Blickling Hall ,a beautiful old Jacobean mansion was open last weekend to allow visitors into the house and kitchens to see the Christmas decorations , I though you might like a glimpse of down stairs in the kitchens …

Follow me ..

Is that a GHOST ?

here we are in the kitchens

I think this pair have just seen the ghost !

Father Christmas is on his way

Be good or he might not stop at your house …….

A note of interest ,
The ghost of Anne Boleyn
One of the county’s most magnificent buildings is said to be haunted by the ghost of Anne Boleyn, who was executed in 1536. An apparition is said to appear at Blickling Hall on the anniversary of her death.

Blickling Hall, near Aylsham in north Norfolk, is said to be haunted by the ghost of Anne Boleyn.

The apparition is said to appear there every year on the anniversary of her execution.

Anne, who was the second wife of King Henry VIII, was beheaded on 19 May 1536 just days before her husband married Jane Seymour.

Her ghost is said to draw up to the door of the stately home in a carriage pulled by headless horses and driven by a headless coachman.

I hope you enjoyed a visit downstairs at Blickling Hall

Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the visit . Paul it may interest you to know that according to a newspaper artical this morning that big tree and all the others that lined the drive up to the house are free to anyone who would like too collect them they don't need them now that the house has closed for Christmas .. we felt rather posh going up/down those stairs TT I wished I had a ball gown on ! We love it SBgirl also Felbrigg Hall with it's walled garden , The mangle did look wondeful Chris ,mangles always remind my hubby of a time on his father farm when he was a little boy when he turned the handle with the back of his fathers shirt trapped in it LOL Thank you for your good wishes , A merry christmas to you all x

Lovely old house, Amy. Who wouldn´t know a sad story of Ann Boleyn.
By the way, we have several houses in a a close village which have had ghosts. To me the most interesting was the story of a young family which bought an older house and reconstructed it. One night their daughter screamed as she saw black lady with hat limping in her sleeping room. She refused to sleep in that room. Then they got a visit of colleagues from the USA. So where to accomodate Americans? In the daughter´s sleping room. Lot of fun, vine, good food, music and Good night. In the night they all heard a terrible scream. It was American guest, who was woken as somebody´s cold hand was pulling him. He confirmed he saw a black lady with big hat. The house is for sale now. Nobody living there. But we found, that the last owner before young family was an old lady, who used to walk in black dress to the church. She was knocked by the car. Horrible.

I love all these ghostly stories, especially on a cold winters night in front of the fire , I'm willing to go back to the hall in May if you all promise to meet me there ! wouldn't that be a perfect venue for a GOY Christmas dinner Carole , I'm looking forward to the Christmas edition of Downton Abbey Scottish ,it always feels as though something special is missing when the series has finished ... I'm not telling Rose LOL ...
Ooo Kat that's scary ,
I'm not surprised the house is for sale ,nobody would buy it after hearing that tale ... I've lived in a couple of houses where strange things happened one friendly one not so friendly ....

We clicked at the same time Dawn , I wonder why we love to scare ourselves silly with ghost stories ?? strange !

did you see that ghost story recently on tv amy? that was set in an old house, it was on sunday evenings ~ sccaaaarry!

19 Dec, 2012

Interesting. I always think the 'downstairs' rooms have more character than the 'upstairs' ones ... but I don't suppose it was really like that.
I hope you didn't get any nightmares thinking about the ghost !

Yes Sticki , The ghost of Chrickley Hall , it made the hairs stand up on my arms a few times :o) You are right about that Hywel ,the 'upstairs ' is too prim and proper it dosen't look lived in .. No I didn't have nightmares but I wouldn't like to be on my own at night in a place like that !

Not to be outdone - Catherine of Aragon lived in a hunting lodge just outside Bracknell while waiting for her divorce. She was Henry VIII's first wife.

Thanks for that Andrew , another interesting fact :o))

19 Dec, 2012

I can never understand why these people who claim to be 'mediums' , and take money from people for private sceances, pass away, and are never 'seen' or heard from again.

I have known two of them.

Have you really Diane , I've never had any contact with one , the other thing I don't understand is if ghosts die in traumatic conditions why aren't our roads littered with ghosts after all the hundreds of accidents that take place there ? why are there not so many ' new ' ghosts they are usually old ones ..........

20 Dec, 2012

been to Felbrigg too :o)

20 Dec, 2012

So what aren't you telling me, Amy! lol. Do you know something I don't! Hubby and I love Downton Abbey and I'm pleased its coming back on again next year. Have you watched "The last tango in Halifax"? We both enjoyed that as well. Its so nice to see programmes without violence and bad language!

20 Dec, 2012

I like the garden better at Felbrigg SB. It's interesting to see what people are growing on there allotment plots in the walled garden .

Rose I wouldn't want to spoil your pleasure if one day you go to the hall yourself it's much nicer if you don't know what ghoulish creatures are waiting round the corner LOL !! I love Downton Abbey ...but missed most of " The last Tango in Halifax " I've only seen two of them I watched the one last night and was determined to look out for more to come in the future ...

Thank you Carol ,it's nice to see you I hope you are keeping well have a wonderful Christmas with your family also Jack & Tilly a Happy New year to You x

Oh I did enjoy that Amy...I love looking at old houses and their interiors. The kitchens are really interesting aren't they when you see all the old implements and then remember you had a few in your own home growing up...lol! Especially that mangle, the range looked a nightmare to blacklead. All the equipment looks attractive with Christmas decorations, but it must have been such hard work, working down there, you would feel secure though working for a large aristocratic family. Imagine coming face to face with Anne Boleyn, especially if she walked the corridors headless.....then it would be face to neck....lol!
A couple of weeks ago on Last Tango in Halifax, Amy, they were locked in a stately home after spending the afternoon there, they had to stay the night in one of the old large bedrooms, and there was quite a bit of ghostly
activity going on! Scary!

We had a lot of ghostly activity at our old home, mind you my Dads family were what they used to call 'fey', so
I think it's passed down through me and Katherine....:((

Hi Amy Im looking forward to Christmas at Downton too, I think I shouuld have been born in that Era even if I was just a kiichen Maid, I think it would have been lots of fun with all the carrying on lol

21 Dec, 2012

I remember tying my grannies apron strings to her mangle, when i was about 8-9. Her kitchen was so narrow, I did it while she was at the sink! Love Downton Abbey, glad its back at Christmas, and the other two programs mentioned. Last Tango in Halifax is back next year. Also looking forward to Call the midwife on Christmas day, will have to record both programs because we are my daughters, having a "sleep over" if teenagers can do it, so can Grannies and Grandads. Will have to visit Blickling when we're next down that way. Good idea Carole GOY Christmas dinner there. :o)

I thought you would like that Janey , I haven't been remembering to watch 'Last Tango in Halifax ' I watched one after you told me about it and enjoyed it then forgot all about it until I saw it advertised last week I watched that one so I've missed a lot I will have to record the lot next time round ... you will have to tell us some of your ghostly stories to keep us entertained through the winter Janey I love to hear them x Carole it would be fun if we all worked together in a place like Downton Abbey we would need a good strict person in charge to keep us in our places LOL .... Gralew you were as mischievous as my OH :o)) sounds as though all our recording machines are going to be working over time this Christmas with us all recording the same programs , Have fun at your 'sleep over ' No crumbs in the bed / midnight feasts or pillow fights Lol ....
