FAIRIES AT THE BOTTOM OF MY GARDEN

It had been brought to our attention by way of a formal notice from the fairy council that we have a serious lack of fairy housing accommodation ( none ) and that unless we remedy the situation they would no longer tend the garden in our absence .

Horrified by the thought of a neglected garden we quickly drew up plans which were thankfully passed by the department of housing for fairies committee .

Hubby set to work in his shed with hammer and nails . no time for breakfast, dinner or tea until he emerged triumphant looking hungry, tired and with a builders bum !

We have an old dead oak tree on the border of our property we had left in situ to grow roses and clematis up the trunk .

We decided it it was the perfect place for the new Des Res .what do you think ?

What we hadn’t noticed was that there was a ready made fairy garden higher up complete with mushrooms and what looks suspiciously like a geum plant !

It wasn’t long before when we noticed activity from that area ,yes the first occupents had moved in .

It’s nice to know we have done our bit for the fairies even if they did force our hand ..

Should I start charging rent ?

Awesome blog Amy, love it. It's a lovely well built home with great garden and views :-) so cute.

Is the Fly Agaric mushroom growing in your garden? I'd love to get some going in my woodland.

did they get their assistance with their deposit from the government I wonder, as first time buyers they should have. lol it looks amazing, love the new lodgings along with the new occupants, it looks great.

16 Oct, 2013

The rent I'd charge is a promise to magic all the slugs from your garden.....and keep them away. :0))

Thanks everyone I'm pleased you have enjoyed meeting our new residents , we have a problem !
The fairies will not be a party to any rent money or a deposit for a mortgage ( they would rather leave silly things like that to us ! ) we have been in negotiations for several hours with the head of the clan , a contract is being drawn up as we speak they are more than happy to be going your way Pamg they will collect slugs which they will take over to Fustyweed for Jiggy's Yickens in return for fresh eggs , if you can't remember or haven't heard of Fustyweed a village not far from here Google Fustyweed Norfolk and look at just pleasantly floundering around to find out about the occupants living there .. we have other duties lined up such as collecting the cobnuts before the squirrels pinch them ...
I'm glad you reminded me about the teeth Scottish thats something else to be discussed at the next meeting !
Dawn the Fly Agaric photo was taken on a walk in a wood on sunday they were growing under silver birch trees :o)

Lol brilliant blog Amy love it, it really does look magical :-)

lovely, Amy! but given that the accommodation is in return for their tending the garden, charing rent might be a bit tricky - they might present you will another bill in return!

do we have a Fairy Garden section in GoYpedia?? if not, could we have one? sure there'd be lots of nominations!

You are kind Sue I have a little grouping of garden Fairies I'm not sure you could call it a glen but you've given me an idea :o) , Thanks Kathy I'm glad you like it ,

Fran we're not going to charge them rent, instead in return for accommodation they are going to collect slugs they will take them over to the chickens in a local village called Fustyweed in exchange for eggs , see my note above if you haven't heard of a Norfolk village called Fustyweed Google it ,it makes interesting reading :o)

17 Oct, 2013

slugs for accommodation sounds a very fair deal!

Not heard of it, will ask Mr Google

That's brilliant Klahanie , we should do all we can to encourage the fairies into our gardens they are becoming an endangered species ;o))

17 Oct, 2013

:-) I agree.

17 Oct, 2013

That's something I can think of for my new garden ... as it backs on to the river (past the stretch of open ground), probably should provide something for water fairies too, if there is such a thing?

17 Oct, 2013

Amy

I would love a river backing onto my garden , there are river faires Fran , we visited a garden recently where hidden in the shrubs was a fairy ferry you could just see the little boat emerging from the other side of the narrow stream there was a notice by a little entrance to the landing stage as to the charges also instructions about their behaviour on the ferry ,if they didn't behave they were warned they would be thrown off !

18 Oct, 2013

Enjoyed reading about the fairies. We have a Green Man. Do you think he would get on with them?

18 Oct, 2013

This is adorable Amy - I like fairies and would welcome yours in my garden any time!

You could be right TT :o) I'm sure the fairies would make the Green man very welcome Eirlys as he is nature lover to , I will tell them Chris I'm not sure their little wings are strong enough for that distance ! thats good news Pamg my heuchera should be safe from now on then , I'll have a word with him Fran ... Thanks Sandra I'm thrilled with it :o))

Ah Jewells what a lovely idea an Elf and fairy party dancing all night long under the twinkling stars :o))

18 Oct, 2013

Love your fairy house. I'm sure the fairies will be very happy residing there!

19 Oct, 2013

I've looked at some Green Man plaques etc, but not found anything I feel drawn to - some are really tacky (as happens to all traditional icons, be they pagan or other)

I've got a little drageo, so I'd need to make a cave for her - would she get on iwth fairies, do you think?? or they with her?

19 Oct, 2013

amy
Amy

Fran do you mean a little doggy Drageo if so I'm sure the fairies would love a pet but if it's a dragon you may have to ask them how they feel about sharing with what could possably be a potential fire hazard !!

