing was not having his mobile , he couldn,t ring anyone and like most of us didn,t remember the numbers because they are all programmed in.
It took ages to sort it all out at the police station , it has made him so angry and now dosn,t trust people

So be warned if you are travelling .. somebody might be watching you !

OMG Poor Guy This is Awful News:/Thanx for the Warning & Send myThoughts on to Your Husbands friend XXX

17 Dec, 2008

That is most disgusting and to happen in a public place such as an airport. I hope they catch this SCUM! and maybe it was recorded by video cam that would assist in the apprehension of the perpetrators. I bet this is not the first time this situation has happened. Goes on daily I bet.

I heard of another scummy scam. A home made sign set up that looks official enough stating: There has been a lot of pick pocketing in this area. Is your wallet and valuables safe? Most of us will now check our wallets with a simple grasp of the pocket or actually pull the wallet out and put it back the criminal or perp would then witness this and go in for the loot.

I hope he was not scalded and had a change of clothing. This can happen anywhere. Crime is global. There are still a lot of great people out there and I do believe they out number the bad.

What an awful experience for your husband's good friend.

Please send my best wishes to him, and tell him there are some good people left in the world. I can understand how he would lose confidence over something like this. It can take a long while to recover.

My thoughts and sympathy. TTxxx

Dreadful Amy....Barcelona airport is notorious for it's gangs of thieves and muggers.....it is a business to them! We know how often this type of thing has happened and this time of year is one of the worst. Never go looking like a tourist either wearing a belly or bum bag as they will bump into you and slit the bag from the bottom taking everything inside. We had this happen to friends there. It is common place in Europe...never stop at a motorway cafe and leave your car out of sight either...they work and prey on innocent people there too....always watching and using mobiles to contact each other. I have a friend who was robbed in the cafe at Barcelona airport....the thieves had set up this scenario where a boy ran past with a girl following shouting for help as he'd robbed her...my friend and a few others set off to follow and the theives pounced taking all bags with them.

I think this is common at many international airports - and if apprehended, the thieves are very rarely of the ethnicity of the country in which they are operating. It was always a problem when I worked at Heathrow and no matter how many warnings were made travellers were so careless with their belongings - something to do with the stress of travelling I think. Doesn't make the upset any easier to bear though!

Thank you for your comments I will certainly pass them on to richard .He also told us about another colleague who had a gun pointed at his head in a car when he stopped at the traffic lights ..

No Pink Floyd he wasn,t scalded but it was hot enough to make him instantly put everything down .

Janey it sounds awful from your discription , I,ve never stopped there i,ve only been through on a coach , Richard has now made all sorts of strange pockets in his clothing as he does travel a lot .
He also felt the need to spend money on changing his locks at home because of all the private things that were in his cases , they may have had someone operating over here .

What a horrible experience! Your friend is smart to get his locks changed, it is unfortunate that people have to go through this when they are just trying to do their job. I wonder if the increase in crime is a manifestation of the bad economy.
Many of my friends have always teased me because I ALWAYS lock my doors. They are not laughing now after one had a man rob her at a stop light by just opening the car door and getting in her car!

So sorry to here about your husbands freind.

Smart thing to lock your vehicle doors. I lock my doors at home while I'm in the garden. My boys think I'm over cautious and paranoid. If that is what they want to think god help them when and if it happens to them in their own place or auto.
I give them heck for leaving the outer doors unlocked any time of day. When growing up with my folks our outer doors where not locked until the last one of my folks went to bed. That was in the 50ties, 60ties, and early 70ties.
