A SURPRISE GARDEN .... PART 2

After leaving ’ The Garden of Surprises ’ we set off to explore the ’ Contemporary Sculpture Garden ’ it was apparently reclaimed from Capability Brown’s lost lower gardens in 1994 and has aquired a permanent collection of over 20 sculptures ..
I’m afraid that with no arrows to guide us on our way we wandered aimlessly taking great pleasure in spotting each sculpture as we found it . You are supplied with a map but as we didn’t know where we were anyway it didn’t make much sense unless you came across something you recognised ,we also had a list of the sculptures some of which were named as untitled some of them we couldn’t recognise as being on the list either .
I’m sure we must have missed a few ,we would very much like to go back with more time to spend in this fascinating place , who knows we might even get as far as the house next time !

Bunny in the making

The ice house
And last but not least Burghley House complete with Ha Ha wall

I’m afraid these photos are not the best I should have reset my camera for sunshine !!!

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them , that football mad Rabbit is as tall as my OH Lori I have a photo of him standing beside it ..Thanks Slad and Kidsgran I'm not sure that we would glean many ideas for our regular garden from here :o))

Well there`s statues aplenty to choose from Amy but as you say a bit big for the average garden, however, they were fascinating. Mind you I wouldn`t fancy being stuffed into a wall.lol.

I'm pleased you found the Stickmen in the trees, its daft but but I always have to go and see them and say hello, sort of a tradition lol, my dad nearly drowned in that lake, he was billeted in the park during the war and the soldiers used to swim in the lake, dad got cramp and had to be rescued, it put him off swimming for the rest of his life....
I don't think anybody sticks to the map Amy, especially if you are armed with a camera, one has to veer off to get the best pics at different angles, some of the sculptures have been there from the start and others get added or taken away as different artists create new ones, some of these in your photo,s I don't recognize so they are new this year......
Lovely blogs Amy.........

That was a strange idea wasn't it Stroller I very nearly missed it LOL ..
Lincs your poor dad I know how he must have felt as I get a lot of cramp even now in bed ,I had to take my boots off to cross a river once and cramped up it was agony I hardly made it to the other side ..also I was pushed in the deep end of a swimming pool when I was young I've never liked the water since . We almost didn't get any photos of the balancing people in the trees it was all fenced off and there were men working which meant I had to creep through some shrubs to get a photo without them seeing me ! there was a Teddy bears picnic over the other side of the wall where the man was stuffed in the wall as Stroller put it LOL ..

22 Apr, 2013

Yes the Teddies are cute and they have been there a very long time, I think they were carved from trees off the estate, whatever work the men are doing is taking a long time as they were working in that area last year as well....

Such an amazing place Amy....I love the tree men, and the ladies faces...quite incredible, though I wouldn't fancy being there when it's dusk, when they all might start moving about....:(((

Ha Ha Janey that would be creepy , I'm not even a fan of old dolls I think they are creepy especially since watching that film Chucky he was pure evil :o(

23 Apr, 2013

Ooh yes!! Wouldn't this place be great for a scary film though??

23 Apr, 2013

Quite a long time since I was there.... posing for that first sculpture:-)))

24 Apr, 2013

On a more truthful note, I've never visited there, so enjoyed seeing these amazing sculptures very much. Tell Stroller if she threatens to meet up with me again ...I'll stuff her in the wall myself lol. Twice now she's threatened it and each time the weather has turned so wintry that it was impossible. The last time she caused over a foot of snow! :-)))))

Oh my goodness it sounds like fistycuffs at dawn Bg , Stroller can you hear me Bg is threatening to stuff you in the wall if you can't control the weather LOL :o))

24 Apr, 2013

I love the park but have never ventured in there after dark, lol, as to the house I have friends who work there and I know that I could not do that, much as I love to visit it I would be terrified if I was in one of those rooms on my own, too many eyes and presences following one around.....

Do your friends who work there speak of ghosts Lincs , there's usually some haunting tales going about these old buildings !

25 Apr, 2013

Now come on Ba, tell the truth you`d crawled in there just because you lost the " Rear of the year competition", so you thought you would give em the thumbs up or something like that.lol.

LOL ... good idea Bg ..

Never heard of any ghosts at Burghley Amy but we have the tale of a ghostly horseman riding the lane near Wothorpe Ruins, thats the house that was pulled down to build the stable block at Burghley and ghostly visions years back wandering the meadow near the old priory, turns out it was a person walking his dog carrying a torch, hope I never find out the truth I just know that some places make me uneasy and feel cold even on the hottest day, lol and old paintings with eyes that follow you scare me silly.....

It's better that we don't know some things Lincs it might be to scary . We have a wall mask that has eyes that follow you around , I like it but the grandchildren didn't use to !