20 Oct, 2013

sorry for typo! dragon. little red one, about 6-8", holding a pearl

But I feel that she's a protector, a guardian of the garden

20 Oct, 2013

amy
Amy

She will fit in perfectly Fran the fairies need as much protection as possible they are very vunerable to nasty outside beasties also they will enjoy helping to keep the pearl safe from evil hands ....

21 Oct, 2013

She'll guard them!

I still haven't found a name for the dragon yet. But a red dragon is usually Welsh, and she'll be moving a lot closer to Wales, maybe a name will come

21 Oct, 2013

Have a look on the internet Fran, chinese dragons and the pearl of wisdom....fascinating!

21 Oct, 2013

I was looking at Welsh sites, maybe I should look at Chinese - ...the "pearl" bit is theirs, after all

lol maybe we could runa "name that dragon" contest?!

21 Oct, 2013

Oh I love it Amy! It is perfect for them, I want to see inside when the doors are open, but I know they are very secretive creatures who will only trust you Amy......what is it like in the evening, is it lit up? I can just picture them snail riding up and down your garden......:))

21 Oct, 2013

great thought, Janey! atmopspheric evening pics ...

22 Oct, 2013

Amy

I'm glad you approve Janey , the door will open but I haven't been allowed to see inside yet they are still sorting their treasures out ! There isn't any human lighting Janey the fairies have called upon the services of their friends the glow worms who are happy to light up the tree at night in return for protection from predators while they sleep during the daytime ,it's lovely the way they look out for each other .
This is a fact and true we came home sunday evening to find a carrier bag full of walnuts on our doorstep we still don't know where they came from ... Fairies , who knows ?
We shall have to put our thinking caps on to name your Dragon Fran ! :o)

22 Oct, 2013

That sounds a lovely thank-you from them, a bag of walnuts! and the glow-worms sound lovely - will have to see if I can get any - most solar-powered "decortions" look a bit clunky to me. would love to see any pics you might have, now or later!

I looked at Chinese words, but none caught my fancy - all single-syllables, not very poetic. Found a few Welsh ones which are a bit too flowing! not sure I could pronounce them properly, and wouldn't like to get it wrong - people up there would be bound to spot it!

So far I'm toying with:
Protector, defender - Amddiffynnydd
Shield - Tarian
Lady -Arglwyddes
Mistress - Athrawes

trying to think round "garden defender" or "Queen of the garden" - Welsh for Queen seems to be Queen! would like a name that repesents somehting and is lovely in its own right.

lol but it's only a flippin' ornament I bought at a charity shop!!

22 Oct, 2013

Absolutely brilliant!

22 Oct, 2013

just took another tiptoe through the photos, enchanted all over again. please keep up the "story"!

Thanks Helenium :o)) Fran the Celtic god Morrigan is the goddess of War ,Revenge ,Night,Magic and Prophecy , also Queen of Fairies and Witches , I liked the bit about the Fairies but not too sure about the rest ...

23 Oct, 2013

*s* I'm pagan, which isn't the same as "witch"; not sure about revenge or war, my dragon is peacful till roused, then a fierce defender, but only as much as is necessary to maintain the peace! lol try finding a single word for all that!!

23 Oct, 2013

amy
Amy

Sounds like the word should me ' Mother ' LOL ....

24 Oct, 2013

lol never thought of that! will check it out immedaitely, ta!!

ten seconds later - aw, that's "mam", not very etherial!

Back to the drawing board !

24 Oct, 2013

lol, well, it's got along witbout a name so far - or at least, without me kwowing what its name is ... sorry, didn't mean to divert main thread!

24 Oct, 2013

What a wonderful idea! I have stream sprites...and a little digging fairy...she has her own little spade and lives in the garden beside the deck. Next season I'll be looking into pond, rock and tree for the little people. I have a picture on my facebook posted by an unknown(to me) who had a large tree in front of his house, which had died. the person didn't want to remove it so he called in a chainsaw sculptor and had it made into a large dragon! I think I mentioned the two ironwood stumps that are in the lawn, from which I wanted to sculpt rabbits. The wood is so hard that it even resists a chainsaw. Not your ideal for carving. Alas. There are several places on our hill where there are trees that could be made into greenmen or sprites. There is also a large hollow tree which would lend itself to a fairy condo... ;-) Love this blog.

27 Oct, 2013

I was interested enough to search Google Images "tree sculpture" but that brought up a lot of bonsai-type items, but "dead tree sculpting" brought up some amazing artwork.

I'm glad you liked the blog Lori , what a shame your trees were too hard to carve into the rabbit sculptures they would have made interesting works of art , we have a lot of tree sculptures in our forest walks there are also competitions in county shows to see how quickly the chainsaw men can sculp a figure ,I suspect you have them out there as well .. I shall look forward to seeing any finished results especially fairy trees :o))
Next time I'm in a forest where they have some dead tree sculptures I will take photos Fran ! BTW I quite liked the first name you gave your little red dragon ' Drago' it doesn't have to have a meaning does it ?

27 Oct, 2013

I haven't given up...just need to get the chain sharpened! lol....
